The Ladykillers (2004) - A movie about an band an bad guys coming together to rob an casino and staying at an old lady's house to get to the casino.

I really enjoyed this movie and it was nice to see Tom Hanks and doing his thing. the jokes were good and it has an good replay value.

verdict - 9/10

I've got two. A rental and a theater outing.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - (5/10)
Why did they make this? The CGI chipmunks stuck out horribly. It would have been better with actual hand drawn animation. And Jason Lee needs to quit doing his semi-serious acting rolls. He is best when doing stuff for Kevin Smith.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - (7/10)
It was OK, but not as good as I expected. It pails compared to The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I couldn't help but feel that it was a mixture of Shrek (cute, yet chivalrous animal swordsmen) and Harry Potter (If I quit being a git a long time ago none of this would have happened all disguised to make us feel like we were watching a Lord of the Rings style movie. The bonus to all of this is that I know (because I have read the books) future films will not contain the worst character. I think they are trying to hard to make it appealing to kids when it would be better if it had the grittier feel of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Grizzly Man

OK, so I went into this one knowing about the Grizzly Man - well, knowing that he lived with the bears then they ate him.

I too at first thought it was a bit of a joke but my friend reassured me it wasn't. She said watch it for the path of self-destruction this guy goes down and it will become much more enjoyable. It did. I loved the way his character slowly descended into a level of madness.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

In one word, stupid.

I think they just tried too hard. Too hard.

The other Indy films have been believable to a point - this was just way over the top.

I don't even have much of a review because I think it was such a waste of time. By far the most overhyped, overrated movie of the year so far.

My advice, spend your $$$ on something else.

Don't you think if you were a 12 year old you might enjoy it more?

Save for The Last Crusade, I think the previous Indy movies would be more enjoyable for kids, since they seem to be more action-packed and likeable by younger audiences. Perhaps they tried that formula?

I expect the new Indy film to be over the top since we are in the age of CG and whatnot. The movies are pretty unbelievable since archaeologist don't do that, even the ones back in the 30's who were treasure hunters weren't quite like that. That's what makes the movie fun though, a since of adventure that I know I'll never be able to have. If they made a true to life archaeology movie you'd have Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Broken Ceramic Shard...how awesome would that be!!!

I actually think CGI is what makes most of today's movies crap... if it's to recreate something believable, it's alright. But rather, most blockbuster movies made today are relying too much on CGI, making it the selling point... argument, plot and acting are secondary.

Uh.... you mean except for the last crusade and raiders of the lost arc. You're talking about the temple of doom right? The one where they rip the guys heart out and burn him alive?

I've rewatched all of the jones movies recently, only temple of doom seemed to be aimed at 12 year olds and I was shocked at how truly horrible a movie it is. The others are good for all ages though.

Rewatching them may have a different effect, I'm sure. I always liked The Black Hole... to the point that I recently downloaded it and re-watched it... it was utter crap! Ten minutes into the movie I was hoping someone would short-circuit the stupid robots and they would self-destruct into atom bombs and blow up half the galaxy.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was probably my all-time favourite movie when I was a kid... I must've watched it like 30 times; it also helped that it was the only movie I owned on Betamax, and I was often bored at home. And the scene where the guy get's sliced by the plane's proppelers as the scene in Temple of Doom where the guy's heart is ripped out where scenes that excited me because I was seeing "adult" material that somwhow didn't get censored in a PG-13 movie... at the time I found it kinda gross, but didn't really shock me.

The Last Crusade would've been kinda boring for a kid, I think, since it was kinda less action-packed than the first two.

This Gun for Hire (1942) -- Little dialogue, lots of sarcasm, and the beautiful goddess Veronica Lake. Having watched L.A. Confidential before this one, I can see where a lot of the movie's ideas and film-noir-ness were taken from. One of the best of the genre. 8/10

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) -- Very well done film, and completely timeless. I especially liked the whole child's perspective of the father's life and the duality of it also being a law-type movie. Excellent acting, script, cinematography and movie in general. 10/10

Sweeny Todd on BD

Now I have to say off the bat; that I'm not a fan of musical films or theater but I do however like the actual music to Phantom Of The Opera.

With that small disclaimer out of the way I have to open my small review with "this film is awesome" I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't for this film to be as good as it was, the acting was fantastic, the direction was very good, the cinematography top notch the music and lyrics were good and most surprisingly the gore was very much in attendance and so graphic at times I was sure it must have been another film. But for some reason it wasn't so gory that it took something away from the film, if anything it added that touch of shock and horror that would otherwise have left the film pointless.

Watching on BD just added to the spectacle as the set design and effects (allot of green screen) looked so lush and eye popping in its dark and macabre way that it made you feel uneasy just from the surroundings. Now ive not mentioned anything about the singing yet because this is the staple of the film and the main attraction on offer and if I'm honest this film still hasn't fully changed my mind yet in regards to musical based moves or theater but its gone a long way to improve it, the lyrics are witty quick and well sung by the performers (and yes all the actors involved used their own voices) they all did a fantastic job and really sold the film well.

For me this film is a must watch if you are curious and even tho you may be adamant that you wont enjoy it, I recommend renting it as you may be surprised.

Wild Hogs. Very very funnym, nice story to it (similar to city slickers). Good to see Ray Liotta in something other than GoodFellas

9/10

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada - 2/10

An illegal immigrant ranch worker tricks a fellow American ranch worker to promise to take his body, when he dies, back to his 'family' and 'hometown' in Mexico that don't exist. The American ranch worker makes a promise that he would do just that.

A Border Agent, who believed he was being fired upon, kills his illegal friend in a shootout. Instead or reporting what happened, and in fear of being arrested for the accidental death, he buries the body in a shallow grave. The body is discovered and the story of what happen leaks out. The American is upset the Border Agent is not arrested and kidnaps him to keep his promise to his friend.

Not once did I feel an emotional attachment to ANY of the characters in this movie. This movie was boring, stale and as shallow as the first and final grave depicted in this movie. Avoid at all cost.

Awesome movie. I expected it to be like a 1:30 hour episode, but it was very good, having its own plot and I learned a lot from the Decepticons/Autobots heritage. 👍 8.5/10

What did you learn about their heritage? They kill off nearly every classic character within the first 30 minutes of the movie.

For me this movie was the end of The Transformers, as I knew it. I'm not saying that it wasn't good, just that it brought about the deaths of the entire first generation of Transformers and at five-years-old it was hard for me to keep up after that. So, for me this movie was kind of a conclusion.

Well, I never watched the TV series... they didn't show them in Venezuela when I was a kid, and only started doing so in the early 90s, and they mixed seasons, so I never really got to follow it much. However, I learned a bit about Ultra Magnus, who the hell Unicron was, why Magnetron hates Starscream and what the matrix is.

Speaking of sci-fi, I just saw this movie:

The Hidden (1987) -- This movie starts out like an action flick, with a pretty cool car chase in a Ferrari and throughout the movie there are a few more Ferraris racing around and a Porsche 944(?)... halfway through it gets sci-fi and a bit weird... thankfuly the low-budget nature of the film didn't spen too much making creatures, so the overall cheap effect is small. The result is a surprisingly good movie with a few shortcomings... which weren't that hard to expect given that it's an 80s movie and kinda cheap. All in all, a good rental. 7/10

The Innocents (1961) -- A young governess for two children becomes convinced that the house and grounds are haunted... with that said, you may be reminded a lot of The Others, and I'm quite sure the makers of that one got inspired by this one. Still, the movie relies on cinematic horror and suspense, which personally, is much more effective... the sound design is excellent and the lighting is perfect for the mood. 8/10

Untraceable

Well, went into this one not really knowing what to think. We only went to see it because we saw Indy earlier and there was nothing else worth watching. I was hoping it was going to be surprisingly good.

While it wasn't excellent, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

A computer hacker, thriller type of thing, it was fast moving and interesting. However, throughout the movie, it just lacked some punch. Something to really get it up and going. Everything was there, it was just missing that special X factor. :indiff:

I think what made this one better than the usual computer hacker flicks was the jargon they used was mostly accurate! Yay! And there wasn't anybody typing in "hack computer..." and no big green "ACCESS GRANTED!!!" screens like you tend to see. Also, not a Mac in sight. ZOMG! WTF?! A movie with computers and not a Mac?!!1! How can this be?... Yeah baby, Windows all the way. Although they picked the logo out of the top of a few laptops along the way.

All in all, not a waste of money, just lacking a certain something.

I love this movie! I saw it in the theaters with a girlfriend of mine when it was originally released. I figured it was one of those movies you can go see and make-out a little and watch some, make-out some more; but I was wrong. I watched the entire movie despite my date sucking on my neck or nibbling on my ear to get my attention. I remember, she went home mad that night. Ha!

Classic 80's Sci-fi flick, for sure. It's filled with crazy action twists, wild shootouts, car chases, sex scenes, heavy metal music, the works! Cheesy, but entertaining and thrilling at the same time.

Iron Man - 10/10 Wow, If they did this [censored] kick as of a job what are the next two gonna be like?! I can't even care about the stuff that wasn't realistic I mean, I had to literally pick my jaw up off the sticky theater floor... I don't think this was hyped up enough. WOW. Oh, hay Micheal Bay THIS is how you could do transformers...

:walks away:

Wow...

wow...

wow...

From what I hear the next one should be Incredible.

I'll go now.

John Rambo (Rambo 4) (2008) - well, i don't know what to say really. Stallone played as this really cool character. But why so much blood and gore? The CGI were kinda horrible too. I wanted the real explosions like in the previous movies:grumpy:. But it was fun to see Sylvester Stallone in action again, so it's cool.

Verdict: 7.5/10

The Invasion (2007) -- Contemporary remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers with modern special effects and thriller twists. Not a bad remake at that, but not exceptionally amazing... it follows the original movie almost perfectly. I liked it, as I did the original. 6.5/10

The Number 23 (2007) -- Not great, but watchable. Kinda suspenseful and with so many plot twists you kinda wonder why they bothered making the first half of it. The script is a bit predictable and the final segment of the film casually abandons the central premise in favour of a more generic 'mystery' storyline, which is what makes me not like it that much... too Hollywood for my taste. 6/10

The Naked City (1948) -- Another classic in the film noir style, although this one was the prime example of a different style. After WWII, the film noir genre changed; gone were the cynical, often witty tones, the anti-heroes and the dangerous women... people wanted more realism in the movies. The new style was photographed in a grainier way, more direct, more brutal, and even less sympathetic to its characters... and this was mayeb the first movie to do it. Also, a particulary different element here is that all exterior shots are done so in the real city (being New York)... no studio shots with the cardboard buildings. 7.5/10

No Country for Old Men: 👎 👎
Spoiler Free
Well executed. But well executed crap. It's like they didn't write a plot for this movie. Another one of those movies in which I thought it was going to be good until about 90% of the way through it.

Definitely deserved awards for acting, dialog, cinematography, etc. etc... but not for the plot.

This movie sparked an interesting discussion between myself and my wife about how we both seem to be willing to forgive poor execution in favor of a good plot. Unfortunately for movies like this one, with perfect execution and crap plot, it doesn't work the other way around.

I really enjoyed No Country for Old Men, I thought it was fantastic. Until about 20 mins from the end, then it just kind hasd a seizure and tied a noose around it's own neck. The final chapter of the film was a big let down.

Bladerunner

10/10

Best film ever! Awesome dialogue(though not without its flaws), a Music that would turn Final Fantasy on its head and one hell of plot twist makes Bladerunner a film that Turns the Terminator dull and obvious.

Saw the film on sky scifi+horror
