"The holy grail of Australian motor sport"

bathurst-1000.jpg

-2008-

With only '00 day' to go until the green flag drops on Australia's most celebrated motor sport event in 2009. You can be assured that every Aussie motor sport fan will have an opinion on who, could, should or will win this iconic motor sport event in 2009.

"HOLDEN" or "FORD"

The odds are against them winning a 4th consecutive title, but they are probably the favourites with the bookies.

Tander and Davidson will keep them honest, just as they did at Phillip Island. Anything could go awry, as the last enduro did for them.

There are other top driver combos, that are well in it too.
1000km at any track, let alone Bathurst, is a invitation for mechanical and brain failure.

God, I hate working on weekends. I'm going to have to record most of this round, same with the Japanese GP this weekend. :(

Is that track map new? So many name changes to corners, most notably Forrest Elbow to Falken Elbow.:odd:

Hi there to all Bathurst Fans, as the tension builds it's always obvious that everyone has there own take on whats going to come from all the preparation leading up to this, The Greatest Race of the Australian Motor Sport Calender. And as we all know anything is possible!...or maybe Impossible at "THE MOUNTAIN" so good luck to all teams this year.:)

GO HOLDEN.!! :sly:

Is that track map new? So many name changes to corners, most notably Forrest Elbow to Falken Elbow.:odd:
Yeah I think it's a new map for this year Paul, although I haven't heard of any changes to corners or run-off areas sooo!... I'd just put it down to someones poor rendition of the track lay out. :sly:

No, the map is the same, I simply meant corner names have changed.

I never though Forest Elbow would change, it's been Forest Elbow for as long as I can remember.

PS- I LOL'ed at "Holden Skyline", it just doesn't sound right.:P

Yeah!.. :odd: There has been a few comments in the media about the naming of the "Holden Skyline"

What where they thinking???

Brock's Skyline has a much better ring to it, IMHO. ;)

Also, how about adding this to the track maps that you already have? :)

Well I'm going for slight outsider this year. They have been very close and well on the pace for the last 3-4 years, and with some bad luck aswell.

GRM

I agree zed, GRM is definitely in the mix of things :sly:. and of course the "The Mountain" is well known as a car breaker. So as usual it comes down to attrition rates at the end of the day!

Also, how about adding this to the track maps that you already have? :)

Sure CAM, can you send me a bigger version of the pic you've posted, and I'd be more than happy to :).

Click on his pic PAPA, it has a large enough image there.

GRM winning Bathurst would be awesome, them and HRT are my favourite teams.:) GRM has a new livery now too, for the first time in as many years.

Yer the livery is for a Valvoline product..... can't think what it is right now ...I'll get back with it.

Ok got it now Zerex, dunno what it does or what it's for but:dunce:

Zerex is Valvoline's line of coolant products or something.

Done 👍 Thanks for the pic CAM, it's a great Birdseye view of Mount Panorama.

And also for this very interesting info you posted on last years thread just before I closed it yesterday....

So guys, what do you think of Bathurst getting a second track configuration? Maybe they want to use it for the 500 km Enduro as well?

Story with track photo posted on TouringCarTimes

The Stig coming to drive at Bathurst?

The Sydney Morning Herald-July 22
Some say he is the anonymous driver called "the Stig" on popular motoring show Top Gear. All we know is he's competing in this year's V8 Supercar endurance races.

Jack Daniel's Racing on Wednesday announced English endurance racing specialist Ben Collins will pair up with veteran Nathan Pretty in the team's No.15 Holden for the annual endurance races at Bathurst and Phillip Island.

Collins, a professional stunt driver, has long been rumoured to be the Stig, with English newspaper The Telegraph claiming he had mistakenly outed himself in January.

The show fiercely guards the identity of the Stig and it's believed Collins could be sacked if he did admit he was the popular character

Great thread Papa!
Have already warned the family to vacate the premises for race day.

My pick for the win would be Murph & Skaife (would not be a kiwi if I didn't pick that!)

Didn't Ben Collins race at the L&H 500, too?

Yes, he was signed to drive in both events.:)

Thanks joe, "Bathurst race day", is treated like Christmas Day in our house we have family and friends visit, with plenty of food and cold beers flowing "all day" :).

Don't forget to vote guy's.👍

Yes The Stig Collins raced at Phillip Island too, he's been confirmed for some time as the date of your article shows.

All you need now is a large screen TV projection setup somewhere for the guests to watch the race.:D Dunno if you have the room in the house for it though...

Well of course the Wheel-setup will have to be moved out of the the middle of the lounge room.........

...:D

I think?

Yes Mate 1968 👍
Bloody good year that
327 Monaro HK's, and me.

No seriously, the HK on pole looks to have had an ok start, but the XT GT from the 2nd row already looking for a hole, has got the jump. So has another Falcon testing the grip on the grass strip down the outside.

Oh, I think I'll drop in for a beer and a steak too mate.:D

Still looks like the Team Vodafone entry is the strongest.....

The deal with Ben Collins is that when he first got in a V8 supercar he was only 1 second of the pace, but you could argue that he's driven TOCA or DTM but i find that amazing!!!

I still remember a few years back when me and my dad had an arguement over the Ambrose-Murphy crash that blocked the area just before Holden Skyline.

What's more important to you guys? Melbourne Cup or Bathurst 1000? For me it's Bathurst without hesitation but I wonder how others around here feel?
