I’ve gone through a couple of cars that I thought would be interesting to tune and I can’t say it makes a bad BoPed car better. The meta still seems to be the meta.

Like I thought the Mustang could be interesting if you can get it to turn, I’ve got it on 2.25 front and 4.10 rear with 4 rear brake balance and it’s still unable to rotate.
Mustang rotates on brakes or on no throttle

I tend to agree with Wombleleader here. I haven't done a Race B in forever because it's so dependant on qualifying and chaos.

About B I’d disagree with this guy. I do agree with him about A and C. B when it’s Gr.3 is usually a nice combo (not Gr.4 though, that’s too slow and boring) and I think there’s definitely a place for a race with race cars with real fuel and tyre rates. The length of C is fine but personally I’m not sold on the wear and fuel rates in that one. I obviously get why, it’s just not so much for me. All three are fine the way they are, IMO. Just a little more change-up in what combo appears in which one and more experimentation in combinations in general would be appreciated.

This is really interesting, both the tunning experimentation and also what they are testing and the fact they are doing it one variable/setting at a time.

I wonder how much impact natural frequency will have 🤔 sardgena is quite smooth so it could have a noticeable effect.
So, not sure where everyone landed on the tuning thing, and also respect that it can be a guarded detail but, I most definitely felt a significant difference in the car. Will it make a non-meta meta? Probably not. But, it CAN make the meta a non-meta, so there's value in figuring it out...or you can simply leave 💩 alone and be just fine. 😁

I ended-up 26 F/R on compression, 42 F/R on rebound (Porsche). BB was set @ -1. Chassis was super controlled, bumps were non-events and traction out of the hairpin was improved. In the end, settings + practice took another four-tenths off my lap to land at 2:01.857 with another three-tenths to go when looking at session results. How much of that was practice -vs- settings I've not yet discerned.

I took my shiny new qt out for a spin with some success...and some spin. Landed a podium or two and had a couple where I was doing great until someone needed my car to make their turn. For instance, was havin' a blast runnin' P3 at one until I got ditched at Degna, and it was FULLY intentional. Oh well. Racing at Suzuka has been a love/hate relationship but I think I'm starting to move the pendulum in a positive direction.

PS - We were just talking about this a couple pages ago so, a huge THANK YOU to those unwitting competitors on my friends list. Some of the most enjoyable driving time I had this weekend was chasing y'all down on the leaderboard. When I finally broke the 2:02 barrier and landed myself at the top, I literally leapt off the couch. I'm old...I shouldn't be leaping anywhere. But the whole time I'm sitting below that first spot, I got Laurence in my head yellin' at me...

EDIT: Is there some reason PD took the oil light on the dashboard away? It's obviously tracked, it used to be there and I'm not even sure when that got ghosted. More importantly, WHY? Seems so easy to tend to....

Wish they'd bring back DR/SR on A (and some decent penalty system of course) Used to enjoy racing the road cars and even though it was slow there was some fantastic racing.

I think the one race with no effect on DR/SR just encourages crap driving on the other two races.

I've not had a chance to race this week's tracks yet, but at least Gr3 isn't hard tyres.

I kept mine a secret until towards the end of the week when I didn't feel I'd be racing as much. What helped the Porsche was stiffening the rear (both compression and rebound) and softening compression front to allow a little more corner traction and rumble strip performance. But I also stiffened the front rebound so it would not lift the front so readily when I got back on the gas after braking. Made for a more composed ride and the stiffer rear made it easier to control slides when they happened. Also I used EzioDash app to track tire temps and settled on +2 brake bias. This prevents the front tires from over heating giving more neutral tire performance so you don't lose front end grip from overheated fronts. WIth the esses at Suzuka being so critical, tuning to keep the front tires cool was paramount.

My final settings I listed in an earlier post but it was:
Front: Compression 27 \ Rebound 32
Rear: Compression 40 \ Rebound 45
Brake Bias: +2 (rear)

Definitely wish DR/SR was back for race A. I think SR should be the same for all races in how it is determined and DR should be weighted based on the race duration. Longer races like race C should award more DR change and a short race like A less. On an hour by hour basis, if you were to rotate races, the potential DR changes should be around the same regardless of race chosen. That way, you can be doing lots of race A if you like that (and not over inflate/deflate your DR) or if you are DR chasing, you can do race C if you prefer and not focus on shorter races where DR turn over is more rapid.

The Genesis was surprisingly popular in Race C this lunchtime, might have to give it a go as long as it's the Gabriel version, otherwise :yuck:

I am absolutely dumbfounded that Race B is only 4 laps. There's way more time in between the races than there is actually racing. What the heck is wrong with these people (PD)? Only 4 laps just encourages people to be overly aggressive.

With that said, I had a decent first race this morning in the 458. I would have finished P3, but in lap 3 the guy behind me tapped me a couple of times at the exact wrong times, and although I did a good job saving it once, the second time eventually lead me to go off track and get a .5 second penalty.

I'm pretty sure the guy who tapped me didn't do it on purpose - just getting used to the track, and made a couple of mistakes. The funny thing is, I wasn't braking too early in either case, and I think the taps probably helped him not take the corners too fast. Glad I could help.

Finished P5. Hopefully this week will be better than the last few weeks, which have looked like this:

This week is a joke all around in this regard. Race A is a comical 3 laps, B is 4 and C is 20 laps... on a circuit with a 50 second laptime. So even that is leaving well north of 10 minutes between races.
No idea what the deal is with that. Puts me off even bothering.

Another short B?. I'm not having much time to race lately. Sitting around waiting longer than the actual race is what stops me jumping on for an hour or so.

To me GT7 is like owning a supercar but being limited to 30mph most of the time. I know the content and races are there but I'm not allowed to make use of it.

Just took a look at C. I have never done Sardegna Road C in reverse before. That's kind of a trip but I also kind of like it. Not 100% about Gr.3 around it though as I predict much carnage; that track could be great with say Mini Coopers. I believe it could be a very DR lucrative track if you can just keep your car on track and allow attrition to happen around you but it could also be a DR disaster if you get caught up with it. The walls are a major hazard.

I've only done a handful of laps so far (with brake area on) so get an idea on braking points so a lot of final adjustments to come. With a mid 0.53s time I think I've begun to figure the track out but I'm sure I need another second ideally. @r_epp I'm coming for your time! :D. I've already switched from the 911 to the apparent meta, Genesis as first lap in the Genesis I took 0.5s off my best 911 and it only dropped from there. I'm currently running BB at +2 again and I've no idea with Natural Frequency yet.

Looks like I need to create a "Normsk" livery for the Genesis and then play with settings and get on learning the track more. Then may try a couple races before deciding if its a NOPE for the week.

The other races don't interest me.

After a complete **** show at suzuka which saw me go from B/S to D/B in the space of 1 evening, I left it alone until Saturday morning. I have recovered to high C/S but I'm half worried about this week's races... I am more concerned about the lack of chat about the races...are they that bad ? Just about to jump in now 🙈

I can only talk from a very false tower as a B driver but I've won 8 so far at Fuji.

A little bit seal clubbing as my QT puts me pole or in the top end for my artificially low B/A

The race is fine, to short on B but other wise ok. T1 hairpin just be cautious off the out brake themselves and it's a fun technical race

Edit: it's Fuji so don't attack the corners, rather brake and accelerate through them

I didn't own a supercar, but I did own a twin-turbo 1995 RX7 here in southern California. And although I didn't have to limit myself to 30mph, it totally sucked not being able to let it loose anywhere.

All that to say that your analogy is spot-on!

Other than if this course was used in any of the single player races, I've never spent any time on it. I started out in the Huracan as I've found it works well for me in Gr 3 races, but switching to the Porsche netted me that 52.2 after about 2 laps. There's definitely more time for me to find before the week is up, but I don't think I can get much seat time, if any, before Thursday.

I was going fine in my first race.. until I got blown out of it by a real smart ass. He then decided to taunt me at the end of the race. He may well regret that

I've only done the one C race so far. Started 3rd in the RCZ, clipped kerb and hit the wall at the end of the first lap , so thought I may as well pit and make use of the clean air.

It worked pretty well as I ended up in a safe 6th by lap 19 - but my left rear tyre gave up completely and I finished 11th. My lap times had stayed pretty consistent and the grip loss was very sudden - like a puncture.

Race A and B seem good fun - just too short to make up any ground if you're not near the front.

Which car were you running. Wondering if some are better than others?
I'm enjoying the RX-Vision for race C, tried the Genesis, but didn't like it so much.

Just now I was pondering on skipping the tyre change and making them last the distance, glad I didn't after your warning. it's not a track where I want to be caught out with a loss of grip.

Race A is fun. As always a good result depends on getting away at the front. The car / track combo is great.
I like it too, even though we have had the Alpine A110 in race A previously. Length obviously could be altered but that’s been covered already.

I must say, I'm really enjoying race b this evening. Apart from the first race it has been pretty clean and fun racing. Shame it is so short though 🙈🙈
I agree, so far. I've had 2 races, and they've been clean and fun. I obviously need a better QT, though, because starting P9 kind of sucks. The good thing is, even being in the middle of the pack, no real drama.

The last 1 (00:30) was rough going as I ended up in a lobby with C/C up to C/S, I'm so close to getting back to a B/S, I really don't need that hassle 🤣🤣🤣 1 more for me and its time for bed !! No wins but hopefully tomorrow evening will finally see 1 🤞

I just did my first race C of the week and I have to say that for all the complaints here about its length, it was fun!

My QT of 0:52.4 something is not competitive enough yet for high B low A lobbies so I have to work on that to find speed. I started Q11 and first lap in the esses I clip the barrier (+1.5s penalty) which throws me off and I hit the barrier again (another +1.5s penalty). That drops me over 3s on lap two but the benefit was that I then had clean air. I also wasn't last - but pretty much at the back.

There were quite a lot of cars making dates with the barrier and a few penalties a well. I was going to push the pit as long as I did not have traffic but on lap 9 my left rear was beginning to slide in corners and the rears weren't doing well in general (so perhaps a +2 BB is not good for this race). I dive in the pits lap 10 or 11 (most had come in by lap 9). I come out in 8th (with very few still to pit) and still have clean air. Another car gets a penalty and that allows me to gain 7th which is where I finished.

Overall, turned out to be a good race but my pace was way off the leader. I have some work to do...

I did find a natural damper setting that appeared to help but I'm keeping that secret for now. Anyway, "tuning" still needs a lot more work.
