Greetings all

Well the 4hr events that were a lead-up to the 24hr race are done and now I am unleashing a new beast upon you all :scared:

C.R.A.P GT300 Endurance Series

Cars will be in the GT300 class, with one or two omissions, with drivers able to choose their vehicle from the list provided in this OP when I put it up after testing.

CAR LIST - GT300 class

  1. Toyota Wedsport Celica
  2. Lexus Wedsport IS350
  3. Mazda Ameniya RX-7
  4. Subaru "CUSCO" Impreza
  5. Autobacs Garaiya

The races will increase in length with the first race 2 hours, or thereabouts, and increasing each race until the final race being 4 hours on the Nurb 4 hour circuit (Type V)

RACE LIST AND SCHEDULE:

  1. Race 1: Laguna Seca - 2hrs - Winner: Micantony
  2. Race 2: Daytona Road - 2.5hrs - Winner: PluxTheDuck
  3. Race 3: Spa Franchorchamps - 3hrs - EVENT TIME CONVERTER LINK and WEATHER FORECAST PAGE FOR SPA
  4. Race 4: Le Sarthe (no chicanes) - EVENT TIME CONVERTER LINK and WEATHER FORECAST PAGE FOR SARTHE
  5. Race 5: Nurburgring Type V - 4 hours - EVENT TIME CONVERTER LINK and WEATHER FORECAST PAGE FOR NURBURGRING

*** Please note that I used Reykjavik (Iceland) as the converted time location (at top of page) as it is GMT, I was unable to select GMT for some reason :indiff: ***

Also, the last race has been brought forward an hour so it finishes at 02:30GMT and not 03:30

REGULATIONS:

Laps: Calculated according to track - TBC
Start: Rolling start for all races
Boost: Off
Penalties: Off - To avoid unrealistic ghosting
Race Finish: Maximum
Visible Damage: Off - This will hopefully assist with connections.
Mechanical Damage: HEAVY This is not to be taken lightly, serious drivers only need apply.
Slipstream: Weak
Grip Reduction: Real
Tyre and Fuel Wear: On
BHP limit: 325BHP
Weight Restrictions: 1125kg minimum
Tuning: Unrestricted
Tyre Restriction:

  1. Race 1: Laguna Seca - No tyre restrictions
  2. Race 2: Daytona Road - Tyres restricted to RM or RH Compound.
  3. Race 3: Spa - Tyres restricted to RH Compound.
  4. Race 4: Le Sarthe - Tyres restricted to RM or RH Compound.
  5. Race 5: Nurburgring Type V - Tyres restricted to RM or RH Compound.

Driving Aids: ALL AIDS OFF EXCEPT ABS RESTRICTED TO 1 or 0
Microphones: Disabled
Race Quality: Low or possibly Standard
Disconnection policy: Disconnections = Engine failure, no points are awarded.
Blend Line ruling: ALL drivers MUST observe the blend line in ALL pit stops. this is vital on some tracks and can cause some serious headaches for other drivers. The blend Line is the line dividing the racing part of the track and the pit lane, please ensure you remain in the pit lane until the Blend Line ends.

QUALIFYING: 30 minute qual sessions, if you're late then you must enter pits and await race control to direct you to begin. if you do not post a time then you start at end of grid.

POINTS SYSTEM:

Drivers will be awarded points to the same value as their finishing position so 1st gets 1 point, 2nd gets 2 points etc. At the end of the series the winner will be the entrant with the LEAST amount of points. in the instance of a tie the tied drivers will rochamboe each other for the win.... err, actually no I think not! Tied drivers will race 3 laps of Monza in a tuning prohibited race in the same car they have used for the series so I suggest you all get a second one just in case...

General questions:

Q:
I have a general question for Bossman. Are any of the last 3 races (Spa, Le Sarth, Nurb) going to be 'Change Weather' and if yes, how will you determine the settings?

A:
Heathenpride
They will be yes, all conditions will be set to be as close as possible to the real world weather at those tracks on the day of the race.

I will default set the changeability to 3 as it is the setting I find to be most consistent with changing weather patterns.

Unless of course the RL weather is a torrential downpour with no chance of changing, then it will be set to 0 :scared:

Yes, I would be intertested. I work away on a 8/6 and 4/3 roster. That means I am away for 8 days and at home for 6 or away for 4 days and home for 3. I do have some flexibility to arrange a change of roster if the dates are posted early enough.

Interest. In a word: "Finally!"

Many have tried to make a VLN Series. I've tried to join every single one.

This one will happen mate, I have the resources to get it going but first I need drivers.

Plux, sorry mate but even though it would be interesting there'll be no teams for this one, going to keep it as simple as possible for now 👍

Well that's not good, I cannot see who voted?

Can those who voted please send me a PM confirming your interest and all future interested people please PM me too.

Thanks guys

I am interested as well. I have been thinking of such things myself, the endurance every month or so bit. However, you're residence in Australia could potentially disrupt my contention in this series. Connections and all.

Connection with me won't be a problem mate, the group I run has a global member base and we rarely have such issues plus my internet is the fastest residential net in Aus and the quality is good too.

In the 24hr online race my team was the only team to not get at least one disconnect.

If you want to meet up in a lounge and race we can test it out, just let me know.

Sounds good. I have a great connection as well, but some of you down there have iffy connections and things get weird. Anytime I'm in an Australian or New Zealand server I would get disconnected after first place passed the finish line. Every. Time. But this will hopefully work out. :)

That is weird, send me a FR on PSN mate and we can test it out :)

I voted.

Also, I've done stuff with Aussies before; I'm actually currently in Canada, and Canada's connection is AWESOME. :)

As for the teams thing, that Plux mentioned, it'd be EPIC, but, I don't want to even TRY to entrust a teammate with driving about for 4 hours.

Yes it is indeed a whole other monster with teams and I am not willing to do that yet, I want to get a list of drivers then qualify (if there's too many) and then set the races up and go from there, I think with 3 months in between it gives all entrants time to practice in their cars but also allows them enough time to do other stuff on GT5 so it won't interfere with other series or commitments and if it does then we all have enough notice to deal with it.

If folks aren't able to make a race then that is fine because I am trying to establish a long term series here so the important thing for the first one is not to be a nazi regarding points etc but instead to get a good driver base and then progress to a more rigid structure if it is something drivers are good with.

Perhaps one event of the year could be a team event and those teams can be assigned randomly? That would be interesting but is not a consideration just yet 👍

As I said before, I'm personally against teammates in endurance events, because, let's face it, if you have teams, you have team championships, and then, should the other teammate get bored halfway through, and quit, both drivers lose points, in the Team's championship. It'd be no longer fair to the driver who stays.

As for the randomly assigning teams for one event, that'd be quite interesting. If I may offer a suggestion of a really brilliant idea I just had:

Why not put the drivers in first/last positions on a team together, then the 2nd/15th drivers, etc. together?

I don't mean to assume that there will be points, but, there will certainly be drivers who finish well, and some who don't often finish as well. Putting the fastest and slowest drivers on a team, COULD eliminate the "car performance" variable, AND could allow the slower driver to learn from the faster driver.

Wow, I really "LOVE" this idea only thing.... is it going to be US friendly?

It will be open to all and will be on a Saturday afternoon for USA by my calculations.

Updating OP today with all race details. In order to register for this event you must do so by replying to this thread and specifying that you wish to register for the first race which is Sunday 28 October at 7am here in South Australia and is +9.5 GMT.

Stay tuned for the specific details in the OP.

Thank you

OP UPDATED WITH THE FOLLOWING:

THIS SERIES IS PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY C.R.A.P AND WURKS.CO.CA AND IS ALSO A CELEBRATION OF THE FIRST BIRTHDAY OF THE C.R.A.P GT5 CASUAL RACING GROUP

Greetings all

Anyone not familiar with the VLN can head here for a most wiki like breakdown.

Races will be 4 hours but set to a certain lap count so that the races actually finish.

The first race will be the same regs as the upcoming 24hr online race in Feb meaning 404BHP, 1100kg and each car must have the Gran Turismo logo on the windshield.

In the 24hr race in Feb there were a number of teams and drivers that simply failed to turn up without any notification, this will not be tolerated in this event so if you are not able to commit to 4 hours then don't bother.

Rage quitters need not apply, if you rage quit you will be expelled from the remaining season without notice, I have too much going on and have no desire to negotiate with impatient fools so if you are a rage quitter you can walk away now.

So with the nasty stuff out of the way I welcome those entrants who are willing to drive in a 4 hour endurance series :) The events will be hard, make no mistake about that, but will also be rewarding so despite the inevitable hardships you will also take so much from this series.

So, without further ado I give you the date, regulations and car list for the first race:

There is one more Caveat for non CRAP members:

Over at CRAP we have been training furiously to obtain an endurance race license for this event because this was originally conceived to be the last race of a month of celebration of a year passing since CRAP was conceived. Since then however I have worked with the Wurks guys and now we will be presenting it as a joint venture.

This presents a slight problem with my CRAP members who have worked furiously to pass specific lap times for the event in order to qualify for it.

In order to remain fair to them I am allowing only a limited number of spots for this first race for non CRAP members, you can expect probably 8 CRAP members to participate so there will be only 8 spots for non members.

If more than 8 register for it then we will hold a qualifying session where all non members will lap at race conditions and the fastest will progress to the event proper.

The following races will not be subject to the above CRAP related restrictions, only the October race.

Any questions please PM me 👍

Also, I will not entertain rule changes from the above so don't post anything telling me that I need to make changes. Also, the car list is subject to changes at my discretion.

Thanks guys, I am really looking forward to this :)

Added quali info to OP:

QUALIFYING: Begins at 07:15 for 30 minutes - 1 out lap, 1 hot lap then park vehicle in run-off area to the left of the 'esses'

Sounds good Heathenpride. :) Are there different classes? The Schulze Motorsport GT-R is much faster than the car I would choose.

At this stage no but that only stands for the first race. After the first race I will review everything and that includes a possible multi class introduction and possibly team racing.

Fact is with events like this it is common sense to run the first one basic then learn from it and introduce new things for the next races if appropriate.

Bear in mind that this is not however a guarantee that these things will be implemented, but I will consider them.

Also, do not forget that all drivers must now register by posting in this thread by saying something to the effect of "I am in, please register me" 👍

The shultze? Yes it is a great car indeed, not my choice but still a great car :)

Okay. So, there's no "you may NOT do this" to your cars?

I will consider a car that I'm very familiar with, as, over the course of four hours, the car with which a driver's the most familiar, should be the car of choice; the likelihood of a mistake will be lessened.

However, I'll need as much HP & torque as possible, as the car's not really as fast as the Schulze Motorsport GT-R. I won't complain, I'll just do what I can to minimize the difference, and see about competing at an even level.

Correct, the rules as per my post stand unless I change them but I won't do that without providing an exact explanation,

Anyone who has never participated in a true endurance race needs to read this statement at least a hundred times... It is as true as anything I can pen myself and the fact that you wrote it tells me that you are someone that I can trust to see this to the end, well said mate.

However, I'll need as much HP & torque as possible, as the car's not really as fast as the Schulze Motorsport GT-R. I won't complain, I'll just do what I can to minimize the difference, and see about competing at an even level.

As you said mate there is no real right or wrong. If you come last but never leave the track then you have indeed won your own race.

Car choice is not everything... What point is there in choosing a sketchy "fast" car over a "safe" slower car when the end result of losing control is a slam into the unforgiving wall of the nurb? Rest assured that at least one entrant will find themselves heavily damaged 20km from the pits and wondering where they went wrong... It is this driver that will be prone to rage quitting, perhaps if they try to balance speed with reliability then they will end up faring better.

As a man who has driven 24hrs online I can tell you that any other way is nearly guaranteed to end in folly so be wary indeed...

Okay. I'm in, with the Lancer Evo X. I've been working with it since 2009. I've sat in them, and they're awesome cars. The TC version's just a slightly improved version.

HP, I wish to confirm my entry in this VLN race, one which I have a hard time pronoucing... Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal ?

Hi Heathenpride,

I'm willing to try your event. It will be a challange for me and it fits my calender well (work and family...).
I'm not a fast driver so I'm in for the fun of it, if that's ok. :)

I will come back with my choice of car and colour.

Heathenpride,

I am also in if there is a place available.
The quali should start 22:30 my time, so it will be a looong night, but I like a challenge!

No idea about the car, color will be orange :).

Cheers,
Cobani
