Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3

They haven't taken less than 3 years to produce a full game in a decade*, and we're already at 2.5 since GT5.

*Tourist Trophy sort-of counts, though it recycles a massive amount of GT4.

I know we're going to hear something about it at E3. I just hope it's going to be released on PS3. I'm not quite ready to jump on the next Gen train yet...

Everyone is expecting it.

Part of me sort of wants there to be no information at E3, just to see the ****storm though. I mean, what happens if there's nothing, or some vague "yeah, we're still working on it but we can't tell you anything about it" press release?

Wow, you have a mean streak in you. :D

And there's a teensy possibility we'll get something like that, though the form it would take would be a teaser trailer like we got at E3 2009. And of course that had fans and journalists tearing the sleeves of every SONY spokesperson there as they clamored for something more solid. I'm sure they loved that.

If that did happen, we'd know for sure that GT6 would be a PS4 game, since it would most likely be ready by summer 2014 at the earliest. Of course, even if GT6 is announced this E3, the release date could still slip into next year like it did for GT4, but at least we would know it was coming the proverbial "soon." And we should know some of the details about what we'll be waiting for.

For me, I can't wait to see peoples reactions as they come roaring into the GT6 forums and news section, especially the ones that say "oh GT6 won't come out due to GT5 taking forever" and the ones that complained about GT5 of course. :mischievous:

No way Sony will back this down for E3 2013, time to blow some games out of the water when the very well-known racer arrives. :cool: Hyped.

Given GT5 has come under intense criticism from both hardcore fans and casual players alike, is GTnextgen really a guaranteed system seller?

Seems to me, in chronological order (with overlap), the following would minimise risk and maximise ROI:

- Premium assets developed for GT5 in a manner that allows a degree of future proofing (takes ages);
- GT5 physics engine developed targeting PS3 spec hardware (takes ages);
- Internal specification process for PS4 begins (first party dev involvement);
- GT5 released;
- Premium assets still being developed;
- GTnextgen physic engine begins development targeting initial internal PS4 specs;
- Internal specification for PS4 hardened (first and third party dev involvement);
- GTnextgen physics engine targeting and scope hardened;
- Premium assets still being developed;
- PS4 announced with new IPs (including a driving/racing one - perhaps targeting Forza Horizon territory);
- GT6 announced for PS3, in late Q3/early Q4. Release on PS3 capitalises on large pre-installed userbase and enhances somewhat damaged reputation of the franchise. Uses premium assets that have been in constant development since (and before) release of GT5;
- PS4 launch date announced for late 2013/early 2014;
- PS4 launch line up released, GTnextgen previewed but for late 2014/early 2015 and not the PS4 launch window. Driveclub sold as THE premium driving/racing launch window title (pushes integrated social/sharing features to drive home the core Sony pitch);
- GT6 released;
- Premium asset development still continuing alongside GTnextgen physics engine;
- GTnextgen/nextgen prologue released to enhance sales of PS4 alongside release of PS4 slim (or equivalent) with mild hardware revisions to lower BOM and enhance reliability.

Who knows eh. :)

The thing I'm most curious about is the Standard content, both cars and tracks. I love both of them in GT5. Sure, I'd much rather have everything be of Premium status, but we got what we got, and I'd much, much rather have them than not.

Especially in the case of the game being produced for PS4, where universal 1080p will likely be the norm due to the serious horsepower in the new console, fans will be wanting to see universal photo quality content, and the Standard stuff in GT5 just isn't.

I have a feeling that these assets can be reworked. Simon mentioned shortcuts to speed production. Well, taking a rougher GT4 model gives you a framework to refine, and that should provide a large number of assets to include in GT6 in much less time, both cars and tracks. Foliage and trees can be replaced with something made with Speedtree for example. I don't suppose everyone caught this tidbit, but PS4 is going to be able to tesselate on the fly, or provide additional phantom polygons to existing models in the game to smooth curves and surfaces. Surely this capacity exists now in developer workstations, so they can refine models with a mouse click and cut production time.

I'm with the critics who insist that GT6 not have two levels of content this time, at least not obvious ones. Forza through three editions had cars ported from the original game, and it didn't hurt the series any because the differences were miniscule. And I don't want to lose my Spirra, Cizeta or Lamborghini Countach, though the Lambo is probably safe. And I want to be able to add bodykits and liveries to them all to turn them into race cars. I'm not asking for much. ;)

I agree on everything.

I ll add that, imo, the social features of Driveclub are goint to make it to GT nextgen... ala EA Autolog. And some car models from GT will end up in Driveclub: win/win.

That's what I'm hoping for. I'm just not ready to buy another console yet.

If the PS3 can handle this, I'd be happy (and we know it can). Add a lot of new premium cars and tracks (of course with some classic tracks). And a decent A-spec mode.... Then you got yourself a pretty good game.

No worries CorvetteConquer, I'm pretty sure the PS3 can handle those features. :) I imagine those features making an appearance in GT6, maybe PD must have been working on them to be prepared for their next title hopefully on PS3. Maybe that's why GT6 is coming to PS3 overall.

I remember Lucas Ordonez (first GT Academy winner) mention that GT6 will feature a whole much of tracks (maybe even tracks from GT4) and Willow Springs, Silverstone, and Bathurst. Even Seattle Circuit (a classic GT track). Oh man, I'm getting hyped. *.*

My most favorite part I liked was Lucas said he was helping with the physics for GT6. I'm so excited!! Can't wait to see GT6 at E3 2013! :D

Is the internet glitching for you guys too because things are getting real strange from where I'm sitting.
:) Cool
:lol: WTH

I give-up. I think I'll take up knitting for a few months.

I had missed that. I was assuming this to be so from his remarks, rather than just being shown some stuff because he became the most notorious Gran Turismo poster boy, but I wasn't sure. Polyphony has a lot of input from pro racers of all styles of racing and drifting. But I think someone who comes from a gaming background could have some unique input, comparing how he approached racing in a game compared to what he discovered was different behind the wheel of a real car in a real race.

I'm also hoping that Kaz's experience in motorsports begins to manifest in Gran Turismo. Earth and a good number of us have been asking for more of that "in the event" feel you get at a race, even as a spectator. I know that's not easy to do, but surely Kaz has a few ideas in that regard. And along with that, I'm hoping to see more racing league oriented events in GT6, like my notions for Season and Career Modes, with lots of cars from various leagues, as well as the ability to Race Mod our cars to the specs of those leagues.

You can't see anything? Try another browser.
It's not the internet, it's the damn website. Metacritics is one of the worst I've ever seen.

Just copying from the newegg listing I'm sure. There is no way on earth a small, random Italian retailer knows any more than we do.

That cover looks like Dubai circuit. From the 24Hr Endurance series.

Real or not (100% not I must add), the guy who did it must be a fan and want that track as much as I do with the rest of the 24Hr Endurance series. If they include Blancpain Endurance series in the game it wont be a surprise for me since GT Academy pilots compete there with the Nissan´s.

Good idea to put a track instead of a car, whoever did it.

YES!! Even though that may not be real, this gives PD and Sony a good decision whether GT6 will be on PS3 or PS4. By the looks of it from these retailers. It may very well go on PS3! W00T!!! :D Best idea ever; please do it Sony, I know you want to for the GT fans. :)

EDIT: I meant by the retailers want GT6 on PS3.

My problems with a PS4 GT6:

1. Why would Sony want Drive Club, a brand new exclusive racing series that's trying to get its feet wet, to be in competition with a PS4 Gran Turismo 6? That's suicide.

2. Why would PD waste GT5's operating system?

3. Why ignore PS3's massive fan base?

4. Why did the Sony executive mention GT6 as a PS3 2013 release?

5. Even though I rarely believe a word KY says, he did mention GT6 will be released quite quickly compared to GT5. It's been 2.5 years since GT5 released. A few more months of polish sounds about right for a PS3 November release.

6. Considering how long it took PD to create GT5 on a whole new, more complex system (PS3)...can we expect a PS4 ,T6 in only 3 years?

1. GT6 doesnt have to be in direct competition with Drive Club. If Drive Club is a launch or near launch title, it will reap the benefits of being one of the handful games on the new consoles, perhaps even the only racing game, for a good while. Im not expecting GT6 until April 2014 on the PS4 at the earliest, so it will have plenty of time to sell and not be under GT6's shadow. Also Drive Club is more of an arcade racer and will have its own audience. As long as Drive Club isnt released within a month of GT6, I will buy it.

2. Its already been wasted. The PS3 has been out for 6 years, and we only have one full Gran Turismo on the system, and the second is nowhere in sight. Its time to realize their efforts on the PS3 were not very efficient, and its time to move on to the PS4, as the PS3 era is drawing rapidly to a close.

3. Because its already massive. The only people who do not have a PS3 now are those who cant afford it. When they do get a PS3 at perhaps the next price drop, Im sure a $20 GT5 XL Edition will be more enticing to them then a $60 GT6.

4. Could be a number of reasons. It could simply be wrong or outdated information. Here a Sony executive said GT5 would be arriving Christmas 2009. Obviously he was way off.

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-coming-christmas-2009/

5. Kaz isnt great at keeping promises. Summer 2014 on the PS4 would be 3.5 years, which is a smaller time period then the 5 years from GT4 to GT5. Also there is the possibility PD did indeed intend to release GT6 on the PS3 within 3 years of GT5, but Sony ordered them to move the project to PS4, which would take more time.

6. I think you can expect it in 3.5-4 years. The development issues with GT5 were due to them creating over detailed cars and generally biting off more then the PS3 could chew. With PS4, all the bottlenecks and roadblocks PD faced when creating GT5 should be gone.
