Great write-up @MagpieRacer!

Think Sweden could be interesting! I expect a lot of the top-runners from Monte that perhaps didn't make it to the end might do well here. Quite a bit less likely to get terminal damage from rolling off a cliff here...It already looks tight at the top of the leaderboard, so I expect it'll come down to who spends less time ping-ponging off the snowbanks

Thank you ☺️

Yeah I thought that with Sweden and then pitched my Subaru into a death roll within 30 seconds of SS1. Fortunately it was mostly cosmetic but I’ve been a bit more careful since then 😅.

I’d an immaculate run in Monte but it came at the price of no pace whatsoever, I don’t practice the multi stage rallies due to time constraints, just get time for the dailies really.

Looks like a much higher success rate of finishing than Monte Carlo so far 😅.

Frustratingly that doesn’t include me after my car decided to total itself after the finish line on SS9 🙃

Posted my start in a different thread by mistake 🤣, well I need a moments style comeback after first four stages. Set my gears too wide on first 2 stages, barrell rolled on the 3rd. Car was knackered in the 4th stage.

My humble entry for best barrel roll of the rally on SS8... 😵

That arguably ruled out any hope I had of grabbing the provisional lead, it was a tad wobbly for the rest of the event...

20231210205041_1.jpg

That picture probably doesn't do it justice, it looked a lot more warped (and sorry for itself) when it was sitting in the final service area! 😬

Not the cleanest run and the first two stages were a bit slow as I was getting up to speed. A roll and a 21 second penalty didn't help me either but aside from that I'm fairly happy with my run. Sweden and snow definitely isn't my strong point but the Galant served me well.

Thinking I'll hold off til tomorrow to enter, in the hopes that the new update finally fixes the framerate issues on Series X 👀
And the club repair bug, it's great that it has been fixed but also a little frustrating that anyone who does the event from tomorrow will not have been able to benefit from the exploit, so it may unbalance this round somehwat.

Still glad it has been fixed, and just in time for Portugal and Corsica as well, which are famous for being easy on the cars 😬

On a positive note, we almost have as many finishers in Sweden at the halfway point as we had at the end of Monte-Carlo, so should have a strong amount of finishers.

Snow banks seem to be the cause of many people plights here, slightly more forgiving than Montes cliffs, but can still be pretty catastrophic at speed if you catch it wrong.

You mean there is a way I could've had left and right steering on the final stage?! 🤯

On my second day of owning a rally game, I learned that I should have thought about a spare wheel, as driving the last 6 miles of stage 4 with a puncture and steering pointing sidewise is not fun. Stage 6 was great though - made up for the pain.

Really enjoyed my run through Sweden. A few mistakes here and there, but perhaps nothing as major as others. Not looking forward to Portugal quite so much, so I'm expecting to be much further down the leaderboard there

Here's a few shots from my time in the snow...mostly flying.

Just surviving Portugal and Corsica would be an achievement for me
Corsica for sure is going to be tough. I'm looking forward to Portugal just to get back on some gravel.

After those 2 though, I won't say it gets easier, but the second half of the calendar is certainly more forgiving. Although Rally GB in Winter can still throw up some difficulty.

Driving Corsica at 30mph in the middle of the road will probably be enough to bag some big points, from personal experience its even tougher than Monte Carlo so I doubt we'll see many finishers there.

Sticking with this championship, but on ps5 this update has totally ruined this game. The screen tearing is painful to watch even in the menus now.

..funnily enough, had a go day later not much of the tearing. None whatsoever in the menus. May be a perseverance thing like on release day. It went alot better after a few days playing different stages

I'm going to have to do all of Sweden tonight If I want to squeeze in before the finish time. I played a bit yesterday just doing some moments so I could get my settings back to where I was comfortable with. Like what people have said though, The shader cache stutter is back so For the first couple of Sweden stages I will have to be careful. Unless I just run the long stages before hand in quickplay to get that out the way. Not being able to use the exploit for free tyres and repairs doesn't bother me too much. I feel a service every other stage is forgiving enough anyway.

Edit - Oh well, My fairly rushed attempt is in. Rather frustrated with multiple rolls and spins on pretty much every other stage. I should have had second but flew into the crowd trying to win the last stage.

The fix for unlimited tyres and fixes definitely hindered me as well, My Turbo was spending most of its energy emitting an insanely loud death whistle instead of producing more power for the last 4 stages.

Round 2 of the 1995 World Rally Championship is complete! The Swedish International Rally proved itself a challenge, with the deep snowbanks causing a fair share of problems, with many cars pitching into rolls and costing even the top runners some time.

23 drivers saw the finish line this round, with the top 2 separated by just 17 seconds. This time, it is @Speedster502 who took the victory at the wheel of his Ford Escort Cosworth, building on his strong 2nd place at Monte-Carlo. @Dreadmed took P2 in his Mitsubishi and @RYAN just 8 seconds further back in 3rd in the 2nd of the Ford Escorts, a good result but will feel he could have had more after a series or errors late in the rally.

Subaru found some pace this time around with @galahad taking 4th place. Toyota struggled with @Hasnain282 their only top 10 finisher in the rally. Toyota will be disappointed with this finish after taking a 1-2 at the last Swedish rally with Mats Jonsson and Juha Kankkunen. They will be hoping to pick up the pace on the first gravel event in Portugal. As will Subaru, who despite a stronger showing in Sweden, still missed some key drivers in and around the points and need to start scoring quickly to stay in the constructors race.

In the constructors, Ford take over the lead of the championship with a very strong points haul from 3 cars, replacing Mitsubishi who slip to 2nd with only 2 cars scoring points. Subaru leapfrog Toyota with 3 cars scoring enough to turn a 3 point deficit into a 4 point advantage, leaving Toyota bottom of the pile.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The real 1995 event continued the Scandinavians domination of the Swedish event. With Kenneth Eriksson winning for Mitsubishi after Tommi Makinen conceded the lead after pre-planned team orders on the Saturday evening. Despite Tommi pulling a huge lead, Erikssons Saturday lead gave him the nod in the eyes of Mitsubishi. Toyota rolled up in 3rd place with Thomas Radstrom, completing a Scandinavian podium, and leading home the trio of Celicas with Kankkunen and Auriol in 4th and 5th. Ford only managed 6th and 7th with Bruno Thiry and Stig Blomqvist respectively.

It was another event to forget for Subaru, with all 3 cars retiring with the same engine problem, and leaving Colin McRae with zero points after the 2nd of 8 rounds and his championship hopes already fading.

Welcome everyone to the 29th TAP Rallye de Portugal. We head to a gravel rally for the first time this season, but be careful, there are plenty of extended tarmac sections to catch you out. The rally takes us through rocky outcrops, tight villages and high speed lowland sections as well as the famous Fafe jump where thousands of spectators will gather to catch a glimpse of 1.2 tonnes of steel flying.
The weather forecast looks good for day 1, with rain creeping in for day 2 whilst the later stages may suffer heavy downpours as heavier rain arrives overnight into day 3.

Hi all.

This club is a very great idea! I've found myself replicating real seasons against CPU many times, as I guess many rally fans do. So making a club out of it is actually ideal.

Sweden was so much fun, I hope I can keep the pace at Portugal! Hopefully I don't have a mid season shoulder injury like Sainz Sr. did in 95 haha, so I can bring home many points for Subaru.

Thank you @MagpieRacer for the organization of these events and the real world counterpart recreation.

Edit: I'm Jose btw, Swedish Rally 4th guy.

Hey welcome! Glad to have you along and happy that you're enjoying the concept 😀 .

Ah damn it, I’m used to clubs ending on Mondays so thought I’d today to run Sweden.

Ah well, I’ll try to get back on top of clubs in new year as it will be busy over holidays for me but I’ll try to fit in what I can.

Looks like Portugal is going to be a rally of management. It hasn’t been generous with tyre sets and it’s very rough so damage management will be crucial.
Two sets of tyres for the whole rally is definitely on the stingy side. Did the first four stages on a set of Softs, and now I've only got a set of Mediums to do the rest. :sly:

Some observations on the first four stages at Portugal.
  • No screen tearing
  • Tarmac handling is weird; feels excessively grippy. In retrospect I wonder if the harder compound would have been better. This was my first experience of tarmac in a rally game, so maybe that is normal?
  • Tyre wear was harsh. I'm still getting used to understanding the service area, but think I have a pair of softs and a pair of mediums left for the last six stages.
  • The sunrise and sunset colours were beautiful
