Don't know much about Forza. Never played it and probably never will because I have no need to have 2 consoles, but the FM4 car list looks better than the one of GT5. It has a lot of cars I really like that are missing in GT5. I hope Spec2 + DLC will include some of those.

That's the major problem with Kaz, the Gran Turismo series has great potential, but Kaz doesn't know what he wants to do with it and that's why PD might stop making GT within the near future. :( Kaz barely cares about us fans, he just wants to make it his super kei car and Hitler wagon simulator. :(

Now it's released we're going to have several million people who'll become citizens of Gran Turismo. From here on we have to listen to their voice and see what they want and change the game accordingly to match their needs. So Gran Turismo really is just at the starting point, it's really the beginning and we're just going to evolve from here.

We also received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions. It's like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak.

As I mentioned, we're already doing an update on the 27th to refine the usability of the game to make it a better experience. I think it's going to be hard to find an end to that process.

About the car selection, part of GT is like a museum of automotive history, not only a showcase of fastest cars on earth.

And what about the other part, the part that's supposed to be a racing game? I think it's great that GT5 has this historical museum aspect to it. It actually introduces younger gamers to cars that I grew up loving and wanting to drive. But I also want to be able to race all the cars that get my juices flowing now. And GT5 is lacking in that department. Hopefully DLC will address that issue.

Now is correct 👍
As correct as FM4 being an American influenced game has more American cars than GT games.

Excluding all the Japanese brands the car selection in GT5 keep following a museum route clearly.

*PzR Slim, there are other games that focus in a more specific type of cars if you like that. GT always have been a balance of both worlds. Not all people like the FM selection over GT, much people would prefer the GT selection + some of FM highlights.

I see no reason why GT5 and for that matter FM4 can't have the best of both worlds and include as much as possible.

Because there are thousands of different cars in the world and the car list in a game is limited by the development time and resources?

I appreciate that. Ok I'll rephrase, I see no reason why both games can't have a broader spectrum of cars in their respective car list.

Nope. Like I said it may be possible but very rare.

On a road going car straight cut gears are very, very rare as the benefits do not make up for the sheer noise they produce.

In a race car however they are pretty much the norm, noise is a minor consideration and on the track the benefits are almost a mandatory reason to use them.

Straight cut gears are significantly stronger and as such of a massive advantage when used with engines developing massive levels of torque, they are however very noisy and can be trickier to shift with.

Game focus, cultural influences, studio location, brand licenses, etc

Game focus: The real driving simulator or Where dreams are driven, both seem to cover a broad spectrum of cars.

Cultural influences: We are now a multicultural society.

Studio location: Didn't stop them implementing tracks.

Brand licences: Really?

Would it not be easier to just say, 'Yeah, your right, it would be great if both games had a broader spectrum of cars.'?

So, after 30 min of constant burning I managed to wear out 37% of my back tires which is a big let down.

Usually I drive longer races online with friends, and without proper tire wear long distance racing won't be as fun as it could:(

I love to have a pit strategy, I think it's a big part of the fun. When you constantly have to decide whether it is worthwhile to keep pushing or let back to spare some rubber.

Yeah I'll agree with that. I was hoping for better tyre wear and repairable aero. Not game breaking but these are the kinds of details that need attending to to make the game perfect.

I see many valid reasons why that does not happen, you don't see any.

Why I would agree with you?

If you had asked me about merging the both games car selection I would agree that would be great.

Can you please keep comments about the FM4 demo to the FM4 demo thread and not the FM vs GT thread (as this is).

Trying to find what its called, but I know they did a formula-1 game at one point. They've been making/publishing racing sims since as far back as at least 95.

Interesting. Never knew that.

Forza will outsell GT5 during the release month(s) as Forza 4 is a new game, and GT5 is just revived w/ a bit more content.

Nah. Forza will most likely NEVER outsell GT5 at anytime. GT5 destroy FM3 in sales in the first month it was sold pretty much.

This Spec-2 update for GT5 better be one hell of a bombshell just to stay competitive w/ Forza 4

I dont think that Forza can win in overall sales, however... Gran-Turismo has been around longer, and the Playstation series of consoles has always been more accessable and cheaper. 12mil is one hell of a total after all...

12 million? The GT series has sold 63 million units worldwide....

http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

...and if FM4 manages to sell over 6 million units in its first month (to beat GT5's total sales to date) I will be quite frankly amazed.

Don't take that as a dig at FM4 (because my pre-order will be one of those first month copies), as it takes the likes of MW2 to shift those kind of numbers in a launch month (and on multi-platform).

I got the impression machate-man was just refering to months specific to the FM release. I.E. FM sales 10/11-12/11 vs GT 10/11-12/11. Not versus GT's first months, or total sales. This is a scenario that is very much in the realm, but of course you could say the same for a number of games up for release if you just want to compare current monthly sales.

A year old game being outsold by a new games release...why thats unheard off :dunce:

Obviously not.

Playstation 3 is the most expensive current gen console and I think the 360 is far more of an accessible system. You can see that just from the UI. The settings on a PS3 would seriously confuse if you are not tech savvy (far more customisable than the 360) and also the fact LINUX was included kinda showed it was not the "casual audience".

Now is correct 👍

This is one of the most ignorant myths....there are 400 Japanese cars in total. Also japanese cars are some of the best in terms of racing, drifting and everyday cars...it would be much worse if it was a list full of muscle cars and hyper cars.
