I did the 2nd race at Donington in the Ginetta...so much easier than Oulton..i won both races by about 8 sceconds! Im finding the default setup to be better than the tuning forum one...the car is a lot easier to drive than the Clio. I dont know if a 1:24 in a Ginetta at Donington is decent..

No doubt qualifying is very important in this.

Donington seems to be a circuit the AI is struggling with in nearly every category.

They cost themselves massive time at the Old Hairpin (the right hander at the bottom of the hill, turn 3 or 4). They don't use the full width of the track, loosing a considerable amount of exit speed.

I've also noted that they lose time in a similar fashion at some corners at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park, as they don't use the curbing available on exit (turn 1 at Oulton Park, for example).

They slow down far too much for the high speed sweepers.
They're slow at Snetterton Turn 1. Oulton Park turns 1, 3 and 15. Brands Hatch 5, 6 and 7.
That being said, they're on pace at Silverstone International, but not at Silverstone National.

This experience is strictly based on Career races in the Clio and G40. AI set to 100%.

Agree with everything here, I found more of the same.

I've also noticed that they often overdrive the entry to slower corners quite significantly (especially chicanes), making them very easy to pass on corner exit.

After my session tonight, I've become quite disenchanted with the game entirely thanks to the AI experience. I don't know if it's a bug/glitch or a design flaw, but the dramatic speed variations through practice / qualifying / race is incredibly frustrating and not enjoyable in the slightest.

In the GT5 class at Brands Hatch, I was fastest in all practice and qualifying sessions, but then a roadblock in the race. I won the sprint race with ease, without even needing to go defensive, but the entire field was stacked up behind me in a very dramatic fashion. Whats worse is that I think this triggers a "panic" mode in their programming, as the car running in second would consistently make a significant unprovoked error (usually going straight off the road at the final turn), dropping back in the pack to be replaced by the next car in line, who would repeat the exact same situation within a lap or two.

I'm quite comfortable leading a train of cars and holding a race lead, but that wasn't competitive racing, it was the AI being considerably faster than me, but not having the necessary programming to act accordingly. The other big problem here is that if I scale down the AI, I'll be even further in front in qualifying and then they'll be even less likely to be able to race me effectively.

Theres more to it of course, but with how good everything else is, this is such an incredible disappointment. I really hope it gets some attention in the very near future.

Were there any variations in the track temps? Were you running the same laps, they were just faster?
I ask because my next race will be the 2nd Brands Hatch race in the G40. I've been extremely dominant to this point. Qualifying 2+ seconds quicker and able to pull and maintain 8+ second gaps during the races. I won the Brands Hatch Sprint race by a long shot. The only difficult was the sun/lighting. Otherwise I was just dinking around, riding out the laps basically from lap 1.

Kind of the same thing happened to me, except I'm now on GT4 with V8 Vantage at Dubai Autodrome. Throughout both practice I was either top 3 or first. For both quali I qualified 1st, with low 1:44s. The second place only managed high 44s. Come race though I was struggling, for both sprint and main. I was able to manage consistent high 44s and low 45s, but several guys were able to lap consistently low and mid 44s. The one that passed me to win the race actually consistently 44s but also several 43s!

I struggled after a while due to tires, but also kind of scratching my head at the opposition lapping at or faster than my pole quali times.

I think this has been acknowledged by SMS. AI does not lower fuel load for Qualifying. If they did, AI might have P1 in Qualifying.

How can you find the timing of the AI cars? I've not figured that out yet. Would love a screen similar to GT6 B-Spec for timing during Replay.

I just noticed in the last series I ran in one of the AI drivers had the same name as one of my friends, not a real common name either so I found that rather interesting.

I was mistaken in putting GT5 in the post, it's actually GT4. I won literally every session I took part in with the G40 season, with the exception of one of the races at Brands Hatch when I crash out after a boredom-induced lapse in concentration.

So correcting myself, it was in the GT4 class, the Mustang, if it makes a difference. My laptimes picked up from qualifying as well, which would be down to track conditions, but this was by about 3 tenths, not 1.5 seconds.

I understand the comment about a fuel load glitch, but that doesn't explain how I'm still faster than them in the practice sessions, which I run on race fuel. I was practicing in the region of 2 to 6 tenths faster, qualifying .5 to 1 second faster, then being 1 to 1.5 seconds off the pace in the race - to all of them! The gap from fastest AI to slowest in qualifying was around 3.2 seconds, however in the race, the AI are all running lap times within .5 to 1 second of each other.

I'm going to do some more testing on the weekend, in both career mode and quick race, to see if I can find some consistent examples of this.

I take it other people have found that, for example, if you exit after Race 1 of a Clio Cup round, and choose the "save progress" option, it actually doesn't so you've got to do Race 1 again?

Alright fellas, I need some Career advice.

Season 1: Clio Cup
Season 2: GT5 - G40
Season 3: ??

My preferred options are GT4 OR Formula Rookie.
I would really like to go to GT4 and drive the Aston, but I am pretty while tired of all the British tracks at this point. Ideally I'd pick the one that put me on some more varied tracks.

I am really hoping to never have to race at Snetterton ever again.

I'm currently doing GT4 with the Ginetta, and the first race is at Dubai, so that choice will get you out of the UK at least...
In some ways it is my fault for picking UK-centric series to start on, but I've not raced any tracks other than Donington, Snetterton, Oulton, Silverstone or Brands. With Sprint and Full races at each, my curiosity for those tracks has been satisfied for the time being.

Ahh I forgot about this one...read it awhile back before I had the game...but...

This. I also was a bit faster than them in practice, but again I also lowered fuel amount for the practice round too. But then again, for the AI, what is their fuel amount for the race? Full? As in the maximum amount when the slider is all the way to the right? If that is the case then I definitely should be faster than them in the race too, as I put in the bare minimum to cover the race distance.

I just pause after every lap and look at their lap times lol

Just started my career. What AI difficulty does everyone have theirs set to?

80. Always tell myself in practice and quali to up to 90 and try it out because I tend to come first, but then come race day I say no because I always end up either messing up or just dont have the pace to maintain first lol

Run the Practice session, full length. If you're more than .5 seconds ahead, move it up.

That's all well and good but I normally find I'm a good second quicker in qually and would expect to be able to pull a gap in the race but they are quicker or as quick . Been qualifying with high fuel aswell to even it out .
In season 3 now with the RUF GT3 in the Supercup and loving it . Possibly my favourite GT3 car so far

I started the other end. This is the first game I can't keep up with the top difficulty. I am not too far off but I am off the pace of them.

Is it just me, or are the AI in Superkarts extremely easy? I usually play at 70% and while I'm faster then the AI, its not as fast as it seems with the superkarts. I was literally about 20 seconds ahead, so I bumped it up to 80% and again, it was very easy. This time I finished the race only 15 seconds ahead.. after I spun out and ended up at the back of the pack.

You could just like the superkarts more. It is like I am more on the pace with open wheel cars than I am with gt or touring cars.

Yeah, that wouldn't be too far off. I really enjoy them, although they where intense when I first jumped in them. My tires are completely destroyed by the end of the main race though  The kerbs send them spinning if you hit them just right, though.

Into season 7 and I have a contract with a LMP1 team. During the 2nd race, at Hockenheim, I tapped another car while braking for turn 1. I got 1 engine damage and a bit of aero damage, but my PCars profiler showed my water temp starting to climb from 100 to 109. I had to short shift the rest of the race to prevent a blown engine. It's things like that, that make me love this game.

They need to show those values to console users too... I had an engine explosion and that useless Stig didn't even warn me about temperature rising...

They do, just assign a button (I use right in the D-pad) for the MoTEC and you can cycle through all of that (not in all cars), handy for tyre and brake temps as well in cars that don't start with tyre warmers for every session.
