Ah damn. I thought it was just Manufacturers that had to go to P1-H. I thought privateers could choose...
I don't think that's the case or Rebellion would have done so by now I would assume. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure only factory efforts can be in P1-H. Everyone else has to deal with P1-L or lower.

Are Privateers allowed into LMP1-H? If so, Nissan could make a fortune selling hybrid engines to teams who want to take on the manufacturers. I could see Rebellion, ByKolles, and maybe even Manor joining the P1 ranks if this is possible...

What hybrid engine? They failed hard to make one for themselves.

Even if it is allowed for privateers run in LMP1-H, I don't think we'll se a team running hybrids for some time. It's hideously expensive.

If Nissan wants to take another shot at a hybrid LMP-1 program, I rather see them partnering with a established team like Rebellion or Strakka instead of doing everything themselves.

Similar to Joest/Audi and Oreca/Toyota partnerships.

Nothing is stopping the private teams from using a hybrid except the fact they have to use a hybrid! I know it sounds confusing, but off-the-shelf hybrids are either expensive or not sufficient to take the fight to the factories. Plus the budgets are leagues apart. Even Toyota who is the most frugal spends around $70-80million based on their comments about it being a quarter of their f1 yearly budget. Rebellion and Kolles, I wonder if they even touch 7-figures?

It would certainly be interesting to see what Rebellion and byKolles spend.

They must surely hit 7-figures though as €1m on a team traveling the world is very little even without having vast and expensive R&D like Audi and Porsche.

You have me wondering now...

Considering it costs about 4-5 million for LMP2, I'd say they are spending anywhere from 7-15 million. Probably closer to the 7 figure.

I'm curious as to how expensive the hybrid system in LMP1-H are in comparison to F1's units seeing as they vary quite abit (with Audi for instance using compacators and Porsche using the flywheel system in comparison to F1's PUs)

They are all using battery storage now. Toyota was using super-capacitors and Audi flywheels but Porsche always used battery storage in WEC.

It is thought Toyota spends between €70m - €80m per season or about half what Audi and Porsche spend. However, if you are talking specifically about the 'power unit' cost then I agree it would be interesting to know the comparative costs.

Huh, I thought Porsche have been using a similar Williams developed flywheel system. Ok then. I know Audi have stopped using it so I was reffering to their unit this year.

Yeah, that's what I was reffering to (could've worded it better now that I think about it).

It's still not pretty, but here's hoping it's still up to pace with the Porsches and Toyotas and that they've sorted the under floor plank wear.

It says a lot that the 2014 R18 now looks good to me, and the 2011 looks brilliant. I thought both were absolutely horrid in their time.

erm... I think it looks alright...

The sides are a bit warbly but other than that I've always thought this R18 looked fine. Personally I never liked the original R18. It was too wide to look really good.
