does anyone regret buying the game?

It's the best GT yet, but of course it is.

I just don't feel as excited to play X and Y new racing game since GT5. The wanting to drive and collect and drive again simply isn't as intense as before. Experiencing the "sexier" FM4 sounds has definitely not helped in my enjoyment of GT6 so far. But maybe thats because my attention has shifted to more story-driven games like Remember Me, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, BioShock Infinite, etc..

I don't regret buying it, no. Call me naive but I still expect things to improve a great deal since what we have now is nothing more than public beta in glossy packaging.

I would like to make a small mention about the fashion that seems to have sprung up of people posting stupid pictures with some inane comment plastered on them, in an attempt to be humorous, rather than actually saying anything. This is a discussion forum, not a pop-up children's book.

:mad:I'm really getting sick & tired of all these complaints about the AI. I've heard everything from "they're too easy to beat" , to "they crash into you intentionally." I mean, seriously? I love a game with changing AI charecteristics. I'll admit, I'm not what you would call a clean racer. I've forced myself past multiple AI drivers in GT6 & I don't intend to stop anytime soon, especially if I'm using a car with much lower PP than the rest of the field. I've eve cut a few corners at the expense of shoving the AI completely out of the racing line (I.E.: the chicane at Apricot Hill). They've even done the same to me. I was just in a crash at Suzuka very similar to the wreck between Ayrton Senna & Alain Prost in the 1990 Japan Gran Prix @ Suzuka. I had just forced my way past the AI in a much more powerful NSX Type R. He had started gaining on me when I lost traction momentarily coming out of the final turn. As we were approaching the first corner, he was still behind me but still gaining. I tried to block as much as I could on the inside but he pulled the same thing Senna did in 1990 & drove right into the back of me, going for a gap that every driver could see would end in catastrophe. Unfortunately, only I suffered from the incident & he wasn't affected at all. I was very angry about this but was still happy that it happened. It shows that the AI have feelings & as strange as that may sound. they are more human-like.

Yes, seriously. I'm not sure why you're getting upset, because it's true. I rarely feel like the AI is competiting with me. They drive like it's a track day and not a race. If the AI were any good, then we wouldn't be starting every race with a rolling start and large gaps between everyone. Just about every "race" I had so far was me driving fast enough to get past everyone to catch up with the lead car. That's not racing. And don't tell me to use a weaker car because it doesn't magically make them better.

As much as I love GT6, I sometimes feel the AI is holding me back from fully enjoying the game. The excellent driving physics are the only thing keeping me going. The only time I truly felt I was racing the AI was the GT-R mission at Silverstone. Even though it was rubberbanding, it was still one of the most fun moments I've had in the game so far.

well, do you? i'm starting to. first they make me buy that stupid fit. annoying, but not a huge deal. then i find out all races have PP restrictions and most have tire restrictions too. that is complete bs, but whatever i can deal. then i learn that the best paying race for time gives less than 11k a minute... trying not to lose my temper. alright, i've excepted all of this crap but then when i'm trying to get the S license i'm presented with a time trial in an anemic car with no light to speak of. ARE YOU FRACKING KIDDING ME!? someone's fixin' to get stabbed with a spoon. i manage to get past that only to find the endurance races are not very enduring. and then i find that most tracks are black holes at night. that is unacceptable.

i'm not thinking of selling is but i am thinking about putting it back in it's case and letting it collect dust for a few months while some updates accumulate. maybe by then they'll have released more, better paying races and change the PP/tire restrictions (preferably remove them entirely).

No.

It is no different to $60 for a sit down meal at a middle of the road restaurant with an irritating cousin. Sure the food was only somewhat OK and the company was just meh.... but hey on the upside someone else brought the food to the table and did the dishes.

Sure as hell beats either eating at home in the kitchen or going to McDonalds.

:)

I knew going in I was not sitting down at Fogo de Chao.

GT6 has not been the best sit down meal ever, but it is sure as hell not the worst and is still great fun at the price.

:)

I guess somebody is not satisfied.

About the Focus ST '13...
It's ruined! Undrivable! I can't believe this broken machine is in the game! Why did they have to be so lazy when working their ass off! Unbelievable. Returning this game today.

NeuroticVows made a good suggestion. Go with it. If they made AI harder, what would that mean for less skilled drivers? How would they ever win a race? Think about them as well.
Difficulty slider.
The way the game is now, the only people who can get a challenge by using AI equivalent cars, are those who have no idea how to drive a car.
Pleasing the casuals is a smart move financially, almost completely ignoring anyone who's ever played GT before, is a shame.

...then i find out all races have PP restrictions...
It's funny because most have been complaining that the PP restrictions aren't restrictive enough... are you kidding me? You can do 500pp races in a 600pp car.
Whatever, to answer your question, no I don't regret buying the game.

I don't regret buying GT6 at all, if you're a petrol head, I don't understand how you could.

For my money, it's the finest simulator and racing game ever developed. Yes it's not perfect but nothing ever is but it always feels like Polyphony is striving for perfection.

The best GT ever made.

Have you tried rFactor or Race 07 or GTR Legends or GTR2 or iRacing or Asseto Corsa? Or even Forza?

I strive for perfection in English class, but that doesn't mean I'm any good at it.

OT: Yes I do find myself regretting it somewhat. I played through enough to unlock all the races, golded all the licenses and missions, now I'm bored with it.

My problem list:
1. Seriously crappy FFB, I prefer rF1 to Gt6, and if you've ever played rF1 you'll know that's BAD. Like, really bad.
2. Boring AI. The races are 20% dodging rolling obstacles and 80% hotlapping, leaving 0% left over for fun.
3. The Jacka$$es online. Not the game's fault I know, but still takes away what was left of the fun factor.
4. Not enough of the promised features yet. No Course Maker, Community tab, etc. Hell, the Hudson was the MAIN feature in the commercials I saw for the game. That was literally it, just the Hudson driving around willow. Why would you put that in the commercial but not have it in the game yet? PD Logic.
5. Rolling starts. A necessity because of point 2.
6. Sounds. Like a mix between a jet engine and a vacuum.
7. Wonky Physics. An improvement for sure, but still decent at best.

On the other hand:
1. Best Nurburgring and night racing model available today.
2. Lots of cars that I would have never heard of otherwise.
3. I was actually surprised at the 24 min races, definitely had some strategy to work out and was surprisingly fun trying to go 2 laps of Le Sarthe on a dry track on Inters because I made the wrong call.

I'm going home over the Winter break and not taking my PS3, hopefully there will be some patches inbetween, but at this point I'm gonna hang up the towel, just not worth playing it anymore. Probably will come back when #4 gets worked on more, I'm really excited about the new CC. That's about it though.

No. One of the best GT games ever made and it will grow in the near future.

I judge the physics alone, and it is the most realistic yet despite the bugs in some cars and some data that sure will be fixed in patches.

Career mode is boring because of the poor AI and the PP limit does nothing to restrict you...so it is easy to win everything. (Karts races are a little pain if you make a mistake, but that should happen in a real race...so...can´t complain)

Graphics...you can´t ask for more because of the PS3.

Sounds is my biggest complain so far.

No, love it. All the stuff people are complaining about will either be fixed or addressed by future updates and or added by future DLC. Be patient.

YES!!! GT6 IS THE BEST!!! I NEVER GET BORED OF IT!! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE GAME BREAKING BUGS, I JUST LIKE IT BECAUSE KAZ WORKED SO HARD ON IT!! I LOVE GRAN TURISMO 6!!!!

Is that what you want to hear instead of legitimate and reasonable complaints?

Well, please define legitimate and reasonable, because to me, this all just sounds like someone who is just upset because they don't earn 50,000 credits a minute, because that's ridiculous.

As I said earlier in this thread, it's about the AI.
Nothing hurts this game more than that. I doubt there would be such volume of complaints if the races were fun in the least.

And I swear they brake check me all the time.

The credit payout isn't going to get better. No Dev in their right mind would charge what they do for in game currency if you could earn it in less than a couple hours.

Other issues are missing features that were promised.
The course creator and community elements are pretty big. To my knowledge, they were going to be with the game when it shipped.
If I had known they'd come out later, I'd have waited. Why should I pay full price for something with less features when a cheaper version will include the features they promised in the first place?

Then there's the little things like the fact that tuning hasn't changed since the beginning of the series.

Or that there isn't much reason to race lower end cars if you've unlocked the high end races. I'm not saying they should jack up the payouts for early races. But they should add some late game events for low end cars.

And why can't we race for longer than a couple laps?

There are only three dirt events in the game. Just pointing that out. GT5 has randomly generated point to point races. But they weren't repeatable and that ruined it.

So there. How's that for legitimate complaints?

Not really, but I bought the PS3 basically for GT5.
If I had done the same thing for 6 I would have regretted it.

5 is a mess compared with the PS2 games, but 6 is ridiculous. I mean, just watch a replay at Bathurst. Don't pause for "photo mode" bs, watch it. It's laughable at times.
The AI is cack, and the racing is a joke.
I was looking forward to the track maker (where is?)
Not enough of the old tracks were revived.
Still too much pointless focus on fine detail of cars. (The curse of photomode).
I didn't like the GT5 UI, and 6 is better, but has no charm to it! Go back to the 4 style map!

I disagree with others about it feeling GT-like. To me it feels really quite un-GT-like. It's so rough around the edges, the performance/visuals are really lacking the solidity which marks out GT.

Basically it boils down to selling games with car-lists and photo-mode pictures. Next gen they'll model complete engine bays so that photo-mode kids can "pop the hood" when they "photo travel" (the absolute most stupid thing ever btw! Want a really detailed time consuming track you can't actually drive on? Here you go!) and meanwhile the framerate will be 35fps and there will 8 retarded AI cars on track.

If they hadn't done so much photo-mode crap this gen, GT6 would be so so so much better.

At the moment I'd have to say the game it just too broken for me to continue with it.
I'm not going to mention the problems again here...we all know what they are.

Its a shame for the fans and a shame for PD.
At this point my hopes rely on version updates and/or GT7,PS4.

That being said, this is my personal opinion and I'm not pushing it on
anyone.

You mean those Sound and AI updates that are due since 2001?
Those things + the lame career mode and the prospect of a long and hard grind in said environment, is what makes people regret that they bought GT6 i think.

Nailed it.

At least if the cars didn't sound like someone having diarrhea, then i'd still have the motivation to play it.

If I had not got the internet - I would have been perfectly happy with it. (Bliss = Ignorance)

Of course you read the horror stories, and question things... But the bottom line for me is I enjoy playing and look forward to the next race.

Maybe the game is too big and has too many players with different opinions of what they want. As the game gets bigger so the noise from players who feel their special item was ignored.

No regrets on getting GT6.

Nope. This is just the beginning and it should only get better.

Wait, so you now what someone having diarrhea sounds like?:odd: :sly:

No, that was sarcasm. For real though, if you complain and call people lazy because of one wrong gear ratio, that's really sad.
I understand it was a mistake on PD's part, but to make a big deal over it? Like seriously, you can't call someone lazy over one little mistake, wow those people...

Here's the thing... if you know that those things haven't improved since 2001 to your liking... what made you so convinced they would improve in GT6 to your liking that you actually went out & made the purchase to regret it?

That's what I'm wondering. I mean do you really feel there was a bait & switch with those things? That you were tricked into buying GT6, and that's why you regret it?

This is an honest question. I'm not saying you shouldn't be disappointed, because obviously you are.

But if I had been in the market for an excellent AI, and a robust career mode, as the top reasons for wanting to buy a racing game, I would've almost certainly passed on GT6 & not bought it in the first place. Because I knew what GT5 was like, and I figured it wouldn't be much different.

And I fully realize the reason I do NOT regret buying GT6 is that those things really don't matter to me one bit. I bought it for reasons that the AI or career mode have 0% impact on. And clearly that's the reason these "game breaking" problems other people see are of no import to me.

Well for starters i passed on GT6 and didn't buy it (and to be honest reading GTP I'm glad i didn't), just because i already suspected PD would deliver the same letdown of a game that GT5 was in my opinion.

When i heard standards would still be there, and then i heard the sounds weren't improved , and then i saw the graphics were very much the same, I already knew before release that; if they didn't bother to fix those things YET again; they wouldn't have bothered neither in giving us better AI and more exciting races. And look what happened; they didn't it's even worse than ever.

And I haven't even mentioned a fraction of all the gripes people are having with GT6 right now (like you and your love for shuffle racing).

I mostly feel a bit bad that PD was able to fool people into buying their very expensive update again, just because of the hype surrounding the series in the press...

Nope, the physics are awesome, now everytime I play I want to use my G25, great feeling of driving, way improved over GT5.
In GT5 your car would react in only 2 different ways, understeer and oversteer according to your car. Now, we finally feel how the car behaves until it starts to oversteer / understeer, in short words, cars feel more alive and very unique now.

Here's the thing... if you know that those things haven't improved since 2001 to your liking... what made you so convinced they would improve in GT6 to your liking that you actually went out & made the purchase to regret it?

The amount of "we listened to feedback" being thrown around for the past year would be a pretty big one (which seems to have amounted to... the new menu system and a somewhat better framerate. Certainly not much more than that from an actual problem fixing perspective). The big partnership announcements PD paraded everywhere would be another one, since all those seem to have lead to at this point is a few extra sponsor graphics occasionally dotted around the game.

So I can absolutely see why people would think of a bait and switch situation, even if not as blatant as the ones in GT5.

I8kq0uJ.gif

then i find out all races have PP restrictions and most have tire restrictions too. that is complete bs

Translation:

This game sucks because I can't buy a x2014 with racing softs and win every race!

I don't really badly regret it, It's just that I was so hyped up and payed 60 euros to get a game with less features than 5.
