I don't know what I was expecting but I assumed there'd be more grip than there was! I guess that's a lesson, albeit a rather mortifying one (I did select soft tyres but reverted back for the shakedown to get a 5th winter set).

It's going to be a long week waiting for Sweden...

Wow that's rotten luck.

I have thought the next time I load the game I'm going to simulate going headfirst for a tree to see and see if I'm fast enough to pause and reset the car before Terminal Damage or ending up in an Unrecoverable position. I don't know if it'll work maybe you can't reset the car when going at a certain speed perhaps? It seems like a slightly scummy thing to do but I will try it once to see If it indeed is possible and then refrain from it if it feels like exploitative.
Just wanted to inform you guys I am out for the league. Workload has increased and I have little time left. The time I do have I want to use to drive my prefered combos.
Sad to see you go, Hopefully when things slow down for you and when there's a combo that you fancy playing we will see you back?

In other news I have my PC back from my PC guy, Lovely playing on max settings now. Just completed the 5-6 moments I had missed since Tuesday. Felt and looked great.😍

If I remember correctly, the car has to be stationary to be reset. Could be wrong though.

I'm almost certain that's the case, I was frantically mashing the d-pad as I couldn't remember if it was up or down that was mapped to reset, then I figured I'd let it roll into the tree and hopefully reset from there. Didn't get the chance as you saw...

I used the Delta Integrale for Monte Carlo thanks to the Riccardo Errani clause. My run was going pretty well until the gearbox gave up on stage 6 so I had to call my Rally there. I'll be in the Galant for the rest of the season so need to get good for the reminding rounds

Motobushi dominance at the top of the leaderboards. The slow really helps with not sliding off the road, but I'd like to also credit taking it extra easy around the @Dreadmed Crevasse. May he Rest In Trees, his sacrifice will not be forgotten. ;)

I would like to request some bonnet pins that aren't made of cheese though. Mine break the moment I rub against a bush (which is fairly inevitable with the state of the road) and then the bonnet is flapping around annoyingly the whole way. I thought the point of those things was so that the bonnet DIDN'T move around and fall off?

The Mitsubishi looks like one of those cars which are built like a tank and can take a beating that would finish off lesser cars, I did get through 4 radiators in the rally though and did stage 4 with hopes and dreams alone cooling the engine 😬

It is strange how weak the Bonnets seem on the game. I've had one start flapping just from lightly scraping a surface (no real impact).

Even when there is no damage there is a slight movement and shake which is kind of a nice detail. Although given how Bonnet Pins work not entirely realistic. Maybe in the older production based cars it makes sense but not so much in the modern stuff.

I've only had it happen once or twice so I can't be entirely sure, I believe "wrecked" terminal damage still gives you the option to carry on from the next scheduled service (and a "full" stage time for the skipped stages). It's a pity the lemmings among us didn't have that option, they'd be serious scope for recovery drives considering the attrition rate.

That said, I'm interested in seeing how many actually get to the end. :D

It really, really annoyed me dropping off the edge. I knew if I got to the end of the final stage I'd be in for some points, and was being super cautious rather than my usual "if I crash I crash, let's go fast" approach.
The more I play this game the more I like it in comparison to DR2.0

Dammit @GOTMAXPOWER (I'm assuming you had a puncture at the end of the last one as you lost a good chunk of time in the end)

I was actually pretty lucky to finish the rally, I made a mistake right at the end of the last stage and destroyed the car but if the angle was any different I would've gone straight through the gap between the end of the fence and the start of the wall which would've been a unrecoverable fall down the cliff.

Won’t have time to practice so I’ll try to jump in this evening to get rally done.

What tyres are best for this, winters all the way or are some set of stages suited to softs?

Winters I’d say are probably the option for all stages. In the 7 stages I managed to complete, I wouldn’t have taken soft for any leg.

This is the ideal scenario where I wish we could cross mount tyres like in real life.

I have limited time today for me to get on and to complete my run so it will have to be no practice for me. I'm going to try my best to just finish and not push too much. There's very little room for error on Monte so I'll leave that for the more forgiving events. ;) 👍

Edit - Ahhh, Had a great start to the Rally then wasted 2 minutes with a puncture on Pra D Alart. One of the stages I happened to remember too... 🥺 Oh well, Recovery drive it is  Looking at the times I would've been right up amongst it too.😣 😄

Were you driving with a puncture or did you replace your tyre? For myself I've found that it's better to just repair it even if you're like 5km from the end (especially on hardcore damage) just to avoid destroying the car

Yeah I tried to make it to the end but the tyre blew and I spun. The car didn't feel too bad with just the tyre deflated, On the rim it was impossible though.

Edit - Finished my run, Home safe. I really enjoyed the Cossie, Glad I stuck with my usual Ford allegiance. Shame about Stage 5, I lost 1:55 on that stage alone😭 No complaints about this puncture though, I wacked the wall pretty solidly in all fairness.

Happy with how I finished the Rally though. 😊👍

Round 1 of the 1995 World Rally Championship is complete, Mont-Carlo took no prisoners in a rally that took on the best and won.

46 entered, 14 finished, massive well done to the 14 who made it to the end. @GOTMAXPOWER held his nerve in the Mistubishi to take victory by just 2.7 seconds over @Speedster502 and his Escort Cosworth in an immense battle for the win. @Hasnain282 made the podium in his Toyota Celica only a further 8 tenths of a second back. The top 3 separated by just 3.6 seconds 🤯, with 3 different cars represented.

A difficult event for Subaru with a number of top drivers falling by the wayside. Leaving @FrankieStail to collect a good handful of points for the Japanese marque who were hoping to build on the strong finish to their 1994 campaign. Ford will be delighted with a very strong showing once again at Monte-Carlo after Francois Delecours win last season, and 4 cars inside the top 10 this time around, with 3 of those qualifying for points. Mitsubishi will be the happiest team though, taking a strong top spot, also with 3 of the 4 finishers scoring points. Toyota will be happy with the debut of the ST205 in terms of pace, but after losing one of the expected top runners in the first stage, there's work to do ahead of Sweden to get the full contingent of cars back up and running.

The real 1995 Monte-Carlo rally took place over 547 competitive kilometers across 21 stages and saw Carlos Sainz take the opening victory for Subaru, beating Delecour and his Escort by nearly 2 and a half minutes, with Juha Kankkunen taking 3rd for Toyota (mimicking 2nd and 3rd in our series). Tommi Makinen placed 4th for Mitsubishi almost 5 minutes off the pace.

Similar to our event, it was a tough one to finish, 199 crews began the rally, just 82 made it to the finish.

Welcome to the 44th running of the International Swedish Rally. The only all snow event of the season and will provide a cold and stern test for the drivers. With Monte-Carlo proving problematic for so many, expectations for more finishers will be high. As of this running in 1995, no driver from outside Sweden or Finland has won the event, will that change this year? strap in and lets find out.

Great write-up @MagpieRacer!

Think Sweden could be interesting! I expect a lot of the top-runners from Monte that perhaps didn't make it to the end might do well here. Quite a bit less likely to get terminal damage from rolling off a cliff here...It already looks tight at the top of the leaderboard, so I expect it'll come down to who spends less time ping-ponging off the snowbanks
