2016 Formula 1 Grand Premio de MexicoFormula 1

They do but how far does it go? Cutting an entire corner seems a rather extreme thing to let go because it's L1.
To be honest i don't know. Could Lewis rejoin sooner without risking a collision?
Sebastian wasn't even next to Max, still behind and then Max locked and took the "gras" way out of it. Happens a lot on other tracks (mostly curbs/tarmac) and then there are no penalties. (let alone Lewis in the 1st corner).
That doesn't matter. Because Max locked up he would've lost the position period. A driver doesn't have to be alongside to have a guaranteed overtake.

FIA Mafia I tell you. Yet Bernie Ecclestone stands behind Verstappen as he thinks Verstappen is what the sport needs, so the corruption resides within the core of the FIA it seems.
After all the penalize offenses they let Verstappen slide on, it's not surprising they would reprimand him. They have to have people like you making statements like that to appear objective.

in yet another twist, Ricciardo inherits 3rd

Also Marko calling his original golden boy unworthy of being a 4-time champion.. Oh how the wheels are coming off Vettels 2016 campaign...

Fair enough although i'm not sure if the move Vettel made was defensive or to avoid Max who was sliding wide.

The irony of Vettel being the first one punished by this rule.

I think that's the reason Vettel wasnt immediately penalized, especially since Max was the catalyst for it all anyway.

Got to say the words used by FIA are seriously flawed, ''Potentially dangerous driving'' What does that even mean?

It means that Charlie and co need to go and some fresh blood should be introduced, people who remember what kind of sanctions they give out throughout a season.

Sjeez. If it wasn't for Max driving I would have been so done with F1.

The same team that threw a fit with their engine supplier (despite having a better season then McLaren) and got all pissed at the FIA now is making these kinds of comments? Shocking.

Oh 🤬 him. He's only "unworthy" because he isn't with Red Bull anymore. Funny enough, if he isn't worthy of those four championships than neither are they (Red Bull) by association.

Sorry, I just strongly dislike the guy.

How?

No wonder they are worried about the fan base of F1, I'm still youngish and been watching for as long as I can remember.

Not many of my mates or mates younger than me watch F1, and it's not surprising. How do you explain what Seb did to someone who doesn't watch F1 means he loses 3rd.

And I can't stand the Red Bull team, the car yes, but the way they go about things...

Ricciardio should now send Vettel a single RB race shoe and a mini-bar bottle of champagne.
Should he continue to add a taste of feet to Champagne, at one point, other drivers will seal a secret pact with their blood in order to keep Ricciardo away from any podium.

Realistically, you can't.

The corner this took place on saw many lines entering it. Seb took one. They're presuming that he was going to take a different line. The lead car should always have the right to straight-line the corner. It wasn't a wild 15 foot swerve. He started to move towards the apex and Daniel dove in. Both gave room. To me that's racing. If the FIA wants to penalize that (forget the pontificating rule and who asked for it), then it's not racing any more.

There are 2 white lines signifying out of bounds. Use them, not a subjective rule. If there is contact, then address it... but they're basically saying that the lead car has no entry right if someone determines it subjectively.

If Red Bull operated without Marko, it's unlikely they would have made it to where they are today. However I agree they'd be a much more likable team without him hanging around

Have you guys noticed that Raikönnen drove a pretty much invisible race? I heard him 1 time one the radio saying that his quite fresh medium tyres had horrible grip and that was just about all we heard or saw of him.

I think there is only one word that can describe the situation after this race.

lol

E: Bear in mind that it's our "Driver of the Day" with the biggest penalty of the race

If they add in other incidents that they led slide in the past to this incident, they are far from objective. Besides, it also means that they admit that they are failures at their jobs as judges.

They should never judge one incident based on past incidents at other circuits. If they think they made a mistake and want to fix that mistake than they will have to judge those past incidents individually, and not let their grudge towards their failure add up and apply it to the here and now in which they judge a new incident.

So yeah... shame is on them non the less. ;)

He didn't say that. He said his actions were unworthy of a 4 time champion.

So one driver cuts the corner massively, gains an advantage, gets a 5-second penalty for failure to concede a position three laps after the fact.

Another driver blocks, does a bit of Arnoux-Villeneuve-img but positions are maintained without disaster nor accident. No gain nor loss to either. Gets a ten-second penalty.

Well, at least we can't say Ferrari got a free pass on this bit of uneven-handed silliness.

Also, Helmut Marko achieved precisely jack squat in F1 and should be ignored.

ex-Ferrari Boss and FIA chairman Jean Todt isn't happy about Vettel's radio message telling Charlie Whiting to ***** Off, as he told Maurizio Arrivabene to tell Vettel to shut the **** up appearantly. Possible consequences I wonder?

I'll be watching F1 news closely tomorrow for sure. :)

Clearly they felt they owed Daniel still for 2014 Australia

I've always disliked the guy too, the only one group of people I've grown to really dislike when it comes to racing is team owners and manufactures and their collective talking heads. Especially Helmut, sits on an ivory tower, doesn't seem to be all that liked in his own team other than by the person signing checks and only respected for his eye for talent. Now he wants to bash a guy that helped put his team on the map and made the RB program something of a desire for young drivers...yeah that makes sense but you put it best though

I can understand the penalty for Vettel, having moved right on the straight to take up the racing line, then in the braking zone, angling his car towards the apex early to defend. It wasn't that bad, and wasn't as bad as what Max has been doing all year.

In saying that, had Max not taken advantage of the track layout and continued to block Vettel, then Vettel wouldn't have been in that position for Daniel to attack him like that. So considering the position Vettel was forced into by Max cheating and then being a mobile chicane, and the defensive move that followed by Vettel, I think the penalty given is very harsh.
