I'd imagine there's drip feeding going on.
Probably on par with Rockstar levels. đ€Ł

Itâs probably true that modelling is the most demanding part of developing a car for the game, but PDâs modelling team could be proportionately bigger than the audio team. Maybe it all balances out internally.I guarantee it takes the guys doing the audio and the guys sorting out the tuning parts less time per car than it takes for the modellers to create the models themselves. If anything, it should be the modellers trying to keep up with everyone else. These aren't particularly big jobs in comparison.
I also believe itâs done by processing the source recording, but the effort required is likely not small. Maybe this is naive on my part, but I can imagine the audio team is carrying out extensive research as to how different upgrades would affect a real car of the same model, meaning the audio processing work would get referenced against real world data (different engine pitches, exhaust characteristics, manifolds, turbos, superchargers, etc.) So while it might âonlyâ be a matter of manipulating and adding some effects to the source recording, they also need to make sure that the result comes across authentic, especially regarding cars for which such data is accessible to them.Just an assumption but I doubt they put that much time into the audio differences, pitching samples up/down and other adjustments doesn't take too long. I'm sure they don't actually record unique new samples, that'd be insane.
I donât think itâs that easy. For example, take a car like the C7 Corvette ZR-1. You can install many parts but you cannot perform a bore up or polish ports etc. Time-consuming effort must go into arriving at these decisions. Maybe not as much effort as modelling a whole car, but maybe more people are allocated to that task?In the context of 6 months of man hours, I just can't see how that is going to be a large part of the process. Pick a car right now off the top of your head, couldn't you find all the real world mods available in a couple of hours? 4380 hours for the modelling, an extra 2 to research parts, another, say, 50 to model them?
Whatâs your source for 300 people? PDâs website says theyâre approximately 170 employees. Not that the precise number really matters in this discussion as we donât know how these employees are allocated. Also remember, this is a team of 300 people. Not 10. I'm sure they have enough people to cover the extra time. Add on all the cars without modifications and I just don't buy it as a primary reason for producing 30% less cars per year.

Sure but again, we're talking about over 4000 hours to build the car. These extra hours are tiny in comparison.I donât think itâs that easy. For example, take a car like the C7 Corvette ZR-1. What is your best memory during these 25 years of Gran Turismo?
Kazunori Yamauchi: When it was released 25 years ago on PlayStation, Gran Turismo was an experimental title, and I didn't expect it to become so popular to be honest. Since then, we've had the support of millions of players around the world, and Polyphony Digital has grown from a small team of 15 people back then, to around 300 today, but it's still the same and a large family, who take pleasure in developing a title developed with passion. This is probably what I am most proud of today.
On the points you've made, I would agree the modeling team would be proportionally larger than the people setting up the tuning parts and recording/tweaking audio samples, but I don't see a scenario where there's a significant delay from one side or the other. Creating the cars shouldn't be much (if any) more complex than creating the cars for GT Sport. If anything they should be more experienced and have more efficient processes by now.Itâs probably true that modelling is the most demanding part of developing a car for the game, but PDâs modelling team could be proportionately bigger than the audio team. Maybe it all balances out internally.
Itâs not far-fetched to argue that weâre seeing fewer cars in todayâs batches compared to GT Sport because more work now goes into developing them. Iâm inclined to say thereâs no debate there really.

Customization and tuning might not be the primary reason. Iâm just pointing out that nowadays there are added complexities we must not forget to take into account. They are probably drip-feeding the game according to a scheduled plan, but that plan may also be affected by various factors that werenât present during GT Sportâs life.
Why go to the extra effort of adding 12 cars a month when players are perfectly happy to lick your boots for only 3?Obviously, they donât need to drip feed. If weâre in it for four years, they could still do the 12 car a month thing. Itâs the lack of trying to create anything. Why shoot yourself in the foot? If they delivered 12 cars/month, along with the LCD and UCD, wouldnât they get more money from MTX?
I mean, someone pointed out they may be making enough from MTX in these first few months. They no doubt have numbers from players that bought cars in GT Sport. So, goodness gracious, go content heavy and rake in the dough. Theyâre already greedy. Go hard.
I know you didn't just use the words "extra effort" in that sentence. Why go to the extra effort of adding 12 cars a month when players are perfectly happy to lick your boots for only 3?
It dosen't matter if you or my or anyone here agrees or not .Just because we had LM/Concept race cars in previous GTs doesn't mean I agree with them.
Agreed.Quality > Quantity. ALWAYS.
Well we are not far of that number.Would much rather have 350 real life detailed and unique cars,
The fact its easier means a bigger possibility of fictional cars appearing. So what if it's easier to make fictional cars?
You misunderstood me, by easier i was talking about licensing .That in fact makes me appreciate them less for that fact alone.
Thats false. And the VGT cars actually take more time to make because they are cars built by software (and the car itself like its specs for example) from the ground up.
I Understand.Just so you don't misunderstand, this isn't a critique about GT7, but GT as a whole.
Whats wrong with that? Every single car in history started from a drawing board.Of all the VGTs, which ones exist? Bugatti and the RX-Vision as far as I know. All others are fantasy done in a drawing board.
Thank You .Nice logic.
False, many cars cannot and some can be equipped with limited parts. The stats/specs of each car can be changed in the game,
See the reply above.which means that every single car can be set up/tuned to be very different to their original form.
No they are not as i pointed out.As for the VGTs you mentioned, guess what, they are literaly the same car, with different specs.
These parts are not available from the tuning shop.
- The McLaren dosen't have the active aerodynamics and has different hybrid system energy deployment.
- The Hyundai has regular gears while the original dosen't.
- The Bugatti is quite different as the group 1 version dosen't have active aerodynamics , less than half the power , and is lighter.
' should have happened' ? why, because you said so? .What should have happened, it that when you bought the car, you had the option to convert it to Gr.1 spec, instead of having to separate cars. But no, let's copy and paste the same car, change de specs, lock the active aero in place, et voilĂĄ, an extra car.
No it explains why the car isen't a duplicateDoes it say it's yet another facelifted version of an existing car?
Seriously..assume one flies while the other does not? Because "very different", is quite vague. A Miata drives very differently compared to the Veyron. Do those Lexus drive the same level of "very different",
You are the one exaggerating.or is it the typical exaggeration of people who try to justify duplicates?
Nothing ill continue enjoying me day. Why? What will you do?
If you test your claim you will see thats not the case. It's a factual fact, that Gr.4 cars are pretty much the road car with GT Auto parts, new brakes, a bit of tuning and in general use the same interior as the Gr.3/GT3 counterpart
Didn't you say all of them were duplicates a faw days ago ?But I don't really consider them duplicates, but just an easy way to boost the count for one specific class (that otherwise would have been lacking in GT Sport).
Who is 'we'? you are the second person i have seen on this site waiting for it.The fact that we are some 8 years waiting for it.
Here is the exaggeration again.the priority is cars that have a different bumper. See, it's priorities.
And this bothers you so much? .And the RMs from GT5 became the equivalent to that in GT6. Either way, the point is, RMs end up being the same thing as any other fictional race car in GT games, it's just now there are classes for them.
Not really thats how licensing works. But that's just bad game design. A problem we have consistently in this game.
And what if you didn't approve of those other cars?Yes, they added real cars to the brands that had... real cars in those classes. Brands that didn't have, they had to model pretty create from scratch Gr.3 versions, which took resources away of modeling other cars.
You are saying that like its something that dosn't happen all the time and has lost any significance because of that .If they want to enrage the fanbase, sure.
than 400 of which a 1/3 are tuned from the road models or fictional cars that don't exist at all.
Ok so i did the math regarding fictional cars for every main GT .cars (1/10 of the cars in the game are VGTs).
My mistake, what I meant was, for cars that can be tuned, their "stats" change, just like those VGT Gr.1 variants, without those cars counting as a "separate car" just because they perform very differently from the original. All in all, those VGTs could have had an option that does exactly what they do in terms of their performance for Gr.1, without copying the vehicle, lock the moveable aeroFalse, many cars cannot and some can be equipped with limited parts.
See the reply above.
They are, as they did not require any extra time to model, nor were modeled from scratch to become that new (Gr.1) version. They use the same exact car, and change a few parameters (specs and moveable aero parts), and just call it new. This wouldn't really be a problem if it happened once in the whole 430-ish car list, but that's not really the case, as they grab a car, change it a bit (if anything), and call it new.No they are not as i pointed out.
But, couldn't they be? What's stopping them from having a "Gr.1 conversion" option? Oh, I know, a chance to boost the car count, by doing exactly that, but selling it as a separate new car. The Supra '19 and Supra '20, couldn't they just be the same car, with just both "trim levels" as an option? Nope, gotta have 2.These parts are not available from the tuning shop.
Because it's more truthful to players, and makes the car count much more realistic as to how many really "unique cars" the game has. Instead of using every slight variation of anything to call it a completely new car.' should have happened' ? why, because you said so? .
Ah, the "No you" argument. You are the one exaggerating.
You sure? If you test the claim, you will observe that Gr.4 (fictional, not the real GT4 cars) cars use the same body as the road version they're based on, with some body parts added (which includes the exhausts and of course the spoiler), new wheels and brakes. The interior in most cases is the same from their Gr.3 counterpart, atleast in GT Sport. The 650S Gr.4 has exactly the same cockpit as the real GT3 car. And that's really a clever solution, it saves them time and resources. If you test your claim you will see thats not the case.
Nope, they could count as such, if we nitpick the fact that they use already modeled content (the body from the base car, and the cockpit from a Gr.3/GT3 version), so realisticaly, they might have modeled just the exterior modifications.Didn't you say all of them were duplicates a faw days ago ?
Never mind about everyone who asked for it in the wishlist forum. But yes, only two players in the whole world want that car. Speak of exaggeration huh?Who is 'we'? you are the second person i have seen on this site waiting for it.
If it was an exaggeration, then we wouldn't have had the BRZ right in the first update, nor we would've had facelifted cars like the Clio, or the GT86 (with the GT Limited version) way before many other cars, in GTS/GT7. A BRZ which barely changes anything from it's Toyota counterpart, in the first content update we got, it's terrible marketing really. Here is the exaggeration again.
Nope, just stated the fact that RM, LM and Gr.3/Gr.B cars are quite similar concepts with different names, with the Gr. cars having some level of BoP to them. So having an RM in this game would be pretty much the same thing as adding a new Gr.3 or Gr.B car.And this bothers you so much?
Licensing does not affect how hard it is to get something (engine swaps) in the game. That's what's bad game design. Not really thats how licensing works.
I have a pretty varied taste in cars, so the chances of "not approving" are fairly slim. Though, there are cars that I wouldn't care to have in the game, not because I don't like them, or I wouldn't find a use for them, but because I'd consider many others (relevant, cool, highly demanded) cars a priority over said specific car. There are cars more suitable for a game than others too. Take SUVs, a Jaguar F-Pace SVR is much more suitable than a E-Pace diesel. But this is where the "everyday car" or "the car I own" debate gets heated, as in most cases, none of those are particularly relevant/special to be added to the game. In PS1 and PS2 times they could afford to add almost anything, because modeling was a lot easier, now they can't.And what if you didn't approve of those other cars?
Sure, but that doesn't mean people should just accept everything PD or any dev throws at them. Either way, when it comes to duplicates and such, there's nothing we can do to change the ones that are already in the game, but we can try to make PD improve in that regard for the future. I actually want to feel hype for the content in new updates. And so far, I haven't really felt that, apart from the track in 1.17, and that first content update, really gave a bad impression. You are saying that like its something that dosn't happen all the time and has lost any significance because of that .
We do not know that, especially since some cars like the Tomahawk GR.1 has quite different bodyworkThey are, as they did not require any extra time to model
Yes but thats another discussion .But, couldn't they be?
Nothing .What's stopping them from having a "Gr.1 conversion" option?
Thats a different case to the Gr cars and i agree with you there. The Supra '19 and Supra '20, couldn't they just be the same car, with just both "trim levels" as an option?
Is it tho? You can't take a normal Mustang GT in real life, take it to a show and ask them to convert it into the GT4 , you have to buy it separately .Because it's more truthful to players,
Thats very subjective, for me a car having direct drive vs regular gears and vice versa etc, is a big enough difference for me to consider them different.unique cars" the game has. Instead of using every slight variation of anything to call it a completely new car.
What?Ah, the "No you" argument.
You judge the book by its cover way too much. Take a Gr.4 car and the regular car tuned as close to the Gr.4 car and you will see that the group 4 car is still faster. You sure? If you test the claim, you will observe that Gr.4 (fictional, not the real GT4 cars) cars use the same body as the road version they're based on, with some body parts added (which includes the exhausts and of course the spoiler), new wheels and brakes.
I was sincere when i said that, however i was wrong indeed.Never mind about everyone who asked for it in the wishlist forum.
So GTplanet count as the world now?. Because i only mentioned the site. But yes, only two players in the whole world want that car.
Speak of exaggeration huh?
If you didn't see that coming from light years away thats your misjudgement. If it was an exaggeration, then we wouldn't have had the BRZ right in the first update,
So they added 169 cars via updates and the 3-4 cars falling in that category is the thing you focus on?.nor we would've had facelifted cars like the Clio, or the GT86 (with the GT Limited version) way before many other cars, in GTS/GT7.
Not really its how there deals workit's terrible marketing really.
It actually does. Manufacturers want to make money and simply proving a name and some numbers makes them nothing , but if they mandate the addition of a car with said engine they can get more money.Licensing does not affect how hard it is to get something (engine swaps) in the game.
Ill take your word for it.I have a pretty varied taste in cars, so the chances of "not approving" are fairly slim.
Never said they should .Sure, but that doesn't mean people should just accept everything PD or any dev throws at them.
Because it goes beyond being able to equip parts. Even if you use the same parts and settings, the Gr versions will always be faster.I think the laziest of all is then they make 2-3 VGTs that look extremely similar and call them VGT, VGT road, VGT Gr3 and the like. Why not just have one of them and make it tunable.
I can totally tell you that RX-7's turning into the LM edition if that drops next update. Please god, give us these in the next updateView attachment 1168276

Flip the car over and see if there's a Diecast stamp on the bottom of it.Is pd still outsourcing modeling?
Pepperidge Farm remembersFlip the car over and see if there's a Diecast stamp on the bottom of it.
It matters because it potentially speeds up the work rate, which in turn benefits the players granted that QA standards are kept intact.EVery modern game company does that. Why does it matter?
Demonstrably false.I think PD could'nt care less about this issue.
We have literal proof PD care about leaks though....I think PD could'nt care less about this issue. If people are talking about your game, it's a good thing. GTPlanet makes up a tiny fraction of people playing the game. If PD cared about us they would make deadlines and release complete games.
