I wonder how far they are off the pace of F1's still those LMP1's. Seem to be flying

Pretty far still, a LMP1 car is about 4-5 seconds off the pace of an F1 car. In terms braking and acceleration a LMP1 car would challenge a F1 car, however F1 cars are much faster on the straights.

I've always wondered what would happen if you put an LMP1 engine in an F1 chassis. The P1 engines produce around 1200bhp maybe more so how are they able to do that while F1 engines struggle to produce upwards of 900hp.

I assume weight and engine regs play a factor but how different are these engines? Apologies if this sounds like a dumb question.

Well, the biggest difference I think would be the heavy reliance of the hybrid systems of the LMP1's. Some cars produces only half the horse power without the hybrid system, whereas the Formula 1 system only produces what, like 150hp?

F1 has more regulations I think, such as engine size and such. Also F1 cars are much lighter. 1200hp in a light F1 car would be pretty scary I would think.

But you are under the impression it won't work :)

No. I'm under the impression that you can't claim something works or doesn't work unless you can repeat the incident to prove it one way or the other. It's called the scientific principle. :)

I've just noticed that the Audi looks absolutely hideous.

I think some of its recent predecessors looked worse. This one vaguely reminds me of the classic Audi Quattro, which is cool. I also think they've applied a better paint job this year. Same goes for Porsche and Toyota.

Because the hybrid concepts are very different between F1 and LMP1. The hybrid system more than doubles the car's performance, whereas in F1 it was introduced to help overtaking.

I haven't really followed the development of the new Ford GT, but the sound it produces makes me wonder what they were thinking. Did something prevent them from introducing a conventional muscle car staying true to the heritage?

A combination of their obsession with "Ecoboost" and building a car that is at the limits of the LMGTE rulebook. Not the worst turbo ever though, sounds better than the disgusting BMW M6 panzer (should have borrowed Bentley's V8T).

They needed to use their Ecoboost engine from their Daytona Prototype car due to regulations.

Is there a LMP2 car with only one working headlight?? I'm surprised they haven't gotten a penalty or something.

I prefer this Ford over the big lazy-sounding V8s that the US is in love with. I do appreciate V8s if they really scream, like the Judd motors in those hill climbers.

What heritage?

It's purely technology moving forward. There's no need for a large V8 when manufacturers are managing to make small V6 engines equally as powerful, and more reliable. (F1, and LMP1 as examples)

Not to mention the sound of a V8 is overrated in my opinion. Ferrari's V8 is the only V8 out there that sounds really good... And Toyota's 2012 V8 unit.

Shut up before I reach thru the internet and beat you over the head.

The American V8 heritage. I won't comment on this one until we see how the new Ford makes progress, but I'm not feeling this car for now. I'd probably have the same concern if a Corvette showed up sounding like this.

Why is Bob Varsha commentating instead of the normal commentators. It's so monotone and way too Americanized.

The day a Corvette shows up anywhere with a TT V6 in it the Corvette fans/owners will go to the Bowling Green factory and burn it to the ground.

Because faux sports has taken his soul and he is working for paychecks now after the demise of Speed.

You watching this on Fox Sports 2?
Yes because I'm recording the race and do not want to spend more money on tv programming than I already do with a massive cable bill. Truly, I would get the WEC app subscription if my bill wasn't so high.

They put a V6T within a foot of the Corvette and there will be war against GM. They'd cease to exist the day they did that. NEVER...EVER will a Corvette have anything but an N/A or Supercharged V8. And that's the way it should be. It'd be like Ferrari making a 430/458/488 line type car and putting a 4 cylinder turbo in it (and not the Subaru boxer kind which is actually nice).

That's one way to put it. @-@
