Did some Race A's after the manufacturers last night. I wish they would make A's with DR enabled again for a change. I would have made some DR gains as I got a few wins.

The only way this was possible was to start in P2 and more importantly the right side of the track. P1 gets murdered on turn 1 90% of the time.

Such a fun race even though I'm not that much of a fan of the car.

Lobbies are so spread from A+ to C rating. You would think the player numbers would go up if the race was ranked?

I've given the subject quite a lot of thought and I'm actually really content that they have settled on DR off/SR on.

It still encourages clean racing, but it prevents certain players totally smurfing their Driver Rating. I have a player in my friends list who clearly specialises in road car races, he's always near the top of the rankings in quali and he has around 2,500 races yet you never see him in Race B or C. I've competed against him closely on track, also and I've got to say, he doesn't have much in the way of race craft (maybe a symptom of only racing for 7 or 8 minutes at a time).

I would love to earn myself some sweet ranking with a different array of road cards, but over the years I've come to realise Race A is the place to find some fun competition (it is lobby dependent, and certainly an early mistake or incident can have better drivers slugging it out in the mosh pit with those of a lower rank for the rest of the event). As a result, I find them as a good escape from the fierce competition of the 'ranked races'.

When it was both DR/SR both off, it welcomed total bedlam, so I don't think that's the answer. One change I would encourage is they could swap around the race criteria every couple of days. Keep the same car choice but change the venue, or the BoP or the weather... Or something.

I understand what you're saying, and respect your opinion, but I don't agree.
Why should we not get recognition from the game in the form of DR points for being good with street cars?

One could argue that they are more challenging to drive that the typical race cars in B & C races, which have downforce and racing tires. Not to mention high performance suspension, brakes, transmission, etc.

The A races are often one-make, which results in the driver being the biggest reason for success or failure.
In the other two races, you can pick the meta car and gain a performance advantage over folks who drive other cars.

I usually just do race A when the other two combos are not good ones. The lack of DR is a turnoff for me. :indiff:

Maybe a 4th race would satisfy the masses. I'm not expecting that to happen, though.

Wanted to do one more race before the change of roster and I improved my time to a 1:47:7 @ Catalunya, putting me on pole and ended up taking the win, fastest lap and clean race bonus as well, with a 7s gap to P2. Loving my C-account stats right now lol 😂

Blast from the past seeing you joining in again. Been quite a while since you went crickets so hopefully you have a good come back tour 😁

You must have kicked me off of your friends list because I thought you uninstalled and were flat gone 😂😂
🤔 (old days I went by Capt. Slow and recently renamed it fishtail_2)

Not much has changed in that we get some decent combos but mostly not and the penalty system is still worse than when gt7 first kicked off.

Cheers 🍻
Yeah I got so fed up with online play and no single player updates that I had uninstalled the game and cleared my friends list. Went back to the Souls series, Elden Ring, and some Wreckfest.

Heard that there were some updates to the single content and reinstalled just after new years. It's been fun! I'll look you up the next time I load. Same with you Grumpy :)

Nice. I never use that original account because I made Deputy_Fishtail more than a year and a half ago so my username and nickname was the same. Added lots of friends and so it became the only account I use except for just recently adding a euro account to race with some of our gtp members across the pond.

The content has changed a lot being that 2 TTs now run all the time and weekly challenges which are fun to go do see how low of a pp you can still pull off a win with CRB. I feel torn about what to do often because I like all of it. Gtws, gtp TT thread adds a new dimension, dailies and weekly challenges all draw my attention and balancing the time becomes tough.

Used to be a good time practicing the next dailies on the weekends but that has become less fun now it’s a guessing game.

Great that there’re so many ways to enjoy the game based on what your interests are 🍻

How is the penalty system worse now?

Fwiw, I’ve found the racing in B/S lobbies cleaner in recent months than I recall it being (apart from the odd idiot).

Hey guys, nice meeting you all being a long time lurker on this forum especially this thread.

So I have just made the switch from controller to GT DD Pro last week and kept kicking myself for not doing it sooner! Knew I would need some time to get back up to speed but enjoying the process so far.

Created a new profile (EU) for a fresh start with the wheel (Looking for friends btw) and mainly stuck with Daily B this week. Though I would love your opinion on how I can shave off further seconds on Suzuka - felt I have done everything I could!

Firstly just be a bit tidier on the lap.

It was fast but the esseses you attacked too much, the second turn, going slower is better to balance the power out.

Degma one, take more curb and on QT look for much faster entry speed.

I'd probably in the 650 I'd probably take 3rd a few times rather than second to reduce the number of shifts.

Other than that solid lap mate

I totally agree!!!

Race A has turned out to be exactly what I think a Gran Turismo game should be. Unfortunately, it's a classic example of expectation Vs reality for me...

Given the time constraints and the penalty system apparently taking a half day when it comes to slower cars, once you've been edged out or rear ended, the game's up (this is often exacerbated when DR is on the line). You're likely gonna have a pretty lonely time until the next time slot. At least I know if DR is unaffected, I'm not gonna get salty just for a few wasted minutes.

There's nothing about your reply I don't agree with, I just don't think it works in practice.

More proof that I can usually only win from the pole position:

No CRB, but I assume that was because I tried to make the 911 into a Sterrato when my eyes glazed over from lack of a challenge. Fortunately I kept from losing it completely. But I had no trouble keeping focus for the rest of the race, believe me! Now I've gotta go change my shorts... (Queue Bill Engvall's joke about "Bring me the brown pants!")

Same with you Grumpy :)
I just sent you a friend request. Glad to have you back.

Thanks man, appreciate it!

Yeah the weekly challenges have been interesting, spent some time doing those. I really have been enjoying the "completion percentage" area so that I can just go knock things off as I have the time to do it. Definitely a quality of life thing there.

I'll be interested in seeing monday what the new dailies are, spain, suzuka, and fuji aren't my favorites so I haven't really done anything but the lone spain race.

Not saying clean races don’t exist in dailies because I also experience plenty of them and that’s why I keep coming back. SR S is where I always want to live because it’s a minefield with anything less.

When GT7 started, for any contact you received a 2 second penalty.
People complained and it was softened for contact and the less sportsmanlike folks found they could pit you or just flat push you off with side contact and you get the penalty for hitting the wall etc.

Slight variations have been made along the way with damage etc being thrown in but the holes and exploits will always be found and unfortunately used by some.

Didn’t want to take it off topic and start a big debate but also wanted to answer your question. 😉

All you people worrying about not enough clean races, sheesh, I just shake my head. The solution is obvious, people! Get pole position and leave everyone behind you in the dust!!

All silliness aside, I sometimes think leading pole-to-pole is more nerve-wracking than a tightly-fought battle. Especially at Suzuka, where I swear the sand and/or grass tries to reach out and grab my tires.

Of course, I'm not complaining. This is much better than some of the lows I've had over the last few months:

I came frustratingly close to the 2:00's on race B, and then screwed up the last chicane.

I did very few races at Suzuka - love the track but got taken out in so many incidents that I gave up. Race C has been very good to me this week, with 15 wins, mostly taken by pitting on lap 1 then enjoying the clear air. My DR is up to A and 40% - but I'm expecting a big drop in DR in next week's races...

I haven't had much time to race in the past couple of months but was able to finally get back into this week.

I'm amazed at how clean the racing was this week. I don't know if it changed with the DR being shown after the races or it was just a good week. I'm a low A and my best starting position was 8th this week but I've had 80% clean race bonuses and never had a wreck all week. It was good racing.

With that being said suzuka does turn into a 5 lap quali event once everyone gets spaced out.

I also tried out the manufacturers cup for the first time. I wish I would have done it sooner. The quali format makes it exciting.

Looks like it's a pit for a splash of fuel and go?
Maybe. My first race was a two car battle, so I thought, at the front between me and another Ford GT. At the last lap stop we were jumped by a clever Finn in the Test spec version who skipped refueling.

So for the next few races I switched to the Test Spec GT and copied his tactic, it did take a fair bit of short-shifting plus a little lift and coasting to do it, but it's certainly possible. Although I'm not convinced the time saved in the stop was more than I lost by fuel saving.

So a pit is not required?

With my setup guide you’ll be able to set up any Gr car for any daily race and gain a substantial amount of time compared to the stock setup, here below are some of mine and other’s results using my setup, and I am also currently 2nd on the supra GT500 time trial at trial mountain which means that I’m not some yobbo who doesn’t know who he’s talking about 😉
Thanks for sharing. I tried your setting for the nismo GTR at Suzuka and I was able lap more consistently and faster too.. I would be interested to know what BB you use, I find I’m quicker with BB towards rear on the GTR, i can get car to turn in better.

You have to pit, it's in the rules, you can just skip the refuelling part to make it a little quicker.
Roger that.

Derivative thought: The LM Test car has a lower redline vs the LM Race car. No idea why, but the Test version reds at like 6500 whereas the Race version is 7000. Maybe this is enough for people to shift sooner and save some fuel. I dunno, just a thought.

Good week at Suzuka. The more I run here the more I like it.

Sunday was some great racing. Didn't run many but ended better than I started in all of them so won't complain. Through it all had ONE incident with another driver so have to agree with others...races have been very tidy all week. Hope this sticks around.👍

Was finally able to break my win-less streak, too. I'll take any top 5 finish I can get. Hell, some weeks I'm just happy to cross the line in 10th or better...wins are always special, though, even if it's just attrition working to your advantage. Couple of offs so Lady Luck was definitely ridin' shotgun.🤣
