Maybe Prisonermonkey believes that the Red Bull car was vastly superior to the rest of the field, so Vettel's superiority over other drivers (alongside with Webber, even though Webber is nowhere near Vettel in the Championship standing) was never in doubt to clich the title.

The only thing that made this race (and others) harder to follow was the usual terrible coverage...

Always trying to find people, drama, pretty shots and missing lots of action, then using replays to catch, losing more and making us lose track of what IS happening.

Not the easiest races to cover this year. Still, if this is top motor racing, deserves top tv direction/coverage.

I found the US GP was even WORSE at following the action than the Brazil coverage.

I was fuming at the director for the US GP during the first 10-15 laps, as it was obvious what was going to happen, then the camera would change to something else that wasn't going to happen, then suddenly go back to something that was developing into an overtake, that they had overtaken already!

This one, wasn't quite so ham-fisted.

Definitely one of the best parts of the race.

KIMI: LEAVE ME ALONE I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING!

Only way Alonso can win is if Vettel DNF. I don't see Vettel finishing less than 8th if he is still racing to the end of the race even if they put him at the back of the grid for some penalty or has to change his front wing or tires after the first lap. His car is just too fast even if Hamilton takes the win and Alonso 2nd. It would be nice to see Massa first and Alonso second with Vettel a DNF or less than 8th but that is asking a lot.

Pretty much as I predicted. Vettel is just too good of a driver with a very good car to lose unless his car breaks down and DNF. Happy for Massa, sad for Kobayashi (maybe Honda can buy HRT and get back in the Game, not). Kimi needs to lay off on the booze before the race or buy a good GPS for his F1 car. Farewell to Michael we are going to miss him and good luck to Hamilton. He is going to need it.

Well, I'm disappointed. On more than one level. I find Vettel to be an unworthy champion; just last week, he was whinging that he was "done" in Formula 1 this year because Karthikeyan held him up; this week, he's content to drive without pushing too hard once he has enough points to secure the championship.

I would also argue that the race was bad because there was far too much going on. I spent more time looking at the timing splits at the bottom of the page, trying to figure out who was where at any given moment, than I did at the actual racing. If I need to rewind parts of the race just to figure out what is going on, then I’d say there is too much going on. It stops being action and drama and starts being randomness.

Un-worthy? You don't like him because he whines, but Alonso is no better. That was your alternative. Not really sure how that makes him un-worthy.
Doing enough to score points is what a lot of champions do. Nothing wrong with that. But as said above, I would hardly describe Vettel's race as a cruise to the points he needed.

Too much action? I really can't agree with you at all there. Are you really complaining too much happened? Wow. I mean, that was one of the best races this year and you didn't like it because you couldn't keep track? I think either you don't watch much motorsport or you're too used to boring F1 races. Because I can't understand how you have this view that it was too much.

Every F1 race needs to be that action packed.

The race director really needs to improve, I really hate it when they cut to shots of someone in the garage when there is always something on track to see. I would rather see a shot of Karthikeyan than Alonso's girlfriend, Massa's dad or Helmut Marko.

Which are stills, and an eternity, while everyone waits for him to resume covering the race...

Those are great subjects to focus on and record their reactions and then replay them when it's safe. Not to focus on live, to see their reaction, when they are watching the tele and sudenly see themselves... What can you possibly expect them to do, that would be so interesting? Besides waving maybe...

Anyway, I hope 2013 is a good year and in 2014 we get the original bull rider in to F1:

Go Felix :D

Anyone know the crew that does the world feed? Some questionable choices.

I would be glad to see more of Karthikeyan.

Why is everyone so obsessed with complaining about Vettel whining?

I mean, what young champion, apart from the Fins, didn't go cocky or whiny after they had gotten a title? Alonso did it, Hamilton did it, Vettel did it. You win a title, you entitle yourself to more within a team, for some reason. Hamilton is without any doubt the worst of the bunch when it comes to this, but I guess this kind of behaviour comes with a title.

To be honest, Hamilton could be quite irritating back in the day and should have kept his lips sealed sometimes, but I think he's matured an awful lot since then and seems much more graceful about things, other drivers also included. On the other hand, I don't think Vettel has particularly improved in this manner, and probably the reason why a lot of people point his complaints out.

I followed the race without any problem, just watching one screen (no timings, red button, etc).

Indeed, this is one race I'm glad I didn't have Live Timing and Commentary on for. Blink and you'll miss something.

That said, I think the Race Director did an excellent job of trying to show a variety of things and following the action. With dozens of battles going on all at once, it's hard to decide which evolving situation will resolve itself within the next few seconds. We can all gripe, but this race was a monumental juggling act for the guy at the console. It was never going to be easy.

Disappointed to see Alonso lose WDC. But not sorely so. Vettel really had to work for this one. Ignoring for the moment that he has been his own worst enemy these past two races, he's had to push like hell to overcome these problems, and the team has had to pull like hell on that leash to keep him from driving that car off a cliff. That's dedication, on both ends.

Sure, Vettel may be the only driver on track with four team-mates (Schumacher-Vettel: ROC Team Germany), but while he benefitted from each just once or twice, Alonso had a team-mate who bounced up and down the order in order to block for him, sheperd him and ultimately, pull him up into second place. There may have been no more exhausted driver out there on raceday than Felipe Massa, and I'm happy for his podium.

Still, very anti-climatic at the end. But you can't blame that one on Red Bull. They made the right strategy calls, they ran a smart race. It's not their fault everyone else is so bloody bad at beating them.

Deserve or not, Vettel has put in the work needed to win the Championship, and for that he deserves kudos. As for Alonso, there's always next year...

How I see Vettel gaining 15+ positions in 10 laps.

He spins and gets damage.

Everyone else pits for Inters a bit early. Slower then they were by around 1s a lap. Vettel on his tyres in his car were faster by the tune of 1.5s a lap when everyone was on inters. And at that point of the race 1st to last were separated by around 20-25s. So gaining around 15s by tyre strategy.

I believe the decision to stay out is due to the fact he lost a lot of time and the team taking a punt and saying "Well we may as well chance it".

And fair play to them it worked. And that's my opinion on how he made up the positions. I may very well be wrong as there was so much going on, but that's what I made of it and I would be happy to find out how he actually did do it if I'm wrong.

Wow CRAP. Can someone that speaks German confirm this quote in this interview?

The interviewer poses the question starting from around 1:25 in that video.

Don't know the context exactly, or if he was trying to kid around... but damn, talk about kicking someone right in their heart when they're down.

Edit: Upon further review, yeah he was trying to keep it light but still a bit immature, but excusable considering the cloud he's on at the moment. He didn't mean anything malicious by it, just an immature comment.

Still, talk about insensitive.

Congratulations to Vettel, Alonso always has next year.

There needs to be a special rule here concerning "fanboys" just for wajdi1977

I don't really agree with the penalty given to Hulkenberg.

The penalty may just be harsh for Hulkenberg but he made the mistake and has accidentally taken out Hamilton in the process and put Hamilton's race to a stand still so in my opinion he deserve the penalty.

Congratulations to Vettel for the title yesterday. I would be happier if it was Alonso but in my opinion, both of them deserved their title, whoever wins. Despite the spin, Vettel worked his way around and it worked for him whilst Alonso had definitely tried his very best to get the title but it was just not enough.

Great season this has been. Hopefully next year will be better and boy this race really had me screaming out loud for most of the time. Haha!

This team certain will not be on the grid for 2013, i will miss them despite being the underfunded backmarker, they did a pretty good job for staying in F1 grid for the past seasons and challenged the Marussia/Virgin and Caterham/Lotus.

This is one of the memorable F1 overtake by Kimi and never-give-up-attitude Schumi. Millimeters perfect!

+1. Same here. Screaming out loud in the middle of the night.

They will, if they can secure a new buyer but for now, it seems like they're done. I have to say though, they have been impressive to stay in the game despite being in short, very short of money and able to make most out of it. I'm not sure if many will miss them but I will surely miss them. How quick it's been 3 years already for these 'new' teams..

Wow. What a way to end the season.
These past three races have all been fantastic.

Truly magnificent start by Massa and Alonso both. They did a great job of working together the entire race. Passing people together and all. Forget who it was on, but towards lap 10 or so Massa boxed somebody out and Alonso got by both of them. That was great.

Kimi. Talk about fail.

Paul couldn't you have botched it a lap or two earlier?

I feel bad for Hulk, but he was the one that lost. That took Hamilton's third in the drivers championship away AND McLaren's second in the manufacture's. Would have been great to see him win.

Glad to see Jenson get the win.

WTF Webber?

I am extremely disappointed to see Speed go. Buxton and Varsha both started to tear up a bit towards the end. Was very cool to hear Posey in the booth mid-race despite him not saying anything overly intelligent. Really going to miss his pre race intros. Those are always great. And I don't have NBC Sports. :scared: Hopefully my Internet can handle the streams.
That montage at the very end of the broadcast was VERY, VERY cool.

Must continue to have some dull races to appreciate the action packed races like this.

Surely there's some Chinese individual or corporate group willing to buy the HRT team. And they could probably make their parts cheaper too, getting a lot more from the 300m cap  (Actually this could cause a problem lol)

I think what's more amazing about the above picture is that Jenson managed to get into the podium driving the Honda.

Why have I not watched that show until now? That was hilarious. Also it might just be me, but I think I see some subtle refferences to Lewis Hamilton's move next season.

I think Prisonermonkeys is implying that he thought the race showed no skill.

And it was too random to clearly see whether there was good skill applied during the race or not.

Were we even watching the same race?

If you didn't spot the skill, then did whatever TV feed you were watching actually have any in-car views?

My feed had a hell of a lot of Vettel and Alonso on-board and frankly the skill they were showing was pretty amazing - Vettel was having to work his ass off behind Kobayashi. The feed stayed on board for a few laps in a row, as he spent most of the lap correcting slides etc. And ditto Alonso, who stayed out a lap too long on the dry tyres. He was pretty much drifting through the whole Curva do Sol corner, before it snapped on him on the exit and he still managed to catch it.

Or how about Button walking away from everyone on the changeable surface? Or how about Massa's two passes around the outside of other drivers into Descida do Lago? Or how about Alonso passing Massa while he passed Webber? Or Hamilton and Button's battle? Or Hamilton and Hulk's? Or a dozen others that went on throughout the race?

I can't help feeling that you deliberately say controversial things on occasion just to stir the pot.

Seeing a entire lap from the helicopter of Hulkenberg chasing Hamilton was amazing.

Agreed. It stood out particularly as I can't remember a similar view for a similarly close battle in quite a while - they really need to do that more often.

I agree, but it's also something that dims with age a little. Schumacher and Alonso were both terrible during their younger winning phase but both grew out of being a bit arrogant, cocky and annoying.

Vettel will grow out of it too, as will Hamilton I suspect. And to Vettel's credit, he always seems a little better in interviews than he does during the race. Incidentally, I think that Hamilton has been a lot more considered post-race in the latter half of this season - perhaps he's had enough slaps on the wrist to know when to moderate his tone.
