In a break from supporting Team GB, I'm an Ireland fan for the diving on at the mo. Oliver Dingley went to my primary and high school, and his brother was in my class. Currently in fourth after the first round.

I love Kenny but it looks like he was really lucky to escape disqualification with that first false start.

They'll probably just cancel the race and throw away the medals if they do it a third time

What a night once again for Team GB!, Two Golds, one Silver and a Bronze in the velodrome tonight.

Laura Trott was exceptional, and Jason Kenny was brilliant to keep his head to win his sixth Olympic medal, the engaged couple now have 10 gold medals between them!

What's happening to Great Britain this year!

110-64, USA smashes Japan in Women's Basketball. Japan did keep it close early in the 2nd Quarter. The USA just blasted past Japan once they woke up on offense. Diana Taurasi was ballin' from 3-point range. Just lethal knocking down three after three.

Elsewhere, it was sad seeing Brazil get knocked out in Women's Soccer to Sweden (in Penalty Kicks) and Women's Beach Volleyball. Then again, Sweden will probably be saying, "are we still cowards, Hope Solo? Look what we did to Brazil!"

Congratulations to the different winners and medalists in other events up to and beyond the time of this post.

Just got back from nearly four weeks in Rio! Really surprised by the availability of tickets when I checked but once off of the beaten track you would not even know the games were taking place to be honest. Some seriously sketchy places over there to put it mildly  I've been all over Europe following Liverpool for decades and have been to some really shady bars (eastern Europe comes to mind) but Rio takes the gold, silver and bronze for fear factor!

Got to see a lot of the pool, cycling and Bolt himself in the 100 which I never got to see in London so all in all a good time. I regret leaving earlier than I intended but once the Premier League kicked off I got homesick (told the other half I missed her, she saw right through it :embarrassed:)

Neymar just scored the fastest goal in Olympic Football history after just 20 seconds in Brazil's semi final vs Honduras, still 1-0.

US swimmer Ryan Lochte and three others robbed

If we held the olympics in Chicago's south side (or any rough part of a developed country), would we see the same things happening as we are in Rio or would the athletes actually have protection?

Turns out he might have made it up. Police tried to stop him leaving the country but he has conveniently already left...

Something really bizarre is going on here, what was he or the government trying to pull? Could have faced 3 years in a Brazilian prison!

Trying to cover up something embarrassing? Earlier in the year there was an Australian golfer who claimed to have been abducted outside a Las Vegas casino and taken around the city against his will before being released without a word several hours later. The whole thing is widely believed to be a fabrication, but no-one knows why.

Yup, I think someone's been doing something naughty and needed an excuse to disappear for a couple of hours.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Several referees and judges have been removed from the Olympic boxing competition after officials reviewed their decisions, fueling suspicion of dubious results in some matches at the Rio Games.

A spokesman for the international federation that governs amateur boxing said Wednesday that the names of the referees and judges who were dismissed and the matches that were tainted would not be released because he did not want to “besmirch their families.”

The federation, known as AIBA, said in a statement that the committee that reviews officiating had assessed all 239 bouts at the Rio Games through Tuesday and had “determined that less than a handful of the decisions were not at the level expected.”

The federation also said in the statement that “the concerned referees and judges will no longer officiate at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”

The move came a day after Michael Conlan, an Irish bantamweight, accused the federation of corruption and suggested that Russian boxing officials had bribed judges. Conlan’s accusations came in an expletive-filled tirade after he lost his quarterfinal bout to Vladimir Nikitin of Russia. Nikitin was awarded a unanimous decision, but the public response to the verdict suggested that many observers believed Conlan should have won.

New York Times.

A new scandal involving Russian athletes. How odd.

I know very little about Handball, but it's fun to watch! I saw highlights of the Men's Handball match between Netherlands/Holland and Slovenia.

While I can't get into sports like golf and tennis, I like how people make Ping Pong and Badminton exciting. Some of the highlights of those two sports yesterday were pretty cool. One of the best things about Olympic competition is that you get exposed to sports you've never seen before and make you respect these sports more than you probably did previously or at all.

Gold and Silver in the Triathlon for the Brownlee brothers!

Great Britain's 20th Gold and Silver of the Games!

:cheers::cheers:

The gold in the women's sailing 470 has been confirmed today after it was delayed yesterday because of a lack of wind. It's unsurprising that the Brits are good at sailing when it turns out it's a sport that can't be done in nice weather.

Can someone explain to me WHY they dont give a second chance to a person who does a false start in the Olympics?

Because you're expected to do it right the first time. To my knowledge, if there is suspected crowd interference, officials might allow an athlete to try again.

Desencadeado! (according to Google that's triggered in Portuguese)

I've never seen water polo but I wouldn't watch it anyway since I think it sounds cruel to horses.

There's instant DQ in all world athletics events for false starts - it is harsh though, esp. when it happens in the final of the 100m :ill:

Speaking of the false start, Puerto Rico's Javier Culson was affected by it as well in the final of the 400m hurdles, the guy was absolutely heartbroken and just in tears when it happened :(.

If everyone got a free pass for 1 false start, how many false starts would you expect on average for a given race? 2? 3? If you tell the field that the whole field gets one false start, what happens when the first guy gets a free pass but the second guy is instant-eliminated? That's not fair either.

The harshness dissuades athletes from chancing it knowing they wouldn't get penalised. Every race would have false starts if they changed the rules. But yeah if you genuinely did it by accident is it a shame if you have trained for 4 years!

It was Saori Yoshida vs. Helen Louise Maroulis in the Gold Medal match in Women's Freestyle Wrestling. Defeated only twice on the highest level, Saori Yoshida was upset by Helen Louise Maroulis. She becomes the first USA woman to win Olympic Gold in Women's Freestyle Wrestling. Yoshida was very decorated in her career, but Maroulis took down Yoshida in stunning fashion. All congratulations to Maroulis on the Gold!

Oh, and thanks for straightening me out on the Netherlands/Holland notion.
