How to beat Sophy at 3-5 laps race when we have rolling start at last position about 10 seconds behind 1st car? Sophy must be dumb or to press throttle just about 90% or to have ballast 500 kg.
But it's more interesting to have qualification for grid position, standing starts, longer races... and not so risky and aggressive Sophy

If they add decent AI, be it Sophy or otherwise, the race format is probably going to have to change. Chase-the-rabbit on short races as the main race format is a reasonably recent "innovation", so it wouldn't be unfaithful to the Gran Turismo style to go back to the grid/rolling start with optional qualifying.

But it's unclear whether chase-the-rabbit came about as a way to make best use of a poor AI system, or whether the AI was made intentionally poor because that's what's required to make chase-the-rabbit beatable. If Polyphony is really keen on keeping chase-the-rabbit as the main race format, then even if they're given the best AI in the world they'll still have to neuter it to keep their chosen gameplay style functional.

Which is weird as the Tsukuba Clubman Club+ race has grid start and IMO, decent AI. If only they can put the same AI on all races, the game could have been much more fun.

Good point brother.

I've often thought that if PD simply cranked the AI speed up without changing a single other thing (the easiest of tweaks), I'd be happy to at least have the competition.

As it stands, I'm still on GT6 concocting ridiculous challenges such as sitting on the grid for 40s at the start of 7-lap races.

Contrary to popular opinion, I think this is going to be really good once they release it. At the very least a huge step up to what we have. I see people talking about hte agression they use to pass. But this is against literally the best GT players in the world. Surely once released they will have a toned down version for us commoners. Or at least have sliders to adjust settings.

This is sort of the thing. There's a bit of a tendency for people to assume that the poor AI in Gran Turismo is because Polyphony can't make decent AI. Which is possible, but pretty odd for a well funded and very experienced development studio. I think at this point there's enough evidence to say that's not the case. Sure, even their "good" AI isn't that good, but it's good enough that it would be a marked improvement over most of what we see in campaign races.

The conclusion is that the races where the AI is bad are by design. I feel fairly comfortable saying that Polyphony made the AI the way it is on purpose, and so I don't think adding Sophy will change their mind about how the AI in those races should act. They won't use it just like they're not using their best AI now, because short chase-the-rabbit races don't work if the opponents are competitive on pace and use any defensive racecraft at all.

I just moved to PC games, because while it sucks to not have the career structure of Gran Turismo if I'm going to be doing all the work of altering race conditions anyway it's not that big a step to just make my own career. Which is not to say that I don't miss the Gran Turismo single player style, but it's just too far away from the brilliance that it should have become by now. But it also means I just play less, because I'd rather pay someone to make me a cool campaign and challenges than have to do it all myself.

Yeah, I never go back into "career mode" with the GT series once I've completed it 'though bro'.

Arcade mode all the way baby. I get to choose from my 99 favourites from my garage and of course, I bought all the best cars back in the day so GT6 is still delivering. Just gotta handicap myself is all.

Sophy lacking racecraft? Eh, forget it being implemented in GT7 or not, it's even more worthless to hype up something that'd be still terrible even as a race AI, this is just another display of incompetence in the lack of ability to simulate.

Got one for you, @sirjim73 :D

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Gran Turismo Sophy Exhibition Races at World Series Showdown Video Now Available

Polyphony Digital has released the full videos of the Gran Turismo Sophy AI racing against some of the world’s best drivers at the World Series Showdown in August...
How did get to drive against the Sophy I would be most willing to try I just did it twice yesterday with Audi R8 evo and Audi R8 regular GR3 car beat them at Alsace

Why we still have no news from GT Sophy despite what was supposed to arrive in GT7 before the end of the year, that is to say before November

The year ends in November?
Before the end of the year so before December maybe for me

I don't know what wacky calendar you have where the year ends on October 31st, but mine runs on for two entire months after that.
We must now hope for real news from this AI as much as possible during the world finals for example

Keep in mind when PD does their updates - towards the end of the month.

Provided the Italian GT YouTube manager was correct in their comment that Sophy is coming at the end of the year, it's well within possibility they tease it early December for a mid/late December launch.

Or they don't tease it at all and it randomly drops in an update (most likely)

Until they actually show Sophy running on the same Playstation hardware that's running the game I have zero expectation that it will ever turn up. It may well just be another one of those things that they said during marketing that ends up being too hard and never happens.

We can't sell cars and that's gotta be way easier than getting Sophy working on a PS4.

« We will put it in-game before the end of the year if all goes well » according to the GT TV account. So in theory, it should arrive maximum November, since December is considered the end of a year

well then why Yamauchi and GT TV said that it will arrive in an update to come. And why did you create this project

Technically "before the end of the year" means before midnight on December 31st.

There's no escaping this, no matter how much we might hope otherwise.

It would be amazing if it was NOT in the game before December because GT TV had promised that it should be there before the end of the year so for me in November. Already I hope it can be playable in various modes such as lobbies and custom races for example, not only in missions

I hear you mate, but unfortunately, even if PD delivers the feature/s at 11:59pm on December 31st, it can still say that it "kept its promise".

Like you, I also hope it'll be sooner. Fingers crossed...

Anyway Kazunori Yamauchi is known to create misleading ads like selling our cars and 24 hour races for example. And for some unknown reason, GT and the director are NOT listening to the community. I never have that anyway, Mediatonic and Blizzard are starting to do this kind of practice

Wouldn’t count on it. GT6 I remember buying because they said you could load your GPS data into the game and it would create a track from your GPS route. Did that ever happen? I quit playing the game because the chewbacca tire squeals were too annoying for me.

What do you mean ?
He means they advertised a feature for GT6 pre-release that was set to come in an update that never happened.

So no, is the answer to that one. They added the basic course maker, but the GPS route creation feature never happened.

There was no "promise". It was a chat message almost certainly posted by someone at Sony Italy with only a bit of vague information or even just guessing.

Besides, even if it does arrive, it's just going to be a set of missions. If you're hoping for Sophy to revolutionise the entire AI throughout the game, you're going to be in for a disappointment I'm afraid. GT8 at the earliest for that.

I'd like to know why the updates for this game are so much worse than GTS. Is it withheld due to GT8 or is it withheld on purpose due to game as a service.

Are they preparing a VR2 version. Are the making a PC version. Both would be coding issues and not modelling.

If you watched the team behind GT Sophy videos, they actually did show Sophy running on PS4s. That was how it was trained in the first place, so it has always been able to run on PS4.
