Are the tracks for the WRC series modeled after the real stages?
Kind of. They’re not exact recreations but there are recognisable sections and landmarks kind of cherry picked from all the stages of the countries. The Super specials are exact recreations.

Is it different to settings for wrc9? I might get it soon since it's on sale on psn ps4.
My settings are very different compared to WRC 9. I can only speak for Logitech, but this time around (WRC 10) I found myself raising values rather than lowering them. The whole FFB system feels more nuanced and smoother than in 9. As a fan of Richard Burns Rally and Assetto Corsa Competizione FFB, I do like the FFB in WRC 10. It's no sim (due to the simplicity of the driving model) but it's very competent and enjoyable to drive, and the FFB accompanies the driving with the necessary information to enjoy intuitive driving along with some great, albeit canned, vibration effects that provide good immersion.

Do you feel wrc9 is worth upgrade from wrc8?

Ffb same from 8 to 9?

I know you are not a huge fan of the Kylotonn WRC games so I would say the upgrade from 8 to 9 is not worth it. Yes, it's an upgrade, but incremental. I would go straight to 10. It has a lot more content and features than 9 along with the improvements in FFB and driving model.

Or wait until 11. I have a feeling KT is going to go out with a bang with their final WRC game.

@FrankieStail and anyone not on PC or next-gen consoles: I would say stay away. The 30fps is jarring.

I actually disagree here and think that the jump from 8 to 9 was pretty significant, they're night and day to me, especially as a wheel player. The lack of handbrake support before 9 alone is significant enough.
I'd say go 9 if you just want to test the water for less cash, but go 10 if you want to compete and have more content. Handling model is excellent in both, don't listen to what the online parrots say.

Thanks guys, yeah i dont know, it's 20cad now on psn ps4, not bad, plus there's not much I'd be missing on dlcs with this base game.

Well, yes i did critic wrc8 quite a bit, cause i find there's many faults, unfinished, unpolished aspects to it, that can often make it hard to enjoy and on std ps4 especially maybe, but not just that.

But i do like it quite a bit too, i did reset my ffb, adding back feel to it, ..many settings i had put to 0 feeling it's unnatural gimmicks, but it works, adds a lot of feel that i was missing.

Also sounds i set louder to hear better what's happening on the road, and car, only thing now the smallest hit on something roadside is crazy loud.
I also set engine sounds low, as i find them annoying and headaching more than anything.

I also finally went back to cockpit view, hides a lot of the slow fps of the environment.
Sometimes use dash view if the cockpit is too impractical on certain cars.
Etc..

So still unsure, but i feel it be an improvement, and a little more pleasant experience with 9 vs 8.
Yeah it be a cheaper step up at least, im not spending near regular price for sure for 10.

Night stages are impossible in cockpit/dash. The lighting is wrong and I have to switch to hood cam at night. Still not fixed in 10.

In USA 9 is $15 and 10 is $27.50. I assume in Canada, too. At those prices I would go with 10. And here's why:

  1. Realistic mode in Career/Seasons - 15-stage rallies (between 60 and 90 minutes); you have to choose your tires and manage them over the whole rally; can mix-and-match compounds making this the first rally game ever with real tire strategy. And now the Clubs are getting a Realistic mode added to them, too.
  2. The best physics and FFB yet from KT (better than 8; slightly better than 9)
  3. Content - 10 blows all other KT WRC games out of the water on content. Brand new rallies in Belgium, Croatia, Greece & Estonia. Spain and Portugal redone 100%. Plus redone Finland from 9 that you haven't played yet. The COVID-cancelled rallies like Japan and Chile are still there. Some stages from older rallies returning for anniversary mode: Argentina, Spain, New Zealand, and more. The San Remo classic stage is awesome. The 25th anniversary mode is a nice addition (similar to the Loeb experience in SLRE). Career mode now with your own private team with livery editor.
If you are actually thinking about getting a WRC right now I would definitely go for 10 while it's 45% off.

Just for the record, in case you need some more info to munch on, here are my top three negatives of 10:

  1. AI is just as inconsistent as in 9. And 150% in 10 appears to equal about what 120% was in 9. I play on 150%, and on a couple rallies I blow away the bots by a minute or two (over a one-hour rally). On a couple other rallies I can't even get top 10. On most I am fighting for top 5 or podium (those are the ones I enjoy). My first career rally in WRC2, Monte Carlo, 90 minute rally, I finished second by only 0.5s!!!! That was fun. But the AI inconsistency is annoying. Oh, and they NEVER DNF...
  2. KT still seems to have issues with rules and playability. In my WRC2 season I have to do all the rallies, while my rivals only do their designated rallies. And why is WRC2 and WRC3 all lumped together in my WRC2 championship? Why in WRC does every car get manufacturers points when it should be only the three designated scorers? Things that really make you wonder this being an official game and all. And those ridiculous objectives are still there like "Don't use hard tires in two rallies" or "Don't use more than 15' of repairs in the next rally. Right, so 15 stages with four service parks of 45' each but my "sponsor" wants me to only fix the bumper and do 80% of the rally at 40km/hr so as not to use up service time? Whatever...
  3. Lighting and color palette - The colors have been toned down and 10 looks blander than 8 & 9. It doesn't look bad but I prefer the previous games' colors. And the lighting has taken a step backward. Night driving is difficult from cockpit. So is dawn or dusk depending on weather conditions. Annoying. Have to switch to hood cam occasionally.

Yeah the simulation of pupil dilation in darker cockpit pov helps to see brighter in 8 though i find, in regular conditions, less dark in shadows etc.
But then too bright in snow, so i have to switch to hood as well.
Can't remember night stages much just now.

Well you do make it enticing to jump to 10, regarding content especially.
10 Seems to have more problems in new gen stutter surprisingly, from what i read, i dont know if it was fixed, and mostly not sure if it runs worse than 9 though on std ps4.

Edit: well in canada base 9 is 20, base 10 is 36bucks. But yeah in the long run it be worth it to jump to 10 at those prices.

New gen stutters have been fixed. It was horrible in balanced mode (60fps) before the patch. You are on an older gen console?

PS5 has three modes:

  1. Detail (4k locked + 30fps locked): jarring but playable if you have no other choice
  2. Balanced (dynamic 4k + 60fps supposedly locked but it stutters a bit with low sun + lots of trees): very similar to WRC9 on my i7 RTX 2060 laptop @1440p + 60fps on High setting, but the graphics are better on PS5 than on my laptop. Seems closer to ultra
  3. 120fps (PS3 graphics + 120fps): smooth as butter but looks like absolute donkey -@ss.

Stutter was fixed in one of the patches. Same as in 9

Edit
Over at the jrc rally league we’re running a side series starting today on wrc10.
For PlayStation frankiestail’s club
For pc npippo’s club

If you want to wear out this game quickly proceed with caution when choosing ‘Realistic’ career rally length.

While I completely appreciate the tire strategy on long rallies (a very welcome addition), it took me over 90 minutes of driving time to complete the Portugal rally with the AI apparently asleep at the wheel giving me no competition.

During the rally I thought to myself if have to drive through that little town one more time I’m going to lose my mind…I considered skipping the final PS because I had such a lead.

Seriously though, this series does improve from year to year. Along with the new rallies here are my welcome additions and changes:

  • Female codriver (so much better than the men; I can never hear them over the ambient sounds)
  • Puddle sound MUCH improved
  • Car sounds improved (body effects, throttle input, transmission sounds are believable and immersive)
  • 50th Anniversary mode
  • Tire management; what took a dev so long to implement this is beyond comprehension
  • FFB while not perfect is the least fiddling and frustratingly free of the franchise
  • Clutch engagement in H shifting cars improved, feels less like an on/off switch
Things that make me go meh:

  • Immersive (yet obtrusive) codriver. The caffeine overload is back from the WRC5-7 era and it’s still funny and so random-- !!!PERFECT!!! !!!YES!!! !AH! — I’ve heard everything I need to here, turned that option off
  • 30fps on legacy consoles, but seriously was I expecting anything else

And the not so great:

  • What happened to my headlights at night, the FIA must have lowered the lumens regulations
  • Static loading screens still annoying, at least give something dynamic to see or hear other than the constant spinning wheel advertising for Fanatec
  • Replays never a strong point, this could be listed under meh
  • Idiotic team goals still present
  • AI is hugely inconsistent from rally to rally (like really, am I that good or that bad?)

Well, one more round to go for KT, let’s see how the finish next year.

Is anyone interested in putting together a GT Planet multiplatform league? With the new Realistic mode the Clubs are now apt for putting together a fun league. Between the 12 base rallies + Wales + Chile + the historic stages we could put together an interesting season of 16 rallies. Thinking about 30 minutes per rally, with two rallies per month.

If you are interested just like the post. No need to reply. If there is enough interest I will open another thread for signups.

There's a really good multiplatform championship already going, it's run via Facebook though which isn't everyone's cup of tea...

I think I'm in that one. And I don't have Facebook so it's basically I'm just participating with a bunch of unknown drivers. That's why I would like to put something together between us here. Although there might not be enough interest. I tried with WRC 9 and it never got off the ground.

Question: Are people who are on PS4 and PS5 able to join the same club or are they both separate?
Multiplayer is cross-gen but I am pretty sure clubs are not. A PS4 user could try finding my PS5 club to confirm. User is pfei.

Ok I just had a look (the lack of a search function made this very tedious) and I found it so I guess it is possible as I'm on PS4

I’d consider joining the club but you guys are so fast. I’m seriously only playing the career mode at ‘75’ and but fairly well. Could maybe increase it to 85-90.

Another feature of the game I forgot to mention that’s a welcome addition is the shakedown, even though it’s only a single run.

Also, I like the 50th Anniversary mode but I’d like at least 2 or 3 challenges per car. I’m only at the 1980 Fiat @ Portugal challenge so maybe there are more. Not sure.

Tried out the livery editor, seems decent. At least we got one this time around.

And if you’re into collecting trophies/achievements I noticed that you now need to win a career rally (not only get a podium) to unlock the ‘winner in x’ trophies. The description on PS is incorrect.
