Decided to restart my career, this time I chose the virgin. Same setup, pro AI, no aids, 50% aids, tire/fuel sim on.

Qualified 21st at Bahrain and finished 19th, currently running qualifying at Melbourne, so far I'm 12th. :odd:

Im going to restart mine as well. Going to do a little shorter and not take it so "sim" the first time around lol.

Anyone know what song plays when you speed up time as your sitting in the garage during a session?
Its got the lyrics, 'just stay where you are' and a guy's voice in it, sorry if thats none too descriptive that's all I can put down (even though the songs in my head at the moment lol).

As far as I've seen, the song that plays is whatever's being played in the background.

I think I've heard 2-3 different ones now when I've sped up the session.

Will do that next time. :)

I was wondering what the song title/artist was because I like that song. I've tried searching for a soundtrack but having no luck at the moment. One of the other songs is on Forza 3 too.

It's a bug I think, the AI's pace is so ridiculously fast that it's inconsistent compared to the first four races where the AI are laughably slow. It needs to be somewhere in between.
I think during my next practice session, I'm going to attempt to follow Vettel or Button since they have led my sessions so far with the fastest times. Alonso was 4th quickest, but when I followed him, I was able to pass him without too much ease just after the 2nd section of the track.

I also noticed the AI are running the Prime tires near throughout every session. They are also spinning out at the last 2 turns as well.

hi :) can you tell me exactly where this option is please? i'd like to make sure i have it on

thanks 👍

When you select the race weekend, go to change difficulty where you mess with the settings, and you have to scroll down. It isn't real obvious that you can scroll down to access more options.

I'm on Catalunya now too (Full 100% GPs). Up to the race. And yeah, it's really weird. Look at the timings in qualy and practice. No matter what I'm losing 2-3 seconds+ a lap in the middle sector. Had a couple of runs at the race (Put the Lotus on Pole thanks to Wet Q3), but yeah I'm just laughably slow. Can hold up the pack but one mistake puts you dead last and you can't even keep up with the HRTs. I'm thinking of just putting it in the wall and going onto the next race. I don't understand at all.

Hi.

Is it just me, or is the PS3 version a complete cock-up. I played on my friends 360, and the graphics are a WHOLE lot better (mirrors actually working, reflections etc.), and the last time I checked the PS3 was equal if not superior to the 360.

Oh well...:odd:

Can't say I've noticed any differences between the PS3 & 360 versions. Does he have a higher quality TV than you?

Thanks for that - I was beginning to think I was imagining it... I think the 360 version is alot better too, after a direct comparison on my own TV.

I only had to do one race to realise this isnt a sim! I was disappointed for sure because thats how they sold it! But in my opinion the best way to play is with a pad and auto tranny. You can have 'sim' setup elsewhere, aids off for example, but there is such a lack of feedback through my logitech that playing with a wheel is a no no. It just spoils it.

Yesterday I got the pole position in Melbourne with the Virgin. I had intermediate tyres as it was raining, and my time was about 4 seconds quicker than the others I think. All aids off/sims on and the AI set to Legendary. They need to fix this.

I quit in the middle of the race to go to multiplayer but I was holding first place just fine, in the dry.

Right, I've just lost my nose cone.

HOW IS MY FRONT WING STILL ATTACHED? IS IT HELD ON WITH PURE ENTHUSIASM?

Anyone else had this hang at the initial loading screen, as it reels through the hints and tips? Music keeps playing, need to hard reset to get out of it. Is this the 'corrupt save file' bug? I didn't ever get a specific message saying it was.

Really frustrating. Not what I was expecting from codemasters. If it doesn't get sorted soon, this will be going on ebay or back to the store, depending on how malicious I'm feeling.

No, the initial loading screen isn't the fastest. Were the hints and that still moving?

There is supposed to be some patch news coming today (see Patch thread), a patch has been confirmed, I presume we'll be getting a list of fixes and a potential date (at a stretch).

There are also some pointers on the corrupt save bug in the patch thread iirc.

AI issues response:

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/433396-ai-issues-response.html

Hi everyone.

As you are aware work is on-going towards a patch for the game, and we will release details on this as we move through the patch creation process. Your constructive feedback has been invaluable in helping us both identify and work to resolve issues with the game, and we appreciate your detailed posts.

Some of the identified issues have led (understandably) to people making assumptions about the game that are not accurate, so we felt that in order to reassure you and explain better the process which we are going through at the moment, we’d address a few common queries, in particular relating to AI. In putting this post together, we spoke to various people from across the development team, including the leads and specialists who are working directly on addressing the issues that have been raised.

The AI system implemented in F1 2010 is very complex, and is certainly not scripted in any way. Every AI driver is trained with a series of race behaviours such as overtaking, defending a position and slipstreaming etc. On top of these behaviours we have a unique set of characteristics. These characteristics are defined per driver so you’ll notice some subtle differences. Some drivers are better at race starts or are better at overtaking (they look for narrower gaps), or are better in the rain, or are more aggressive, or are better around certain race tracks. We also have a system which can make certain drivers have a particularly good or bad race depending on a number of factors. All of this driver variance is of course combined with the cars themselves also having varying levels of performance.

It’s also important to note that in order to make the tracks as richly detailed as they are, we use far more textures than the consoles can physically hold. As with many games, we actively stream in and out textures based on the position of the player. This, plus the fact we don't simulate many visual effects on the far side of the track from the player - a "level of detail” system employed to save valuable processor time - would mean there would be a significant pop or delay if we were to allow you to switch cameras between drivers on track.

Practice & Qualifying AI
In practice & qualifying (P&Q) there are two fundamental issues which have meant that we had to make some implementation decisions for the AI in F1 2010. These two issues are our jump-to-sector feature and the fast-forward feature that is available on the car monitor in the garage.

The jump-to-sector feature necessarily simulates teleporting a car instantly to a position while the fast-forward feature allows the player to speed up time. The latter prevents us from simulating the actual AI travelling around the track 100% of the time as we cannot accurately simulate 24 cars where we have accelerated the passage of time by as much as a factor of 30. An F1 car can move at over 200mph. With 30 times speedup, we cannot simulate car physics at 6000+mph without losing some fidelity. F1 cars obviously cannot move this fast. We therefore implemented a system whereby the AI times in such circumstances are calculated based on a ‘football management” style simulation model. Using this model all of the race factors, such as the car, driver, weather, tyres, engine, track conditions, traffic are all taken into account and a lap time is produced. These generated times are well considered and guided by a huge amount of data; they are not randomly generated. Nevertheless they remain simulated approximations using this model.

For P&Q sessions we spent a long time experimenting with flipping back and forth between this simulated system and actual AI physical timing, as the fast-forward is engaged and disengaged, but it lead to the potential for subtle exploits which we were not comfortable with. Therefore all AI times in these P&Q sessions use this simulation method.

Race AI
As none of the above feature restrictions are relevant in the race itself, we DO NOT use any other systems in the race other than the AI cars all physically driving the race just as the player does. Other factors also contribute to the AI lap times and the variation in their race pace. These include race start behaviours, their ultimate race pace which takes into account elements such as fuel and tyre degradation, weather, conserving / cooling engines etc, their in and out laps in the pit stop phase and their finishing pace.

We have seen several email and forum threads which suggest that an AI car’s performance is determined by where they are positioned currently in the race, or where they are in relation to the player which absolutely isn’t the case.

Based on some of the feedback we’ve received we are looking into the variation of AI race pace, as well as working hard to address as many of the following issues as possible in the upcoming patch, which aren’t AI specific but are adding to the assumptions that we are using fake or scripted AI:

Pit Stop
Several pit stop issues have been reported;

* The AI not making a mandatory pit stop during a dry race of 20% or more
* The player being forced to wait in the pits before being released
* The player or AI cars becoming stuck in the pit lane
* The use of flashback breaking the AI pit strategies

We’re currently investigating each of these issues and recognise that these would have a significant impact on the way that the race pans out. As ever with fixing these issues it’s a case of finding out how to repeat the problem so that we can track the issues down and fix them.

Split times
A few of you have correctly spotted that the race leader isn’t always the quickest on the first lap of the race. This is an issue whereby the start line is resetting the AI lap timings rather than everyone’s time being taken from when the start lights go out, which of course should be the case on the first lap.

It’s important to also note that the lap times displayed on screen in F1 2010 are compared to the gap to the leader, rather than being split times to the car in front or behind. They are calculated on the time difference within sectors, on a lap by lap basis. For example, the players lap and individual split times on any given lap is compared to the race leader only.

Track reset
There are a few videos and threads where the AI have been seen to spin off and then teleport around the track. Again this isn’t an intentional component of the AI systems. We have a retrieval system that will reset cars to the track if they manage to get out of the world which is intended for use in a number of scenarios such as violent collisions. In these cases it appears that this retrieval system has fired off by mistake.

Race engineer speech
There are a few issues whereby the information which the race engineer is feeding you in relation to gaps to the car in front seems to be at odds with what is happening in the race. Again this isn’t tied into the AI at all. It’s purely speech logic and triggers.

Fuel simulation and tyre degradation
This has been implemented for both players and AI cars. We’ll investigate the drop offs and see if the numbers need tweaking as part of the patch.

As ever your feedback really helps us track down these issues so many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post up as many details as you have. We have already made significant advances against some of the issues thanks to those of you who have contributed a clear and comprehensive account of problems. We will let you know the full details of what the patch will include and when you can expect it as soon as possible.

Rest assured that we do read the forums and your feedback is extremely important to us.

ahh, thanks 👍

i must have tried or had most of the major driving games of the last decade, and i can't find things like that in the menu's? :dunce:

middle age rapidly approching i think :)

Just finished my first career race(100% length), as I said earlier I qualified 7th, but forgot about some penalties I had gotten in practice(no clue where the third came from but the first two were from Vettel cutting me off forcing me to run into him), because of this I fell to 22nd. I had a fairly fast car(somehow had the fastest lap of the race:confused:), problem was that I kept getting slowed down by other cars, it didn't help I spun a couple times. Wound up finishing 17th, could have been around 13th if it wasn't for my mistakes.

It was probably the most fun I've had running in the back, hopefully I can have a better run in Australia, just have to make sure to avoid Vettel(see this game is realistic afterall:lol:)

I qualified three seconds ahead in Q2 at Monaco, and I SUCK at Monaco, and I mean Suck. So there is an issue.

Ehhh this game... Monaco 14th in qualy then black flagged in the race after damaging my car, Istanbul 17th in qualy make my way up to 6th before the pitstops then the polite lollypop man put's me down to 24th after which I recover to 7th. Now I've got pole at Canada in the wet by 7 tenths on my first flying lap in a Lotus on legendary not that it means much.

Using the view without the cockpit in (i guess its all that GT!)

First Practice, im all over the shop, just trying to find the line in Sakhir, yikes i cant find the flow after an hour and half and pick up a five place penalty in the process!
Session 2, im piecing it together and stringing some laps together in the 2.07.xx range building it gradually.
Practice 3, now ive got the feeling and flow going, i discover the need for set ups and come the end of the session im clocking 2.02's

Time for qualifying and bang in a 2.00.8xx in Q1 but cant quite string a great lap together and end up 17th in Q2 demoted to 22nd after the earlier penalty, get a feeling this is about right for a Lotus with a fairly refined setup, overal im impressed with my performance overall for the weekend so far :)

With the 5 or so hours in, im pumped for my first race and go for a switch on the tyre strategy before i head on track, taking the harder tyres for the early part to carry the extra weight and get me a fair way in to the race, then hoping to put some fast ones in toward the end on lighter tanks.

To the lights, i see the others are mostly running Softs, and hoping my strategy pays off, and my team mate Truilli is 2 places back.
The tensions build as we all wait for the lights, holding on about half throttle, as I prepare for the off, then its Go Go Go, gradually squeezing in the gas on the way to what unknown carnage awaits at my first race day turn 1.
I get a reasonable start but Senna gets alongside down the outside as we reach the 150 metre board, breaks on, then feed into the apex through the gaps, just waiting to get punted from anywhere.
Threaded my way through turn 2 and 3 and im 19th, and spend the next 3 laps chasing down 18th, another 2 laps and ive got it, 18th my team target for the race, now to consolidate that and pursue 17th, gradually reeling him in over the next 6 laps as i really get a flow going round the track, the Ai on the softs begin pitting and im screaming down the start finish staight as Barrichello exits the pit, and i just squeeze into turn 1 infront of him, 17th Woohoo!!
The next 6 or 7 laps are a blur as He is all over my rear wing, trying to get past, i dont no what happened to the cars in front but they were in the distance, as i concentrated on the battle, I began to get a bit ragged and really started abusing the tyres, then ping the warning came on, 2 yellow rears, i could feel the grip going off and the time drifting away as i battled to stay ahead of Barrichello.
Another 2 laps go by and im trying to be extra carefull now as i can feel the grip really declining and i feel its still only just over half distance and too early to pit for the softs, i let Barichello go by, to take the pressure off and concentrate on the track, i take a slightly different line and he is through.
What a mistake, ive lost my rythm on wearing tyres and the very next corner in sector two, i spin 180 degrees and am off track....Arghhh!!!
I get it together and spin the rears up and im going the right way again!
Mistake 2, now my tyres are orange, and all of a sudden its a real handfull and in the next lap i have 2 more offs and im 20th and i can hear 21st roaring down behind me, time to pit for the softs.
Clean speedy pit stop but i come out 23rd five places off my target position and i can see just see Truilli my team mate in the distance in front of me.

Time to focus and begin winding down the lap times on the super grippy softs, inching ever closer to him, 4 laps and im on him and past in a flash, a couple more laps and im chasing down Buemi for 21st, I can really see the track rubbered up now and can really feel it too, im consistant for another 3 laps in the 2.00.xxx with my fastest lap of the race a 2.00.182, my engineer urging me to take Buemi, then ping first one yellow rear, followed by another, the lap times begin to fade as Buemi pulls away and i decide to just consolidate and stay in front of Truilli while trying not to overdo the tyres in the final few laps, easing it around as i go.
Im lapped by Webber, Alonso and Vettel, getting out of the way has cost me a lot of time and brought Truilli on my tail for the last 2 laps, I can feel him sniffing my exhaust fumes for the next lap and a half until the Final time around the tight left hand hairpin in Sector two, when with my Now orange rears and yellow fronts, im over eager on the throttle and lose it and round I go, Trulli Roars past and as i spin it back to pursue, im passed by 24th too, which i desperately chase to the line, though in truth they have crossed the line as i round the final corner, making a dash for the flag.

Phew..Im sweating and breathing deep and somehow feel deeply fullfilled.
Never have i had so fun and enjoyment in a race coming last.
Tottaly immersed in the experience.
Imo with tyres and fuel sim on, Legend Ai, no Aids and full rules, being a lap down on the leaders and racing with the bottom 6 is about as much as where there Lotus should be regardless of some of my stellar driving!!

Bugs or not the first 7 hours have been worth every bit the £39.99 bring on Melbourne!👍

I'm starting to get a bit pissed off with this pitting crap now. I was running 9th at Monaco, and lapping the same speed as the rest of the field, apart from the leaders. I pit, and then carry on doing similar lap times to the rest of the field, and I never get back above 15th? It's like half of them aren't pitting. To add even more annoyance to the race, I get a puncture on the last lap and finish 21st!

That's how people should play a game. Get used to the immediate difficulty and get good at it. Shame about the result though.
