I didn't want to run the META cars everyone is using, and I know the MR cars are currently a no-go, so I decided to sign again for Jaguar, as in my last FIA seasons in GTS. GTWS Manufacturers Cup debut for me. Gr4 F-type definitely seems to have lost some power compared to the GTS BoP, was struggling a bit in the straights without slipstream.
Americas Slot 1 was kind of a practice race for me, since I just signed for the manufacturer 20 mins before the race and hadn't driven the hard tyres at all beforehand. Qualifying was poor, not helped by a car with 1-bar connection who was warping all over the track during the whole qualy. He was appearing sideways in the middle of the track, making barrier crash sounds... it was incredibly distracting. Race pace was pretty good, could have finished in the top 5 if not for a mistake. Ended up 9th with 182 points, decided to go again.
Americas Slot 2 was one of the filthiest lobbies I had been part of. I was punted twice and pushed wide several times, losing positions to gaggle of cars... Race was so chaotic that despite losing loads of time, I ended up still making it back to 9th again at the finish. 184 points, decided to go again, definitely could do better.
Americas Slot 3, 279-point lobby. Qualified P8 on a 56.3. Got up to 6th as a few drivers made mistakes. On lap 5, I was then passed by a Brazilian who seemed to be on softs, down to 7th. That overtake caused me to lose the slipstream to the guys ahead.
Was managing the gap behind with no issues until lap 14, when the American ahead in a Corvette started making a couple of mistakes and then defending, which brought another Corvette, a Mexican, into the battle. On lap 17, this Mexican gave me a punt under braking for the tricky left-hander (turn 4?) and even though I initially managed to keep it on the track, he then continued to push me wide on the exit. The definition of push to pass. When I told him off for that at the end, he said he had been pushed into me by another car. But when I watched the replay, not only the car behind him was like 2 secs behind... but he went on the throttle after hitting me to push me wide deliberately. So, a dirty driver and a lier, great...
Luckily, I somehow managed to avoid losing control or hitting the barriers, so I didn't lose more positions.
Gained one from the Brazilian on softs pitting on the penultimate lap. Couldn't do anything about the Mexican as he had the slipstream of the American ahead, so they finished 5th and 6th, right ahead of me. P7 for me at the end, 209 points. Decided to call it a day.
Considering the Jag didn't seem too competitive here, have to take some positives from knowing I could have finished 5th, which would have been best of the Gr4.5 class (top 4 were 4WD), and scoring over 200 points. But still, frustrating to lose position that way...
