A bit off-topic, but if you could not only rename the AI but also choose their car, livery, and grid position in Solo mode, you could recreate the grid lineups from historical races. Other sims allow this degree of freedom, but they lack the relevant cars and tracks that Project CARS has.
Frankly... If you want to race your family and friends, thats what multiplayer is for. Editing the names of your opponents would be kinda lame imho, its not like real race drivers can determine who they want to race against. The current solution with names from WMD members is fine imho, I just hope they have a certain consistency over your career (becoming recognisable rivals etc).
I think some people would like that sort of name editor as an option. That's what I've always done in any sporting games whether it was a computer game or subbuteo football as a kid. My Grandma is unlikely to have a PSN account for more than one reason so I'd like to posthumously give her the racing career she never had. Seriously, being able to give the drivers names I can immediately identify whether it's my Gran or Nikki Lauda makes other racers and races in the career far more interesting. It can be done in Pro Evolution Soccer Maybe it's something for PCars 2?
PS I think it's cool that the WMD members names are in there too.
what about invitational events? are different in relation to the career path? If i choose as a starting point touring instead of kart, will invitational change? I really like the idea of invitational events, even in super lower-end cars so i don't want to miss them and have a career path allowing me to play them as much as i can. thanks.
i would've thought so. wouldn't really be an invitation if you were forced to participate. but if you choose to not do it, can they be returned to later on or is it a one-off proposition?

Do we know what any of the championship schedules look like, or would a WMD member be kind enough to share? We've got a solid track selection and plenty of great car/track combinations to look forward to.
I wonder if any of the fictional championships will have their own prestige events?
So far I have only done Touring (Clio Cup). This was based over 10 rounds in the UK with each round consisting of a 30 min practice (100%), 15 min Qualify and races of around 12 to 16 laps dependent on track.
Two rounds take place at each venue with race 2 including a mandatory pit stop.
Donnington, Snetterton, Silverstone, Oulton Park and Brands Hatch.
I also received an invitation to enter a road car championship in the Caterham (great fun) that took place once the Clio Cup completed. This consisted of 4 rounds with practice, Qly and 6 lap races.
I can neither confirm nor deny. But either way it's dynamic which means strategy comes into play if there is a change.
And if it is scripted, the depth and scope of the career mode allows so much choice that it's not an issue.
I'm a really big fan of F1. How realistic will the formula A championship be? How many rounds does it have? can you choose 300km races? is the points system the same? what about knock out qualifying?

Last time we checked, it had 20 rounds, you can run full length, points system is the same but iirc there is no knock out quali but I'm really not sure about that last one. Also, you can't refuel and there is DRS/KERS

Thanks for that. What about race strategies? Do we and the AI have to pit (because of tyre wear)? If yes (which I hope) how many times in a full length race (and is it scaled down if we do a 50% race e.g.)?
Thanks.

I can't say anything about that, sorry. I did only run time trials so far with the Formula A without tire wear. But I would expect to pit 1-2 times per race
Ok, thanks. I hope tyre wear is simulated for the player and the AI.
Edit - I guess you don't know this but maybe anybody else: Are there two tyre compounds? Options/Prime like in RL?
Are the weekend schedules realistic? So does Formula A have three practice sessions (two on Friday an the third one on Saturday morning) and is the qualifying for 24h in Le Mans in the late evening, for example?
From the video's I've seen on youtube, each round consists of 2 races.
Does Formula A have 2 races per round? I really hope not, would like endurance, lmp1 and FA to remain 1 race per round.
I do remember reading that there is indeed a multi-class series based on the LMP and GT cars, while the LMP1 only series was a separate championship. I can't see myself doing that one as long as there is a proper WEC-style option to choose.
You guys are not paying attention and the same questions keep being discussed over and over... Yes, there is an endurance championship with multi class races.
About weekend setup. You have a practice session, quali, and 1 or 2 races, depending on the championship you are in.
Ok so I just ran a test on the AI. At present I still have access to the game although according to the WMD forums I will lose my access any time between now and release as is the case for all Junior and Team members.
If you don't want to know my findings don't click.
I previously mentioned that I ran a GT 5 class race in the Ginetta G40 Junior in career mode and qualified easily on Pole and won the race by 27 seconds using 100% Ace difficulty In the gold/latest build at the weekend.
Someone mentioned that the AI is only nerfed in Career mode lower tiers and that it had been confirmed that running offline in Quick race 100% difficulty meant 100% difficulty.
So I set up a 20 car Ginetta G40 Junior race mirroring the practice, Qualify and race laps using quick race weekend to test. Everything was the same as career including no aides and car setup.
Unfortunately I was 3.2 seconds a lap quicker than the AI in practice and so skipped to Qly.
Here I waited for the AI to run around the track in real time setting there laps whilst I remained in the garage for 11 of the 15 minutes of qly.
I then set out on cold tires to do an out lap a hot lap and and in lap and I got pole by 2.06 seconds.
I stated the race from pole and led by 2.6 seconds at the end of lap 1. I then quit the race.
Conclusion: AI races well. Some of the best I have raced against in terms of race craft but the 100% difficulty level is painfully slow not just in career but in other modes too.
I haven't tried the higher tiers in either career or Quick race but will set up a GT 3 race at Donnington later to test.

Yeah some tiers/tracks are slower than others. Donington is a good example of a bad/slow AI racing line, they take 2 of the corners painfully slow there.
