GP of Brazil 2007

Oh yeah, and pitted two laps later :P

Yeah I know but even in the last few laps thery were really flying along in that scrap with rosberg and kubica...

It really is disgraceful to take the championship from kimi because of someone elses cheating! He crossed the finish line first and was crowned the champion FULL STOP!

Exactly what I was thinking... Will his title be affected if the cars in question's places are changed?

Yes. If they're DQ'ed, Hamilton will effectively have finished 5th, and therefore be crowned champion.

But, he'll always have that half-a-champion next to his name if this happens.

I was really hoping that this championship would be decided on the track by the drivers and not in some office or courtroom by stewards or lawyers.

Damn it. Even though I support Hamilton, winning a championship that way isn't right. Kimi deserves his championship.

I'm sure Ferrari's lawyers are already busy coming up with an argument to have McLaren banned from the driver's championship as a result of the whole Stepney stuff.

Not really because the cheating guys might not have finished anywhere near there in the first place. Wouldnt be very nice for kimi though :dunce:

If there's ever a Grand Prix 2 film, they'll use this season as it's reference..

Unbelievable..

I don't think BMW and Williams cheated , I would think they are using the same fuel supplier (Castrol maybe?) and its a screw up from there, and btw the reason why Kubica was running slower in the last is because he had to turn down his engine because it was overheating , so much for getting benefit from cooler fuel.... according to ITV a DQ might not be the choice of punishment

Were the three drivers to be disqualified from Sunday’s race, Lewis Hamilton would inherit fourth place – and the title.

However, given the ramifications of delivering such a bombshell, it is thought more likely that a different penalty will be applied.

I don't like the sound of this at all, sure the cars have cheated, but when the car is in question surely its the team that takes the fall rather than the drivers. Even if it isn't and the drivers are stripped of their points, to me the winner has already been crowned, it seems a little late to be passing the trophey, surely they had this data on hand at the time, if so why not a stop go penalty? but changing the title after we know of the winner to me seems a little off, even if BMW and Williams cheated.

^Castrol don't do fuel they do oil,

perhaps there fuelling device was left in the shade?

Not really because the cheating guys might not have finished anywhere near there in the first place.
I think BMW has established their pace this year, and where they finished does not seem suspicious at all. The same can be said for Nico Rosberg.

Well done to Kimi for winning the world championship. 👍

He did win more races than anyone else...

That's how it should be IMO, driver that wins the most races wins the title.

Anyway, great race today, Ferrari did everything they needed to do to try to get Kimi that win & the title; Kimi's guys didn't let him down on that last pitstop and got him in and out with the lead.

Disclaimer: This post is a long one and I apologize for it. It is an overview of my thoughts of today's race and of the entire year.

Can we not just let Kimi celebrate his very long overdue championship? A championship should not be decided off the track, but instead on the track like what was done today. Kimi and Ferrari did everything they could to win the race and the championship and very much deserve to celebrate what has occurred at Sao Paulo. 👍

Before I posted today, I wanted to take a little time to let the fact that Kimi had managed to win the race and all of his opposition finished in the right spot for him to win the championship settle in. But now this stuff comes up and could potentially ruin what ended up being a wonderful way to finish an extremely exciting year 👎, especially considering I have been a long time Kimi Raikkonen fan.

Having said that, beautiful drive today by Kimi! He did what he needed to do to win the championship. 👍 Before his second pit stop, he ran fast lap after fast lap to get in front of Massa, though I think he may have had a little help from Massa and the team on that one; yet, we may never know. Either way, it was still a great effort! 👍 Massa drove a wonderful race today in support of Kimi's title chase and I am very happy that he was so very willing to help his teammate's chance on winning the driver's championship, as his performance was the very definition of a good teammate.

On the day, Ferrari were just unstoppable and it would be a real shame to take Kimi's title away on a day in which both he and his teammate were so utterly dominate. No one else in the race had a chance to catch either of the Ferraris.

McLaren have had a wonderful year and will always be in my mind the Constructor's Champion for the year, even though Ferrari have technically won it. I don't really understand how a team can have their points revoked, but yet the drivers are still allowed to compete. So to me, I will always remember McLaren as the Constructor's Champion for the wild and wacky year of 2007 in Formula 1.

Hamilton drove brilliantly all year, especially considering his rookie status, and could have easily finished the year as the Driver's Champion (and could potentially still on a technicality 👎). It helped the entire year that he was in one of the two best cars for the entire year; but no matter how good the car is, the driver still has to effectively utilize it and Hamilton did so very well. I look forward to watching him continue to grow in his abilities in Formula 1 and fully expect him to win at least one Driver's Championship before all is said and done, though that is not to say I will not be rooting against him though (so long as Kimi is still in F1). All the while, I will enjoy seeing such an exceptional young talent consistently competing for race wins.

As much as I do not like Alonso for his whining, he drove very well the entire year. I have to give it up to him for being so very talented and constantly doing his best to keep himself in the race for the Driver's Championship. He is a talented driver and utilizes his skills very well come race day. If he could clean up his off the track antics, mainly the whining, then I could probably warm a little towards him.

BMW have been the definitive third best team on the year and here's to hoping they can take that and build on it next year. During the Canadian GP and Robert Kubica's crash, I was very much concerned for his health, as his wreck was very much a nasty one; being he basically just walked the wreck off is amazing and a testament to the improvements in the safety of today's cars.

Renault had an up and down year and today was no exception to that. Hopefully they can bounce back and Heikki can continue his strides in becoming a top tier driver.

Nico Rosberg had a nice race today and a nice year. Yet again, hopefully he can continue to become a better driver and pull Williams back up in the Constructor's race, as Williams truly belong near the top and it is somewhat saddening to see them finish fourth (really fifth if McLaren are not excluded).

Red Bull and STR finished the year strongly and with Adrian Newey at the helm, should be able to take that momentum into next year and build on it. Hopefully, Newey can develop a car that will be more reliable, as I am getting tired of seeing a retirement from Mark Webber. I have basically accepted Mark Webber to be a retirement in every race, as it seems he never finishes a race.

Toyota and Honda are both way off and I think will continue to be there until they find an exceptionally talented driver to drive for them. Each team has drivers that are solid number two drivers, but not up to the task of being a number one.

Super Best Friends had a good year netting four points and I can only hope next year they can continue getting those good results. It is always good to see one of the teams at the back do well.

I cannot really say much about Spyker, really how can you when they have a new team name each week (okay, maybe each year . . . either way, they have a new name too often). Never really paid much attention to them, though Adrian Sutil was impressive at times and should be moving to a better team next year.

Overall, it was an amazing year that came down to the last race between three drivers. One came in today with virtually no realistic chance at winning the championship and managed to pull it out, one shot to stardom in his first year, and the other battled fiercely until the end. Hopefully, some technicalities will not ruin today's results and put another smudge on a year in which too much smudges have happened.

Congratulations to McLaren! On what should be their championship and their excellent competition.

Congratulations to Ferrari! This has to do more with their effort and results today.

Congratulations Kimi! It is long overdue and you truly deserve it. We can only hope you end up the champion. 👍

And finally, here is one to all of us for getting to witness what was truly a wonderful year of Formula 1 (and for putting up with my overly long post 👍). If only the Stepneygate scandal 👎 had not occurred, then it really could not have been a better year. 👍

Inquiry casts doubt on F1 title
BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld leads Lewis Hamilton during the Brazilian Grand Prix
BMW's cars held up Hamilton during the race
Kimi Raikkonen's world title has been thrown into doubt following an inquiry into the cars of BMW Sauber and Williams at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Race stewards are investigating alleged irregularites with the cars' fuel.

Williams's Nico Rosberg was fourth in the race, followed by BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld.

If they were disqualified, McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton would be promoted to fourth, giving him enough points to displace Raikkonen as world champion.

The 22-year-old Englishman went into the race leading the title chase, but finished only seventh after a series of problems.

He dropped down to eighth on the first lap after running off the road trying to pass team-mate Fernando Alonso.

And then on lap eight he dropped to the tail of the field when his gearbox slipped into neutral, costing him 40 seconds before it started to work again.

Raikkonen led home team-mate Felipe Massa in a Ferrari one-two to clinch the title by one point from Hamilton.

Alonso finished on the same points as Hamilton, but the Spaniard was classified as third on countback.

The problem that could yet see Hamilton installed as the first man to win the title in his first season is a fuel temperature irregularity on the Williams and BMW Sauber cars.

A statement from the sport's governing body, the FIA, said the fuel in the cars was "more than [the permitted] 10 degrees below the ambient temperature".

The statement said Heidfeld's fuel was 13C lower than ambient at his first stop and 12C lower at his second.

Kubica's varied by 14C, 13C and 13C at his three stops, while Rosberg's was 13C and 12C out at his two stops.

Filling the car with cooler fuel can give a performance advantage.

Cooler fuel is denser, so either it can mean it takes slightly less time to refuel the car or marginally more can be added in the same time.

And it would give a slight power advantage for about three laps before it returned to ambient temperature out on the track.

Excluding the cars would risk turning one of the most exciting championship finales in F1 history into a farce.

But if the cars are found to have run fuel below the legal temperature, the stewards might feel obliged to disqualify them, even though the advantage conferred would almost certainly have had no bearing on the title race.

The total advantage for each car over the race distance was almost certainly no more than a second.

However, there is a precedent that could be used by race stewards not to exclude them.

In 1995, the Benetton-Renault of Michael Schumacher and the Williams-Renault of David Coulthard were initially disqualified from first and second places in the Brazilian Grand Prix because their fuel did not conform to samples approved by the FIA.

But a week later the FIA reinstated the drivers' points but docked the teams their constructors' points.

In that case, though, no advantage was gained by the irregularity.

so its not the first time and the there wasn't a big advantage I would say 1 sec over race distance is hardly and advantage

1 sec overall or 1 sec per lap over a race distance?

see the first line in bold from the BBC article, it says 1 sec over RACE distance, and this cooler temp would only work for the first laps after a pitstop and not the whole race

If there is a penalty i think it will be a time penalty.
20 seconds maybe? What would that do to the title?

if they only gained 1 sec over race distance why should they be penlized by 20 sec? I'm guessing they would do what they did to Shummy and DC remove constructor points , and slap them with a fine maybe? and leave the drivers alone at least thats what they did with McMerc this season lol

Hmmm. I would've thought the performance gains would be greater, otherwise why bother?

It's a farce that they're so fussed about 2-3 degrees of irregularity. If it was qualifying, I'd understand... But it didn't affect even any others, since the three were fighting on their own.

Hmmm. I would've thought the performance gains would be greater, otherwise why bother?

Exactly, it looks too much like an ordinary mistake.

Hmmm. I would've thought the performance gains would be greater, otherwise why bother?

as I said earlier I'm guessing its more of a screwup by the supplier or something going wrong rather than attempt to cheat

Yes. If they're DQ'ed, Hamilton will effectively have finished 5th, and therefore be crowned champion.
I really hope not. Not simply because it's Hamilton winning, but because it'll end the season on the same note as it had been for most of the year: excellent racing undermined by people thorwing the rule book at one another. I that if it has to come to penalites, I hope they just get time added on. According to this article the FIA have decided that the four cars are illegal. If they don't disqualify them, you can bet McLaren will launch an appeal.

Of course, it would be a pretty hollow victory for Hamilton.

But still they take these things very seriously. I think they should leave it as it is and hand Kimi the championship, but it would be an intresting twist.

Do you race?'s sig
Quench my thirst with gasoline ...
So give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire!

But make sure its not a few degrees higher.

its weird that BMW has yet to post anything on their website , last thing they have in news section is "situation prior to Brazilian GP", they must be waiting on verdict to come in

Q: (Andrea Cremonesi – La Gazzetta dello Sport) In your first season with Ferrari you have won the championship – only Fangio has done this before. How do you feel to be compared to this great champion? And how is your feeling to see McLaren beaten in the last race, the team you were with for five years?

KR: Like I said before, I enjoyed every moment with the team. I enjoy Formula One more this year than the last few years for many reasons, but not because of the driving – for other reasons. And I am more than happy to win the championship with Ferrari, especially the first year with the team has been a great year overcoming all difficulties and giving me such a nice big family and great people to work with – and I would rather win with them than with anybody else.

Kimi is awesome, Ferrari is awesome, 2007 F1 Championship has been awesome

I wouldn't change a thing!

AND THE STEWARDS BETTER NOT EITHER

BMW Sauber and Williams will not be penalised despite discrepancies in their fuel sample temperatures during the Brazilian Grand Prix, the race stewards said.

Fuel samples taken from both cars of both teams during their pitstops in Sunday's race showed temperature degrees outside the permitted variation.

Article 6.5.5 of the Formula One technical regulations states: "No fuel on board the car may be more than ten degrees centigrade below ambient temperature."

FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer said all fuel samples from the four cars showed temperature of 12 to 14 degrees centigrate lower than the ambient temperature at the time.

However, after deliberations at Interlagos, the race stewards decided not to penalise the teams, confirming the race results of the Brazilian Grand Prix as official.

This means Kimi Raikkonen is confirmed as the 2007 world champion.

Phew..

But make sure its not a few degrees higher.
If I were an F1 driver - or a race driver - of any kind, that would be my theme song, I think. It just gets me pumped up.

So I can stop holding my breath the way I have been for the past hour? (I only really just got up; first thing I did was check the race result ...)
