2014 engines: inline-fours out, turbo-charged V6 engines in

+1 if you listen to vettels radio after finishing 4th in the 2007 Chinese GP. He sounds like he is 5 yrs old and really sounds immature.:yuck:

Does that have anything to do with 2014 car regulations?

No, no it doesn't. Take your complaints about Vettel to the appropriate thread.

Personally I don't see it having made any sense to enter under the Bugatti name. It would be a marketing opportunity wasted for one of the other brands that could actually cash in on the exposure.

should be manual gearboxes and no abs! :D
What does any of this have to do with ENGINE regulation?
And the gearboxes aren't exactly "Automatic"...

Don't you just love it when new people come in to the Motorsport forums and have no idea what they are talking about?

They are Semi-Automatic as paddle shifters with no clutch required to shift.

It has everything to do with engines.

This type of gearbox is supposed to make it impossible to over rev the engine.

The engine therefore is made to much finer tolerances than would be possible with a manual gearbox which have to be able to handle missed shifts.

manual = clutch + stick.....
semiauto = paddle....

don't know about you but thats my take on a manual gearbox....

oh and I've been a member since 2007......so I'm not THAT new, and I'm very lazy to write anything on forums

this is a gaming forum after all. Even in most dedicated f1 forums 90% of people have no clue whatsoever.

I expected news..

P.U.R.E engine supplier has supplied us with an computer-generated image of their new V-6 turbo motor.

How about posting that F1fanatic link first...

There is some reference to the costs concerns here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/99976

Engine costs not rising would be quite interesting since currently there is no (well, officially :sly:) engine development.

Or you could go to F1 Fanatic, since I do give the website I saw it at. Why would I post an autosport report that most need a subscription to see. Hence the question to see if someone could shed light. That is the same link on F1 fanatic, thus only proving why I asked.

Not sure why you had to open up with that.

Anyways this is what I'm talking about, can anyone shed a bit more light then what I could find cause it is a bit of a concern.
F1 Fanatic:
[I“Some are talking of price increases of 300 per cent, or from the current FOTA-negotiated V8 units at £7m/annum for a year’s supply to £20m, which would cripple all but F1′s best-funded operations.”][/I]

Now happens to be on the front page of f1fanatic, but if it wasn't, how I am supposed to know from what date it is from and with that title. And you didn't mention it was Autosport subscription article (it's not the same link I gave) and even that single quote from it is better than nothing.

Not sure why you had to open up with that.
Because you didn't post the link straightaway. Duh :sly:

What is considered by many people to be the pinnacle of motorsport is going to use V6s :ill:. I would love to see what was possible without all these restrictions and lottery tyres.

What is considered by many people to be the pinnacle of motorsport has no engine development at all right now. It's not a step back really.

I suppose but they spend all this money on other areas of the car to make it as fast as possible and then shove in a 1.6, it certainly wont put me off Formula 1 but I'd much rather see V12/V10 monsters.

Probably just scaremongering at the moment. There is some resistance to the new engine formula, and a lot of its detractors are doing or saying whatever they think will make people shy away from the new designs.

Thank you PM, for actually being informative instead of criticizing my post, I also have found more stuff on this today from BBC.

It was a general question, the autosport article is irrelevant somewhat to why I brought up the subject. There is a search engine on F1 fanatic, google is a great search engine to find F1 Fanatic on. Most people I've talked to that frequent the F1 sub-forum also are members of the highly viewed F1 fanatic. Point is rather than you saying yes or no and helping out, you rather criticize on my posting format instead.

Sure I did, and you find the exact area on F1 fanatic that I speak of shows that I gave enough insight to where to find what I was talking about. Bravo for doing it yourself, I tip my hat to you.

Again, I wouldn't go reading too much into it. It's just resistance from opposed parties. The "the engines won't sound the same!" and "it's just a knee-jerk reaction to the green movement!" defences haven't worked, so they're trying something new.

Again, I understand that and agree, I only bring it up because it is relevant to the thread. Yet I don't want to write it off or fully accept it till charts for either side to show. I want to see numbers that point to it being more or less. Either way this is a good direction to go to, people having lucid ideas of V12s and V10s is not however. Why ask Renault to build engines that they don't even use on the production end in any shape or form? Same could be said for Merc, and Ferrari only has a small portion of their fleet with V12s, even look at the little guy (cosworth) and it becomes obvious.

The World Motorsport Council is meeting today, so hopefully we might get some insight into the 2013 regulations and how they will shape 2014.

They have to go ahead with it.

Let's be honest. In the first year, the engines will likely cost a lot more. But down the line, if you cap output at a manageable level, they will be reliable and cheap.

I'd actually like to see bigger sixes. Perhaps 2.5, turbocharged and limited to around 600-700 horses... with an extra 200 available from KERS.

But that's merely a dream...

I think that, for added fun, they should allow the shape of the engine to be free. Boxer, V, Straight, whatever you want. Then we could get a bit more variation in exterior dimensions/ rear body shapes.

NI would hate to see F1 diesels, pretty undramatic sound. Its not so bad for LMP cars, as they are menacing. But F1 cars should always shriek, be it V12 or rev-limited inline-4s.

The reason why LMP diesels sound so quiet is due to the particulate filters they have to run. Now remove all the obstructions in the exhaust, and you have this :scared::

Of course, the sound doesn't really fit F1 cars, but it's worth mentioning those diesels are 6 cylinders

As far as the sound of Turbo V6's are concerned, judging from the onboard footage of the new Indycars, they don't sound bad at all. In fact, they kind of remind me a little of the old V12 cars :guilty:

And of the old turbo F1 cars:

This is probably a repost, but I'm too lazy to read through 24 pages :embarrassed:
