GT1, Slot 1 (19:00), Door #13
I spent almost all my time in GT7 this week practicing for this race, so I was determined to get a good result out of it. Obviously, everyone was in the Supra in this lobby. My goal was to at least finish P5, and that's where I qualified with a 1:32.690. Good start.
The start of the race however, was rather sketchy. Got banged around quite a bit, which fortunately didn't result in me wiping out but I did drop down to 7th by the end of lap 1. And I dropped to 8th before the haripin on lap 3. But fortunately, things improved from there.
I gained a position thanks to 6th getting 0.5 penalty and I then overtook another car at turn 1 on lap 4, putting me in P6. I then began chasing down P5 over the next few laps, overtaking them after they spun on a curb. Going into lap 9, P4 was my next target, and their tires were in really bad shape, probably for battling with 3rd. I caught up and got a better exit than them at the turn before the chicane, allowing me to pull slightly ahead and overtake right there.
Heading into the second half of the race, I pitted for another set of Mediums on lap 12. On the previous lap, 3rd place did a last second dive into the pits, gaining them a 3 second penalty. That stinged for them I'm sure, but at least that was one less driver for me to worry about. Everyone else pitted on the following lap, placing me in 3rd place. I began my chase for P2 over the next several laps, finally catching up and making a move at last corner after getting a smoother run through the chicane. Now on lap 19, it was smooth sailing from there as my tires had more grip than the driver I just passed, but 1st was 4 seconds ahead at this point. I didn't have much hope in catching them unless they made a mistake, which didn't happen. I crossed the line in 2nd for 178 points.
After a rough season in the recent Manufacturers, this was a good morale booster that I needed. Hoping to keep this going in the last rounds at Grand Valley and Road Altanta with the GR Corolla.
