Gran Turismo 6 E3 2013, General discussion(Live streaming links).

So, who's going to be counting polygons, or to be more precise, tiles, on moving objects during gameplay?

Oh man, give me a break. I didn't want to start an argument on this, but enough is enough.
First off, I wouldn't feel insulted if someone used the abbreviation ITA refering to italy, as much as I don't think any american in here would feel frustrated if someone used the word "USA" instead of The united states of america. I don't think there are many Mexicans or Texans feeling deprived of their human rights because their tipical food is known as TEX-MEX, either. Now, if Japanese is against GTP rules, so it should be using UK for United kingdom.

Context is everything, that you use other abbreviations as examples of not being offensive shows you don't know a single thing about the particular context of the one that is or might be considered offensive and clearly shows you don't understand that using something that might look to be the same can mean something completely different.

Sometimes making a literal translation or comparison simply doesn't work, it's the meaning or extra meaning a word or abbreviation can acquire through history that makes all the difference.

But the point is, it's all speculation for now. I also have heard from some forum posts that using tessellation on PS3 in real-time makes little sense. And until we hear anything from Kaz/PD (or see some sort of proof in-game), we can't answer that question.
That's strange. I heard the complete opposite. It's supposed to help keep the flow of the game consistent. Again, I'll stop here. There's no benefit in it for you if I keep on.

Waiiiit...

face-palm

No you can see it working while the car was in motion.

Are you talking about the trailer?
Since the trailer showed in-engine graphics (or, as I like to call it: photomode graphics), it doesn't really proof the real-time use of tessellation. It hints at it, sure, but you can't say anything for sure just from that.

Oh, you.

Agreed.

Well yea its all speculation we dont know anything they dont tell us.But since they hinted that the tessellation does indeed adapt while the car is moving, its safe to assume that adaptive tessellation is applied while racing. Also adaptive tessellation is real time, it cant be pre-rendered AFAIK.

Face-palm?

I don't really see how you could tell, without deconstructing the images down to the wireframes, if they were actually using it or not.

It'll just look smoother and better than previous iterations of the game and hardware. Unless you've got some special supernatural shazam sight that is.

;)

I'm just happy to see the cars have suspension movement instead of unsprung chasiss driving around. After looking through this forum, I have to say this. As for the formally know standard cars, it doesn't bother me. It never did. Cause i bet if they had took them all out for GT5, y'all would've been complaining about how theres only 200+ cars and not 1000+. If there were too many american or european cars and not enough japanese cars, y'all would still complain about it. Be grateful it's coming out. If you don't like theGT series anymore? Stop posting here and find a new love. I didn't like GT5 very much in the latter part of its life. I didn't bash it. I just went and drove in rFactor and GTR2. That's the end of my rant.

Do you mean replay or while during racing? Here some pic just take from GT official site, both graphic quality are big different , but that will be enough for me if tessellation are implemented in replay mode :)

If the tesselation were only to be used in offline renders, why go to all the trouble of making it adaptive in real time? It's really the quantity of memory it can free up that simply means it must be applied in gameplay, given GT5's limitations in that regard.

Photomode can already partition the scene to get around the memory limit (which is why hi-res and 3D take a disproportionately long time to render compared with standard shots, it's swapping a lot of buffers about), so that's still a lot of development work and render overhead that is largely unnecessary unless it were being used in real time. Besides, the benefits speak for themselves - higher quality and performance? Bonus.

I'd like to know who said it's not worth it on PS3.

So far no news on E3. I´m at work, so i can´t watch the IGN stream and NeoGAF is down all day, so we have nothing.

It´s a bit frustrating, it´s the first day and all, but we should have something by now.

If those +100 RX-7's, Miata's, and Skyline's were Premium, how would this whole discussion go?

Probably the same, I imagine.

I, for one, wouldn't count the TC DLC in the car count nor as adding to the list of Japanese cars though incidentally it consists of mostly Japanese cars. Not everybody has the same point-of-view.

Considering the RX-7 TC was in the latest video, why shouldn't they be counted? PD counts the 17 Race Modifications as separate cars too.

Not a word on GameTrailers either.

Yep we're anxious to hear some news but on the other hand the participants need to maximize their time. I expect this evening we'll see something.

I'll pay for them, I know that it took more work to produce them than some people care to understand, but they're not unique cars. It's just like not taking into consideration the Race Modified cars. They have value, but as you said about why do people only count the Standards when it suits their argument, I have a solid reason for not counting these cars.

I'll keep certain Skyline's, RX-7's and MX-5's when playing the numbers game, but one example not to is when there's nothing special about them, or if they're the same car, but it's sold in a different country. They're still valuable though.

I was hoping Kaz would transfer all the cars from GT5. I had doubts about keeping as many of the duplicates, but that's the car modeling department's problem and a different argument/discussion.

Yes, they are part of the statistics. But when you use that statistics and claim that PD only cares about Japanese cars, you're using the statistics in a bad way because it's not telling the truth.

If you want to make a statement on what their current philosophy is when it comes to car selection, ten year old data is useless - if you're interested in accurate statistics you must go for the most recent. In this case it's the premium cars.

I was thinking that eran0004 wouldn't have needed to comment or argue about it.
Fogerty_Jr would have had a fair argument, or stance, on his outlook/POV on this whole "too many JDM's" thing.

Having said that, though: I like Japanese cars, I OWN a Japanese car, but I'm just TIRED of seeing my favorite game flooded with skylines. And YES, imho Japanese cars are junk, if compared to Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin or BMW, and we could definitely have seen more of them on GT. I reiterate it, and I'm ready to swear it in front of a court.

$40,000 street cars don't measure up to Italian, German and British supercars. In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet. It's a total strawman position to compare budget sport and everyday Japanese automobiles, which are the majority of the Japanese cars in the game, to Supercars that cost many times more money. I like driving 200-300 hp street cars and so do lots of others, having them in the game is part of what attracts me and many others to GT to begin with. If it were just supercars the game would not be anywhere near as good.

Yep... If it were just super cars then I would never have bought a PS3. One of the best things about GT is the variety of cars, it truly has a little bit of everything. Super cars are cool but I find that I rarely drive them in game and prefer to drive either the more everyday type road cars or the race cars.

I mostly drive race cars, or cars on the verge of being race cars... the BMW M3 GTR is a good example of an almost race car. The new Z4 had me like... O_O ... bet you can't tell that from my avatar... can't wait to drive the Z4 in those new physics!

Yep the M3 GTR Race Car is my favorite race car in GT5 (in spite of it being a standard) and I'm drooling over the Z4M GT3.

I was taking about the street version of the GTR :sly: I was so excited at seeing that Z4, probably a little too excited actually. :D

As if this reinforces the credibility of this next line...

...of a questionable and ridiculous idea.

Every car took work to produce. The TC's, being based off existing cars in the game (and not having to follow any strict dimensions thanks to no real-life counterparts) would take significantly less time than the base car did.

And actually, thanks to that whole imaginary, made-up business, they are definitely unique cars.

It's just like not taking into consideration the Race Modified cars.

Which PD did.

They have value, but as you said about why do people only count the Standards when it suits their argument, I have a solid reason for not counting these cars.

...this? Please, tell me how the MX-5 TC already existed in the game as "the same car", or was sold in a different country (Miata TC?). Nothing special? It's a special edition!

Sense: you don't make any.

I was hoping Kaz would transfer all the cars from GT5. I had doubts about keeping as many of the duplicates, but that's the car modeling department's problem and a different argument/discussion.

It's most certainly not a "problem" for only the car modeling folks. It's a management decision too.

I was thinking that eran0004 wouldn't have needed to comment or argue about it.

Ten year old data is not worthless when the company themselves insists on re-using it.
