Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3

You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages. Decent grammar is expected at all times, including proper usage of capital letters.

Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated 👍

Decent spelling isn't perfect spelling. Nobody is perfect. He left a letter out by accident. No need in throwing the book at him.

YES it does make sense! :grumpy:

You guys are clueless if you think converting something from stereo to mono makes that big of a difference, the source audio doesn't change...you can clearly hear that the sample itself is once again the problem, it will sound like garbage on a 5.1 system the same as through a mono headphone jack.

Question for Scaff -

Is it normal for a car to be redlining in 1st (possibly 2nd, couldn't quite make it out) with the steering wheel turned but zero (or minimal) rear end slip (not sure on the correct phrasing). Happens at approx. 2:55 in the KTM gameplay video. Seems very similar to GT5 in that regard, I'm assuming it's tied in to the lack of torque steer issue.

Whatever you say bud. Believe all you want.

This thread ought to be closed as the OP's question has been answered.

Not really since there was some hint or rather mention they might be looking into gt6 on ps4.

Oh I think tons of people who work in the audio industry could kill you now.

I'm not scaff, I know. I'd like to say something though.

If a car has an open diff this can happen. Although I don't know if the Xbow has an open diff or not.

I'm a producer/sound designer bud, generally in a stereo mix the sound is spread left and right fairly equally aside from mono tracked drums and reverb-less vocals, the approach to GT is the same way, especially the car notes, they are spread across both channels, whether you're listening to one channel or the other doesn't really matter and has absolutely zero effect on the source material. You can hear that the samples are once again the problem, the bland gear shifts, lifeless engine note, these things don't change simply by adding a left or right channel to them, it will enhance it to a certain degree and obviously sound fuller and more complete to your ears, but the fact remains that the samples are terrible, end of story.

People that keep saying it's rumoured TGTT won't be in GT6 please remember the only time we've heard that rumour is from the 'here is what I know thread' from someone claiming to have inside details about GT6. Now that GT6 has been announced for PS3 everything else in that post was 100% untrue. It's therefore likely the 'no TGTT' detail is also made up and untrue.

Good to see you back simon 👍

Reminds me of Once the six skip the three Saving for the four :odd:

Like I already said, the Scirocco R and the KTM XBow have the same engine.

I guess if they had shown the Ariel Atom, there would have been complaints that it sounded like a Honda Civic.

And as a sound designer you really say that the quality of that single channel from a TV's headphone jack is the same as from the PS3s optical output? Seriously?

The sound is a little bit better, but still nowhere near this:

Going from mono to stereo won't change that. Sounds are still to dull.

Furthermore, PD keeps making mistakes about car characteristics. The KTM does not have traction control or ABS, so it should not be available in the settings menu. Same for every historic car. No ABS. No TC. It's just not there.

I'm going to get GT6, but you have to remain honest about the good and bad things of GT (that we know so far). This is what they possibly could still show at E3:

- AI (unknown)
- Damage (unknown)
- Camera angles (capturing a battle for position in stead of focussing on one car only, unknown)
- Extended customization (promised)
- Extended online community (promised)
- Faster UI (semi-confirmed)
- Sound (horrible as it is now)

It's not about going from mono to stereo. Wasn't me who said that, the sound designer did.

My point is that the quality from a TV's heaphone jack can't be as good as from the PS3s optical out.

:)

The thread, by the way:

As you can see, it's all wrong and given the press release says all cars and tracks will return then i'd say TGTT will be there.

Then you clearly have no idea that the sound heard on the X-bow comes from the Scirocco R in GT5.

Ignorance is bliss.

Well yes I do actually, however have you heard the X-Bow on GT6 yourself? What's that, No? Oh.

Jordan has and he says the sound in GT6 is improved over GT5 so there is no way you can say its the VW sound.

Once the demo comes out you may be proved right, until then your not

... and his point was, which as a sound nut I agree with, not going to make a lot of difference. A documentary on paint drying is still a documentary on paint drying whether you're watching it on a 7" black and white TV or the latest 60" 3D high def flatscreen, it's not going to change the program.

You need to have something good to start off with, which in GT's case, are the sound samples themselves. GT's sound lacks either life in every department or totally misses out altogether; intake, turbo, supercharger, exhaust, grit from the road, cockpit movement, chassis noises, brakes, backfire, mechanical noises, the sound of shifting and so on.

All of them add to the enjoyment, immersion and realism. They are all sorely needed, other racing games have been taking care of this for years, it's about time PD got it together, they've had 15 years to do so, the PS3 is more than capable of representing at least something half decent, you don't need a high end gaming PC for a slight bit of decent engine and environment sounds.

So you say that we, knowing GT5's sound since 3 years and having the exact same engine sound already in the game got no clue or right to judge about GT6's sound while Jordan, who didn't have a much clearer experience of the sound than us watching the record, has it?

I don't see how there's any difference. When you listen to GT5 the sounds are dull and the samples are bad. The KTM on that video sounds the same as the Scirocco in GT5. I wouldn't even doubt they simply copied and pasted the sound like they did with most Lamborghini and Ferrari models (if they do it on those, why would they resist from other brands).

So why is your conclusion that it's wrong to say the sounds seem as bad as in GT5?

When did i say anything about the output format? Of course it will sound better, a recorded fart at 30ips will surely sound better than one recorded at 3.75ips, but in the end it's still ******. Maybe having trained ears helps in this instance, if you can't hear that the samples are yet again the problem then i can't help you, with bad source samples the output format has little to no effect on what you're hearing.
