Gran Turismo 6 E3 2013, General discussion(Live streaming links).

Are the views stuck on 463,343 for anyone else?
I went there and watched over an hour ago and it said the same. It also looked like that number had nothing to do with watching the video but was part of the video instead

No, no, they really don't do the same - what you are talking about is simple tesselation, "adaptive" means it adapts to the geometry. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0097849302001267
You can see even in GT6 trailer how it works, that is not catmull clark at all.
Better link to that article.

Parametric-surface tessellation is one of the most important algorithms for CAGD applications. This paper
presents a new parametric-surface tessellation method based on degree reduction: (1) a given parametric surface (or
NURBS surface)
of degrees (p;q) is decomposed into a set of Bezier surfaces, (2) the Bezier surfaces are converted into a
set of bilinear surfaces by applying consecutive stepwise degree reduction processes combined with adaptive
subdivision—in each degree reduction step, a Bezier surface is adaptively subdivided until the approximation error from
degree reduction is smaller than the corresponding step tolerance, (3) the bilinear surfaces are converted into a
triangular net.
See underline.

This is not for polygon surfaces; this is for a different type of surface entirely. NURB surfaces are used in the auto industry, not so much the game industry (think AutoCAD).

The standard models could have been made using the same geometry (NURBs), but if they were, again, converting them to higher resolution polygon geometry would be easy and could have been done for GT5. So most likely they were modeled with polygons that aren't nearly as easy to do this to. You can't just upscale them. Picture polygons as a bitmap images and NURBS as vector files.

So most likely the GT5 models were made at a higher resolution and/or made with NURBS so they can easily be curve analyzed and converted to patches and placed in the engine. Upscaling a GT standard model would not be automated or it would look horrible.

And here is are a few for catmull clark. A much better choice when working with low res polygon subdivision surface geometry (which I don't think standard models work too well with).

http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/cloop/tog2012.pdf(Pixar spec)

No matter which method they use, standard models would not be enhanced (unless they were really lazy in GT5 and have the original high resoution or NURB meshes laying around).

Some games have countdowns, but the times seem quite random. 12 days, 26 days, 33 days... 7 day cycles...

Yeah... It's still at that number for me too
Nope, it just showed me 481272 views. Clean your cookies/cache and try again.

The PS4 "Official PlayStation Used Game Instructional Video" is at 8,446,402 views in 1 day so there is hope. Seeing as it is a "# of views counter" for the entire video, I wonder if we will even get anything special for GT. :boggled:.

It'll be hard to get 5 million for an "interactive" video, it's not mobile friendly, can't even be viewed as a straight video. I've seen the "Greatness Awaits" video itself though. I know I'm not the only person who browses the web almost 99.9999% on a mobile device.

That was a funny viral video though, this...isn't.

I think we just need to watch the video. There is not necessary to interact with it for unlock the exclusive content.

Correct but 5 million is still a lot. Mind you for the Assassin's Creed content it needs 10 million views!

If they had Kevin Butler in the video, it would reach 5 million in a matter of hours. :)

I miss that dude.

Is Gran Turismo presentantion for E3 over? Is there going to be some press conference or anything else going to happen?

Looks like No that's it,seems after the event they had nothing more to show now, hopefully they have more stuff to show during Gamescom

So there was no briefing or presentation done giving us any hints on what to come. I am only hoping now Jordan got an interesting interview, but he needs to corner Kaz else he will answer by not answering :)

No, as I predicted it was just Sony reps that showed a trailer and are on the floor. Kaz is not there.

Wow, it's packed now. My crew who were at E3 (still bummed I had to cancel last minute) posted pics of the booth with all the GT machines running idle and empty from sometime yesterday.

All this lark about tessellation - it's obvious from the video what is happening: adaptive polygon aggregation for polycount reduction (don't ask me how it works, all this mesh topology stuff is mind-bending).

This is the problem with uninformed "journalism", terms get false reputations based on very constrained, application-specific analyses with little regard for the bigger picture.

It's like that guy on IGN who was nervously berated (in an attempt to seem "cool", bro) simply for wondering about the data transfer from storage media to the 8 Gb RAM on PS4. The point was that without HDD installs and maybe even an SSD, load times might be colossal. The response? "NERD!"

Useful.
