It’s tough to get online racing 100% correct. Trying to police penalties on a computer game without a human reviewing each case your always going to have issue and problems.
The only way you solve a lot of issues I think would be damage. Rather than issue penalties give drivers body damage or engine issues that effects the handling and power for a lap or half a lap. The drivers who are innocent don’t get damage and can carry on as normal. Too many people benefit from punting someone off the track, taking the penalty and then can still recover to get a decent result.
You're assuming, though, that the penalty system which we all know works so well would all of a sudden work for body damage? There already is damage that directly effects the car's ability to drive, albeit for like 30 seconds. The current penalty system can't decide which driver is guilty and which is innocent half the time, so whether it's a time penalty or damage it's all a moot point.

Sorry yeah my point has come across wrong there. Yeah the penalty system in who it gives out penalties too is broken. Why your given a penalty I think is about right. Not seen yet how the new update effects the penalties as I’ve not been in that situation yet.
The point I made about damage was a separate issue to the current penalty system. I think replacing some penalties with heavier damage to the car would stop some people from making lunges into corner as they know the penalty would be more punishable. If I can’t pass a car but I can pass them and take a penalty hit but not lose a position some people will opt for this. If they was damage that impacted them for longer it would cut these people from doing that. Hopefully.

I just think SR needs to actually mean something (make it hard to get to S rank, perhaps even A rank) and full body damage needs to be enabled.

It might suck for a week or so as people keep taking each other out because they're used to being able to do what they usually can, but the fact that SR has a big impact would quickly drag them down the ranks and keep them away from high SR lobbies - with body damage as well there's no claiming back SR from punting someone off and driving relatively clean the rest of the race, if you kill someone, you die too.

Basically how iRacing does it. If you're driving like a maniac, you fall down the order pretty fast. A couple of incidents every now and then doesn't affect you too badly, but if it keeps happening, you really should feel the impact of it.

Got a few race B's in this morning before work. Started from pole twice and won with a 2nd in the middle race.

Still B/S rating but pretty close to A now according to the new little meter.

I guess I've been fortunate not to run into too much carnage. Granted I've not done near as many races as some of you probably have but out of the 40 or so races I've done I've managed to keep my nose clean with the exception of a couple races.

I agree that an iRacing type system would probably help minimize that kind of stuff if not eliminate it.

Forgot to mention I did hop in the Supra to see what the changes felt like and it's a rocket off the corner assuming you get it to turn. I suffered with understeer the few laps I ran it. With a little more time I imagine I could figure it out and beat my WRX time.

You have to brake a smidge earlier to give you a shallower angle to exit the chicanes out of. I knocked 6 tenths of my WRX time after 15 minutes

Yea that's what I started to realize before hopping back in the WRX. Also trailing off the brakes too abruptly really unsettled it. That's with any car, but the Supra seemed to be a little more sensitive to it.

The test means you can start last and see how many cars you can smash into going into turn 1 and lose nothing, it's such a bad idea, could be a very bad idea depending on the track and car choice too.

Anyway I've got an interesting collision for the stewards of :gtplanet: to sort out, since the game does not care anymore. :mischievous:

The driver who loses out says the other driver punted them, the other driver says that they turned into them, who is right? Who should be punished (if anyone)? If so then by how much? Also was this an avoidable incident by both or is it solely down to one of them to prevent it from happening?

Have your say and maybe we'll all reach an understanding and learn something, although probably not. :dopey:

The one losing out is a bit wide and turns a bit more on the kerb, he doesn't turn in on the other car though. The other car is not ahead at corner exit and is thus obligated to leave at least one car width. He leaves almost no room to the line at the point of contact.

This is purely on the overtaker.
It's the passing car's responsibility to overtake in a safe way. They could see the driver in front making a mistake and they should have promptly moved to the left after the chicane. I don't think the car in front "turned on them", probably got wheel spin by touching the gravel with the right rear. I think the blame should go on the car behind. The car in front sticked to the racing line, didn't weave or block, that was just wheel spin.
I do not fully put the fault on the overtaker in this case. Firstly, to answer the easy question, both could have avoided the collision:
  • The trailing car could lifted, moved left, and successfully gained the position.
  • The lead car, upon hitting the dirt, could have lifted, countersteered, and gently moved to the left, losing time and the position. If not for the collision I think they were about to spin... will never know.

While I agree that "in general" it is the responsibility of overtaker to pass cleanly there is a mitigating condition - the lead driver did not maintain full control of his car and that changes things. If two cars are fully on track the inside car must provide one car width. If the outside car fully leaves the track by himself then there is no obligation to give space as it becomes responsibility of the now-off-track car to return safely. In this case the lead car put at least one tire in the dirt and so required a little less than a full car width. The trailing car, while it did not give a full car width, it did give room and took a tighter-than-the-racing-line route. It was not headed for the curbing but I concede it could have left more space but his driving line was already set at the corner apex.

Recall, all of this happened in less than 1 second. I don't think the trailing car was trying to make a pass but was looking for a good exit to make the pass for the next corner. It is hard to put the blame on the trailing car when the lead car put his tire in the dirt on his own accord.

I am at Kyoto trying a few cars to see how the new BOP is working out for Group 3 and jesus H, I have NO FREAKING IDEA if BOP is applied. Cannot see it toggle don or off anywhere in the wretched, bloated, useless menu system. Why is everything SO DAMN HARD to access in this game, it is such a fight, every damn step is a battle, the UI is insanely bad.

Rant over, is the stupid BOP on or not? I am just time trialing and the cars feel like BOP is applied.

My sense is no BoP is applied. Others have surmised that it is intentional. Same with no info on upcoming races. While it may be a bit paternalistic the game masters are discouraging us from practicing in advance of the daily races.

I see that your case is different as you are trying to calibrate the car vs. "learning next weeks track". I expect PD's answer is. Monza - Daily race B, knock yourself out.

The cars don't feel fast enough to be using all their HP. I think BOP is applied. Monza, obviously, is poor to check a car's relative pace.
Try Bathurst. I did one of those Mission this week and it was the 20mins pass the cars race. Was in the Jaguar but my times were pretty equal to last weeks daily. I’m sure BOP was off for the race as the car felt quicker round the turns in the hill but I found I was having to brake a little or lift off earlier.

The Supra is waay too stable. I am a bit iffy with some Group 3 cars, but this one I can just race hard. There really need to be a balance between the too unstable rear end of FR cars at start of GT7 and then hyper stable beasts we are getting.

In daily race shenanigans, I had the pleasure of witnessing karma to a driver 3 times in 2 races. First Race in B, second in lap 3, overtook first place in between the Lesmos, rammed me off out of the second Lesmo. No penalty surprisingly, but we will live. Had an amazing lap 4 to catch up again (was SR C, so not that amazing). Lap 5, overtook him on the way to Ascari, he tried to close down door real late; was ahead of him by the time we turned and then he attempted in what seem like an attempted pit manouvre. Instead, he went flying into the gravel via bouncing off me. Karma 1.

He then battled 3rd to the finish, using quite questionable tactics of forcing 3rd out to the grass before parabolica. On the way to finish line, 3rd place guy took revenge and rammed him into the barrier between pit and the track as Mr Dirty tried to overtake on the right side of the track. This guy the ended up 7th, the pack caught up, with one of the cars finishing 0.01 or so seconds ahead as Mr Dirty recovered. Karma 2.

Second race, I overtook the guy out of first chicane at the start of the race, I had a feeling he was going to ram me in della Roggia, duly did, but I manage to go through the chicane relatively unscathed with no penalty despite cutting it. Mr Dirty driver then was out of line and out of pace for the corner, and thus another car behind caught unawares and hit him into the barrier; they ended up 90 degree to the track and had to do an awkward reverse out of it. Karma 3.

The current GTWS Manufacturer's Cup top 10 qualifiers. Not a single Porsche, Audi, or BMW. Can we get just a grazing touch more realism in 2022? No? Ok..🥲😥

The Gr.3 Porsche might as well be horse drawn. Although I had great success at Interlagos and Bathurst prior I had to (((wring))) its ever loving neck every single time. Don't even get me started on the Audi lol or the Gr.4 Club Sport . Truly sad.

Like someone in this thread said awhile ago, there will always be a meta car, but this much of a meta is ridiculous.

Side note: The Corvette GR3 seems to be well balanced at the moment besides fuel maybe? I managed to snag P2 at the Manufacturer's Race tonight. P1 was also in a Corvette!

I had some good races on Monza yesterday, I was about 95% to DR:A on the bar, im seeing mixed A & B races again.

I was having a really fun race with another driver (TER something) neck and neck for 4 laps as we worked up the positions. I think I'd gone from 13th at start to around 6th, but missed my braking point at the 2nd chicane on the final lap with no where to go (Sorry dude if you're on here) finished 15th, which knocked the DR back a bit on the bar.

I improved my Jag qualifying time yesterday from 49.0 to 48.1 though :)

When I tested the GR Supra earlier in the week, it was 2mph faster than the Jag & WRX on the main straight, I still prefer the Jag though.

I'm trying to get to DR:A before I join any of the new cup races.

My opinion... The pursuer didn't have a real chance to avoid this collision, didn't just try to push on the right by braking later, no, he drove cleanly and thus had a better exit in the left turn. The driver in front of him had just the opposite. He was faster in the right-hand corner, but screwed up the left-hand corner. As a result, he went too far to the outside and lost a lot of speed. The pursuer could only have avoided an accident by braking hard, but the driver in front of him could have just stayed on the edge, slowed down, stabilized the car and then got back on track cleanly. In my opinion, no intention and therefore no punishment necessary. If driver 1 had managed a clean line and thus a clean exit, nothing would have happened.

Wonder if SR has had a tweak, it's dropped me down to A despite nothing really notable or different in the races contact wise and a couple of cleans later I'm not back up in S yet as I expected.

Was having such a frustrating night yesterday with all the ramming on Race B. Was ready to call it a day and then had a really fun race.

Started 5th but soon fighting for the lead and was a close battle for the last 3 laps. I could have been more aggressive when trying to overtake but I didn't want to spoil the race after being the one begging for a clean event.

Yes it has been very frustrating!
I am trying to race clean, but I am being run off the road and rearended all the time. And some of these guys have perfected it to not get any penalties. 1 guy nailed everyone who came near him (me included) no penalties. Wish they had a way to report and penalize these idiots, it is taking all the fun out of it for me.

Got a win in B today... finally! On the last turn of the last lap. Pretty stoked as getting a W has been quite difficult to come by lately. Started P5 and luckily for me there was a lot of fighting ahead right away. Some contact saw a Subaru spin off at Della Rogia. The now three in front of me were really trying to go three-wide through Lesmos which saw a Supra go off. Now in front is a Vette and another Supra; going through Ascari the Vette had a bit of a moment and I was able to get beside - on the inside - on the way to Parabolica. There was a Subaru behind me... the Vette and I were playing nice at the entrance of Parabolica but the Vette got punted by the Subaru.

Now I am ~ 1 second behind P1. Thankfully, P3 & P4 started fighting like rabid animals and fell back more and more as the race went on. My gap to P1 was anywhere between .500-1.250" throughout the next four laps. Last lap, coming out of Ascari I was as close as I'd been the whole race at ~.400. I wasn't really catching down the straight and thought it was over... but I think he got nervous and went deep into Parabolica, then wide on the exit and I went around the inside!

Kinda felt bad for the guy as I know what it's like to be hunted. But, I got over it real quick. First P1 in a Daily in two weeks!

got back to dr A, finally logged on during a busy time… now I remember why I was happier at B.

it’s not even starting 12/14 that is the problem, I have a lot of fun trying to pick up places. The issue is that drivers 10-14 are not programmed to accept losing any places… the amount of dirty racing I saw in the race b 13:10/30 times was insane. People are really using “veer into the faster car in the straightaway” as a strategy, without any penalty…. In a bid to secure 12th place. I am only ever trying to drive past slower cars - not shoot for gaps - but now it’s a risk to pass cars going 20mph slower down the straights.

Someone said “you can ignore yellow flags 95%“

guess i should buy a lottery ticket today.3s for something that was not even my fault.I was in the middle of an overtake with pack in my back when that flag showed up…Stomp hard on brakes or send a prayer were the only solutions.I sent a prayer and lost.Well, someome knows very well that i‘m not a religious person 🙄

Yellow flags infuriated me.
As you say 95% of the time the other cars don’t respect them and some how I end up been the only car who suffers by either been punted off or I pick up a penalty.
Would be better if a yellow flag is out all cars in the yellow flag zone default to a set speed.

I've had a yellow come out when I was side by side with a car and though I slowed to make sure I wasn't passing them I still got the penalty, how on earth I'm meant to avoid that in the moment I don't know.

In a game with ghosted cars on a virtual track the whole yellows system seems a bit redundant.
