I suggest if NASCAR wants to increase attendance to any/all of their events then open up the paddock for free. I have only met 1 driver (Ryan Newman, Daytona 2002) attending 10 or so Cup races and have never been in a Cup car. For comparison, I have been in 10 or more IMSA cars, met countless drivers and team members/owners. I believe interacting with teams adds to the experience. Hell, even last year at WGI we had Jason Rabe visit us at our camping spot.

I like this idea and it is from someone who is related to the experience.

That's really funny, I said the exact same thing as Mark earlier in the year. I'd go find the post but I literally just woke up and I'm not in the mood to do it.

The one main issue is the size of the garage area and the amount of people. I have been fortunate enough to develop a friendship with a track official at Watkins Glen from the charity work I did in college. She has given my dad, my brother, and I hot passes for the Sprint Cup weekend at Watkins Glen the past few years. Without selling garage passes garages are packed with very little room, especially during a practice session. It is just not realistic for Nascar to give fans this access. IndyCar on the other hand with 22 teams and a lot less people can give the fans fantastic access. Have had numerous conversations with drivers over the years in IndyCar. IndyCar and IMSA allow the most access for fans.

You know, I just thought of something as well for both Trucks and Xfinity: Why not in addition to running those tracks like they used to, also have some of them as combo races with lower divisions like the Pro Series, the Modifieds (which they sorta do with Bristol) and even both the Canadian Tire and Toyota Series? It'd give the fans a great deal of racing and have all the development driver talent.

That and its hell of a lot more likely then my personal wish to see a Canadian Tire Series/Toyota Series crossover race at Mexico City and Montreal.

They use to do that in the old Busch Series. Nazareth would have 10-15 Busch North Series drivers run in the Busch race.

Few years back now guys like Biffle and Vickers would run with strictly Busch teams. They didn`t have great success because the equipment wasn`t the same and it made the racing better for sure.

Amen on this, having a open paddock is what makes sportscar racing and rallycross so memorable. You get to see the teams working, listen to the drivers talk strategy with their teams, and generally feel like part of the show. heck, Monster Jam does it too, with having "pit parties" where you can talk to the drivers and get autographs from them. it's pretty neat.

IndyCar does a great job with this as well! Please see my post above on why Nascar doesn`t.

Indycar (and its predecessors) have always held that welcoming atmosphere. IIRC the "American Invasion" at Brands Hatch was very popular in England because the fans there loved how easily approachable the USAC drivers were and the down to earth feeling of the paddock.

That being said, NASCAR had that at one point...but its not close to Indycar or IMSA at all I agree.

So Chase is running the #71 truck today.

EDIT: And led the most laps. And didn't win? Johnny Sauter wins and will race for the title at Homestead.

I wonder who's gonna win today... Green Flag!
Edit: I'm gonna try and stay off here and live tweet the race on Twitter.
Double Edit: They just went to commercial break after 15 laps... *sigh*

Did anybody else TV glitch out when it did that Martinsville thing before going to commercials?

Holy crap Nascar, get it together, I have no idea what they needed to sort out but it should not have taken that long.
