How is that different than GT Sport not overtaking before start/finish line ? Though to be fair in GT you can't overtake after start/finish line as you need another 30-40 seconds to catch the next car in line :D And I'm sure The control line changed as someone already mentioned MSC vs Alonso in Monaco where the control line (safety car line was right after Rascas (entry of pitlane and finish lane). Probably after this was changed to be start finish line for easier life of all spectators.
One it's not the actual start of the race, and two they can actually accelerate and keep pace with the car in front of them.

Digital Foundry analysis:

That'd be great if they weren't using a header image from the 2021 Porsche Esports Supercup in iRacing.

So if GT4 was of it's time and there are people who wish PD would make GT7 very much like GT4. How can you expect them to make a game just like one that came out 18 years ago but still be modern?
My thought about that is 17 years ago, GT had almost double the amount of tracks we're getting in GT7. None of the city course is coming back to.
Honestly, besides the visuals, nothing new.
No improved AI, no improved sound for the cars. Penalty system for online was ditched.
To me that mean, without proper AI = Career mode lame, no penalty system = destruction derby simulator for online play. And besides the few extra returning tracks we're getting, I really thought 20 years of experience at technical advancement would bring a better game than what they shown.

That "besides the visuals" is quite a handwave. GT4 ran at a maximum of 480p (or 1080i) and GT7 will run at 4K. What you could get away with graphically in GT4 simply won't cut it two entire display generations down the line - it didn't even work one generation later, as we all saw with Standard cars in GT5.

But that bit about the sound... You can't seriously think the sounds haven't improved from GT4 to GT Sport, never mind GT7...

GT4 had 51 tracks in 33 locations (Some circuits are just slight variations like revisions to Fuji Speedway or Tsukuba wet which would not be considered an independent circuit at present)
Gran Turismo 7 will have 97 tracks across 34 locations at launch more future DLCs

You do realize that 17 years ago GT didn't even have online gameplay, right?

GT4 has way more than 51 tracks when you count the reverse variations.

True, and I wish that GT won't separate reverse variations like what GT4 did. Both on Arcade Mode and GT Mode's Course Selection. GT3 though also still separated the reverse variations with the "II" suffix at the tracks.

Kaz said many things like that in the past 12 years (i started counting around GT5 release lol)
Indeed, and throughout that time the AI and sounds have improved. No reason to think they won't continue to do so.

All I want from the sounds improvement wise is for things like intake and exhaust upgrades to have better or more realistic impacts on the sounds. This is something that I feel Horizon 5 does very well compared to pretty much every other game out there.

The tire model and physics models have been totally revamped.

Out of all the things that Kaz can say to hype up the game (and believe me, I don't trust him as far as I can throw him) this is the one I am 99.9% certain we will actually need to see in action to believe.

More then likely it is just the same as Sport, since that's what GT7 is based around.

Didn't Kaz say two years ago that he would add Formula E to GT Sport? So it is. In the face of everything Kaz promises, I try to pretend I've never heard.

Not sure it was ever promised, simply that discussions had taken place and there was a possibility but never anything concrete.

So be honest guys, how many times have you all watched the State of Play?
Probably twice from start to finish. Many more when counting the times where I’d just skip back and forth between different segments, but over the last few days I have felt done with it.
