GP of Brazil 2007

It didn't end the way I wanted, but that was one damn good race! Very enjoyable. Nice way to finish the season. 👍

So McLaren gets pinged in a big way for breaking the rules, yet BMW and Williams get away with it. Talk about being consistent when it comes to enforcing the rules

Although I didn't particulary want Kimi to win, I congratulate him - after all, going into Brazil seven points down, and to pull a (virtual) miracle, 👍 But you have to feel for Lewis, to lead the championship since May, have a four point lead going into the final race only to lose by one point due to mechnical dramas... tough luck kid.

Nakajima FTW 👍

GP Update is reporting that while Williams and BMW are not being penalised, McLaren is expected to appeal the decision. I notice no-one else is doing that ...

I say McLaren (and Ron Dennis for the matter) just shut up and give up. No need to appeal on something so minute. The performance of the fuel would probaly be only a second of pace over the ENTIRE race distance. They are only able to get a gain on the first few laps after they fuel, and with only a few degrees, the gains are minimal. So why bother? Stop whining Ron, and better luck next season.

So why bother?
Because they didn't win. And they'll believe it's in the spirit of the rules given that they were penalised.

So to all the conspiracy theorists out there who belive the FIA was elping Hamilton win the title ... how exactly did they achieve that?

What the.....i just came back from school to read this? 🤬! I miss out on a lot of things to say. first things first, the race. Well i got to say i really enjoyed watching it through the night. It was very memorable, just reminiscent of the golden age of F1 (damn, i'm too 🤬 up after school to remember what to say....:guilty:) Well an excellent race none the less. Congrats to Kimi for a hard fought race. The McLaren were good and supposed to match the Ferrari's but because of a fierce rivalry and bad pit stop judgements, they lost everything.....well i'll continue after this....

Now i got a few things to say about my fellow members:
<_Spike_> : Too bad Hamilton lost. Well i guess that must have really broken your heart really....(and i'm very bothered, after i read all the comments, he didn't even say one thing! Must be really sorrowing not to go online.....)
darkfinal : Too bad Alonso lost, but it wasn't really his fault. He really got outpaced by the Ferrari's (even by BMW!) Well i hope if he is really leaving McLaren, hope he really feels better about himself....
(or kiss and make up and stay in McLaren. But that is very unlikely.... :indiff:)
Greycap : Congrats my friend, Kimi pulled of a miracle win. He really deserved to win 👍 Well not its time to celebrate and party and swear all you want in Finnish. V**** P******!!!!!

Im not mocking anyone here, just wanted to say how i feel about the die hard members who supported their drivers throughout the season. (and share their passion :))

But really, it was all Ron Dennis fault. Sure it was great for them to be on top again after a disappointing few seasons. But he just didn't manage the team as well as Jean Todd even with the spy scandal and conflicts. By having no Number 1 driver in the team, it really 🤬 up the team. I know why Alonso did get pretty angry when Ron didn't want to have a NO. 1 driver in the team. With the team split into two, surely something can go wrong. In the end, its the team with the best teamwork that seems to win. Hamilton did a great job as a rookie, but he can go only as far as a rookie can. Ron really should have chosen Gary Parfett as Alonso's teammate and Hamilton as a test driver. That way there is an even balance within the team and that they can cooperate with each other (as well as develop and mature Hamilton to be a good F1 driver)

I know, its good for Hamilton to be racing instead of a test driver. But like all rookies, no matter how good they are, they are just not prepared in terms of experience and maturity. Having a multiple world champion and a talented young rookie in a team just never mix, you know. There would always be friction. Well i do hope Ron would learn from his mistakes (again....) and try to build up a team which is more stable. Now i start too see why Ferrari is so successful. Not only their history in F1, but the sheer passion for the team and their tifosi. I can never imagine any other team as popular in F1 as Ferrari. I don't really support anyone in F1, i just love to watch and just enjoy what they are doing on the track with the most technologically advanced car in any motorsport. But i hate Ferrari because they just win too many times (and i know many would agree) and makes F1 boring. Well not anymore. Now i have a new found respect for Ferrari.
*goes off to make a new thread and do some impressive photoshopping :D*

Now that was a race. Woooooooo!! I can’t believe it. What a race, what a season, what a driver. :D

I can’t believe the fight back, Kimi did such a good job all year despite all his difficulties with the Ferrari’s TC system, their wind tunnel dramas, and the reliability woes the car had. He is truly the most deserving champion, and as a long time Kimi supporter I am so proud of him. I never thought this could happen. Lewis had two races to score 4 points, and somehow he didn’t do it.

Kimi did everything he had to this year. His late season surge has to be one of the most dramatic in F1 history and I’m still having trouble believing what has happened. He is one of the fastest drivers ever, and today he finally gets the accolades he deserves. I will be wearing my Ferrari hat proudly and I cannot wait to cheer our new champion at the Australian GP next season!

Congratulations Kimi Matias Räikkönen!

26 points less at the half of the championship.... a great recovery... a great car... cool driver... excellent team... in a word: FERRARI.

don't want to offend nobody... McLaren is a great team too, but this year they had something italian in their car...

justice overcame, with 44 secs advantage on Alonso by the Maranello Reds.

let this Italian guy express a bit of pride!

Disclaimer: This post is a long one and I apologize for it. It is an overview of my thoughts of today's race and of the entire year.

Can we not just let Kimi celebrate his very long overdue championship? A championship should not be decided off the track, but instead on the track like what was done today. Kimi and Ferrari did everything they could to win the race and the championship and very much deserve to celebrate what has occurred at Sao Paulo. 👍

Before I posted today, I wanted to take a little time to let the fact that Kimi had managed to win the race and all of his opposition finished in the right spot for him to win the championship settle in. But now this stuff comes up and could potentially ruin what ended up being a wonderful way to finish an extremely exciting year 👎, especially considering I have been a long time Kimi Raikkonen fan.

Having said that, beautiful drive today by Kimi! He did what he needed to do to win the championship. 👍 Before his second pit stop, he ran fast lap after fast lap to get in front of Massa, though I think he may have had a little help from Massa and the team on that one; yet, we may never know. Either way, it was still a great effort! 👍 Massa drove a wonderful race today in support of Kimi's title chase and I am very happy that he was so very willing to help his teammate's chance on winning the driver's championship, as his performance was the very definition of a good teammate.

On the day, Ferrari were just unstoppable and it would be a real shame to take Kimi's title away on a day in which both he and his teammate were so utterly dominate. No one else in the race had a chance to catch either of the Ferraris.

McLaren have had a wonderful year and will always be in my mind the Constructor's Champion for the year, even though Ferrari have technically won it. I don't really understand how a team can have their points revoked, but yet the drivers are still allowed to compete. So to me, I will always remember McLaren as the Constructor's Champion for the wild and wacky year of 2007 in Formula 1.

Hamilton drove brilliantly all year, especially considering his rookie status, and could have easily finished the year as the Driver's Champion (and could potentially still on a technicality 👎). It helped the entire year that he was in one of the two best cars for the entire year; but no matter how good the car is, the driver still has to effectively utilize it and Hamilton did so very well. I look forward to watching him continue to grow in his abilities in Formula 1 and fully expect him to win at least one Driver's Championship before all is said and done, though that is not to say I will not be rooting against him though (so long as Kimi is still in F1). All the while, I will enjoy seeing such an exceptional young talent consistently competing for race wins.

As much as I do not like Alonso for his whining, he drove very well the entire year. I have to give it up to him for being so very talented and constantly doing his best to keep himself in the race for the Driver's Championship. He is a talented driver and utilizes his skills very well come race day. If he could clean up his off the track antics, mainly the whining, then I could probably warm a little towards him.

BMW have been the definitive third best team on the year and here's to hoping they can take that and build on it next year. During the Canadian GP and Robert Kubica's crash, I was very much concerned for his health, as his wreck was very much a nasty one; being he basically just walked the wreck off is amazing and a testament to the improvements in the safety of today's cars.

Renault had an up and down year and today was no exception to that. Hopefully they can bounce back and Heikki can continue his strides in becoming a top tier driver.

Nico Rosberg had a nice race today and a nice year. Yet again, hopefully he can continue to become a better driver and pull Williams back up in the Constructor's race, as Williams truly belong near the top and it is somewhat saddening to see them finish fourth (really fifth if McLaren are not excluded).

Red Bull and STR finished the year strongly and with Adrian Newey at the helm, should be able to take that momentum into next year and build on it. Hopefully, Newey can develop a car that will be more reliable, as I am getting tired of seeing a retirement from Mark Webber. I have basically accepted Mark Webber to be a retirement in every race, as it seems he never finishes a race.

Toyota and Honda are both way off and I think will continue to be there until they find an exceptionally talented driver to drive for them. Each team has drivers that are solid number two drivers, but not up to the task of being a number one.

Super Best Friends had a good year netting four points and I can only hope next year they can continue getting those good results. It is always good to see one of the teams at the back do well.

I cannot really say much about Spyker, really how can you when they have a new team name each week (okay, maybe each year . . . either way, they have a new name too often). Never really paid much attention to them, though Adrian Sutil was impressive at times and should be moving to a better team next year.

Overall, it was an amazing year that came down to the last race between three drivers. One came in today with virtually no realistic chance at winning the championship and managed to pull it out, one shot to stardom in his first year, and the other battled fiercely until the end. Hopefully, some technicalities will not ruin today's results and put another smudge on a year in which too much smudges have happened.

Congratulations to McLaren! On what should be their championship and their excellent competition.

Congratulations to Ferrari! This has to do more with their effort and results today.

Congratulations Kimi! It is long overdue and you truly deserve it. We can only hope you end up the champion. 👍

And finally, here is one to all of us for getting to witness what was truly a wonderful year of Formula 1 (and for putting up with my overly long post 👍). If only the Stepneygate scandal 👎 had not occurred, then it really could not have been a better year. 👍

Quoted for the Truth.

Despite what some may say about the FIA's rulings, they were driven not by a desire to fix the championship for any one person (cough cough, Lewis), but to ensure that instead of having a long drawn out technical court battle, we would be able to watch an exciting season.

No driver penalties in the spy row (let's decide the driver's championship on track). No driver penalties due to tires (same!). No penalties for BMW (which would have given LH the championship... same!)

I hate what Alonso did the Hamilton in the opening turn... but then again, they're racing for the crown, and all's fair in war. But in the end, his gamble didn't pay off... but still, it was a well-played gambit by the two veterans.

Poor LH... a disappointing end to a dream season. But still, a wonderful drive when he got the car working again, and he carved through the field like a madman. Too bad the pitstop gamble didn't really pay off.

Bravo Kimi! No longer to be called the "Kurse", the man who was never champion finally is. While he was lucky that Alonso and McLaren's technical gremlins (two things that cost him two championships from 2005-2006) hampered Lewis, his drive in Brazil was undeniably brilliant, on the edge, and totally focused. He never let up, even when it seemd absolutely sure he would win.

I can't wait for 2008. Suddenly, F1 is actually fun again!

Just pick up on this point.

I think the advantage those 3 cars had was minimal, but they did break the rules, I think the team should be fined, we have to show some kind of consistency in F1 otherwise what's the point in having rules if you can break them and go unpunished?

Wasn't there an FIA observer in the McLaren pit to ensure Hamilton and Alonso were given equal treatment?

Begs the question why there wasn't one in the Ferrari pit to ensure that Raikonnen wasn't jumped past Massa in his pit stops...

Also agree with Famine's comments.

And why wasn't there and FIA observer at the Spyker garage, maybe they have been hampering Yamamoto's car all year long? For all you know Yamamoto is the next Schumacher...

Because Ron was the only one wanting to prove a point.

Congratulations Kimi Matius Räikkönen!

How dare you, it's Matias. :)

Don't be silly, team orders are illegal, Ferrari don't do illegal.

That's sarcastic btw ;)

Quotes from the story as reported by SkySports:

Carlos Garcia
"Yes, it's true that the FIA will have a steward making sure that nothing wrong happens to Fernando, especially in qualifying, which is where there have been more complaints or strange situations in the last few grands prix,"

FIA spokesperson
Meanwhile, the FIA has confirmed that it will appoint an official to ensure Alonso gets equal treatment in Brazil.

"We can confirm that the FIA is in the process of appointing a special scrutineer for the Brazilian Grand Prix," a spokesman said.

The FIA went to great lengths to ensure Alonso was getting fair treatment from his team. Somehow they missed the Ferraris swapping places during their pit stops.

Incidentally, I have no gripes about that - just that the FIA seem to be unaware of the concept of consistency.
