1. Good thinkin... it should be a rule! Buy all the cars :) that's 4 for GT300 and about 14 for GT500?

Car choice will be a race-by-race basis.

Qualifying speeds will determine who will select which car.

Will there also be a qualifying session to determine the grid order?

Will we all use the same car for the vehicle qualifying session?

This may not be necessary unless someone wants to use a certain car that two other people will be using. In which case someone may opt to go for another vehicle for simplicity sake so this may be an optional process.

Grid order for raceday, and qualifying entirely, is still being determined. I'm talking it over with Wardez, he came up with an idea which is posted somewhere in the online section.

Wardez' idea is basically have people qualify for grid seperate from race day through submission of times and replays by a deadline.

The order of the grid will be determined by the quickest time to the slowest time.

On the day of the race you simply set a 1 lap race and have drivers finish in the order above. Quickest first, second quickest second, slowest last. Make sure you have the grid order in the event settings set to "in order of last race" or something along those lines and then you're set.

PS. I hope I'm not coming off as aggressive. Simply throwing out ideas as they come. I have a final in about 5 hours so I think I'm gonna head to sleep!

...just finished reading it.

Well, first part is already implemented (race your way in by submitting a lap time). The second part about organizing the race grid sounds like a good idea... but i have something better in mind (i think)!

There will be a 10 minute free run to loosen up the racers. Run as hard as you can or not run at all. After the free run session, the race will start... well not really. The #1 qualifier will lead the whole grid and serve as a 'Pace Car' for 1 parade lap. All racers must know where they should line up! Everyone will line up at the grid before start finish on Lap 1. So there will be 21 laps in total.

When do we start the race? (remember today's practice?)

There's always a timer during a race (Total Time). We will set the green flag based on that. For example; Green flag will be 5:00.00 total time. Everyone should be settled on their grid spot before 5:00.00 When the said time hits, its green flag!

Yeah this could work but I honestly don't think you can rely on everyone lining up properly. You'll just run into problems like people taking off prematurely, not being with in their marker etc.

I've never played a racing sim or game that's not had automatic gridding. I think it's a bit excessive. We should feel lucky that we all get lined up exactly and don't have to worry about false starts.

The warm up would be nice so the tires wouldn't be too cold but again it's not worth the hassle.

Could imagine a rolling start maybe working. Where the parade/warm up lap happens as you stated and then as the train rolls up close together to the straight you step on it as soon as the leader hits the the start/finish line. It's a little easier to notice when someone steps out of line.

That would be easier and not be dependent so much on starting the race against a clock, which is never really done in real life. Look at F1, the lights never go off at the same time, it's randomly sequenced so the drivers are using their reflexes and not just their timing.

Car choice will be a race-by-race basis.

Qualifying speeds will determine who will select which car.

So, if you're in GT500 you need 14 cars x 950,000cr= 13,300,000cr. That's a lot. Given that there's only 8 people max in your class though, and a car can be selected twice at worst you would need to own your top 4 car choices in order to guarantee yourself a slot. That's only 3,800,000cr. The accepted best race for earning money is that one American Challenge@Indy, for about 98,000cr if I recall correctly. You'd need to do that 39 times to get the money. It'd take about three and a half hours to grind out that many races.

I dunno about this. Requiring that you buy at least three extra, redundant cars to compete seems like a waste of time. Not to mention the hassle of tuning four cars without the knowledge of which one you will ultimately be able to use. The difficulty of practising in four cars. And so on.

I don't think the idea behind the rule is bad, I just think in practise it would be a lot more hassle than it was worth.

Post 1 and 2 updated.

@ wardez - should stewards wear mics to help organize the start of the race?

@ imari - Well, buying all GT300 cars shouldn't be a problem (or trading for them). GT500 is a different story since there's about 15 cars? Here's what i propose.

There will be predetermined number of cars that are mandatory to compete for the Championship. We will call them official cars. Official cars will be voted upon and be decided through majority vote.

Official cars
GT500 - 6 cars
GT400 - 4 cars

GT500
2 of the Lexus'
2 of the Nissans
2 of the Hondas

GT300
1 of each make (only 4)

Leaving aside the question of owning the cars, how about the issues relating to tuning and practise?

It takes a non-trivial amount of time to set-up a car, and you're multiplying that by at least four. The cars are similar, but not identical, particularly the MR cars. Practise and familiarity with your car on the given track is highly recommended for aiding clean racing, but we're required to practise in four different cars with no knowledge of which we will be using on the day.

I'm sorry, it feels like in order to participate in this I'm required to do more work, both in terms of investment in cars and in terms of preparation each week, and am supplied with less knowledge of how my race will actually run, which impacts my ability to plan for it.

Honestly, as it stands now, I'm out. I have no desire to purchase and tune four cars. If the rules change, I'd like to return because I do enjoy the racing, but for now I just can't do it.

Fair enough. That's why everything i have posted is subject to change. Every comments are duly noted. It's a work in progress. Having the preseason helps.

Im off to bed. Thanks to my vacation, i'm able to stay this late :)

Good on you mate. Sorry if I'm being a pain in the arse. I'll rock up to practise and have a bit of a run with you guys tomorrow if you're around.

If you need someone to run the Garaiya in Div 1, I'm still keen. I see you're one short in the GT300s.

No worries. Im all for democracy. I don't make the rules,
everyone does.

Sure. Last spot is yours.

He will be relegated to Div 2.

Btw, everyone please PM on where you want to be when the season starts. GT500 or GT300? 32 spots for both classes. See first post for details!

mmm im ok with the rules, but the only problem i have is the racetime, the 2 options leading dont suit me at all. fridays im free till 7pm (PST) and saturdays till 1pm (PST).

Can you make the race at Noon? The race should not take no more than 45 minutes.

I'm am looking for someone from Div 2 to host the Div 2 race - so we can have both races run Simultaneously.

ahahhaha sry i wrote it ALL wrong, what i was trying to say is that im free "after" 7pm on friday and after 1pm on saturday. sry my bad. ill respect your decision

provided this starts at 11:00 PST I can make it as long as the race starts at that time sharp as that is 2:00pm EST. Any later and I can't make it.

11am is actually a good time. It will accommodate the drivers from Europe.

NOTE: Everyone Add Me on PSN! I sent out requests and there's a few who hasn't accepted them yet.

I can't make this Saturday morning. I'm gonna be out all morning. I still have to get my details together with the people I'm going out to eat with but I don't think I'll be back before noon.

I can get back home at 2:00 PM PST probably at the fastest.
