Yeah I should be okay, although at that time on a Friday night my body is usually preparing for the onslought of jagabombs, my mind might not be able to compute the regulations of an Indycar race.

So what's the deal with Friday, a time trial run around to familiarize ourselves?

Well I was about to reply, then refreshed and saw matty and tom's replies where they said what I was going to say (such is it being like F1 winter testing).

Here's the part of the OP that talks about the testing:
...and will involve lots of 20 or so lap sessions in 'race mode', but this is no race. You can put in as many or as few laps as you want, spend 20 minutes in the pits if you want, but the aim is to post the quickest time possible; each session will obviously end shortly after somebody has completed the allotted number of 'race' laps, in which case I'll record all times from that session and just start another. I'll then compile all the fastest laps and post them on the thread; hide your speed in pre-season or go for the fastest time regardless, it's your decision.

So yeah, do what you want in that time. Try to be fastest, see what your tyre wear is like in race conditions, get used to racing in traffic, see how much fuel is used in 20 laps, and so on.

Maybe Matty....we'll do at least a couple of timed sessions first. I'm thinking 20 laps each should be a decent amount bearing in mind the room will be open from 21:00 to 00:00.

Sure, but just give 5-8 laps for the short races if there included..

I may bring cake.. ;)

Yeah a few laps will be fine, this is probably how it will pan out....

-Room Opening @ 21:00BST
-20 lap timed session starts after room has filled up
-Save replay and demonstration of standing start procedure
-2nd 20 lap timed session
-Short races
-I'll be gone by 00:00BST

Keep the cake, I don't have much of a sweet tooth.

Oh so those 20 lap sessions are in a race? So if somebody completes them then the session is up?

And like the idea and agenda.

I'll keep my cake so. 👍

Yup, I don't take your word for your fastest lap, I look over the replay and record it. Even if somebody goes flat out for 20 laps it should take them around 35-40 minutes so you've got plenty of time.

You do that mate 👍

Looking forward to it, although knowing me I'm just gonna try and win the 'race' :dopey:

And I never actually had any cake so essentially I'm just saving a few quid

Practice and some short races I believe. But what we most definitely don't want is a repeat of last years opener at Indianapolis, over 10 cautions and two permanent bans from the series. And most memorably me leading from the last caution and thinking there was another lap staying at a slow pace and coming 4th. :grumpy:

Indianapolis?

Yeah, you know that almost rectangular track in a state called Indianapolis? That one ;)

TomMcD
I'm already looking forward to the Indy 500 :D

I don't like long races.. But I shall try and struggle through it in any case.

It's a good thing you didn't race in the Daytona 500 then, the last 30 laps of that race were absolute murder, my legs were numb and my arms felt like they were about to fall off. Almost 3 and a half hours of wheel to wheel stuff, a w e s o m e.

Can't beat long races :sly:

How long will our Indy 500 be.. :nervous:

Indianapolis?

Don't forget you beat me by barely anything in one of our races there, so why don't you just lower your blood pressure and have some of Matty's cake. :)

This also reminds me that I need to actually tune my Indy/Daytona setup (same setup for both tracks), since Tom's setup is faster than mine. I've not touched the setup since I found it when searching ages ago. Hopefully it's as easy as tuning for NASCAR at Indy used to be for me (before dirty air was introduced).

On another note: It's very hard for me to hold the bottom lane at Daytona in these cars well enough that nobody can sneak inside, or without putting a wheel below the line like I did twice in the 500. As well as being on a DS3 rather than a wheel, my TV also has some slight input lag.

Oh yeah, I forgot that I am the Indy tune master :sly:

That was without a doubt one of the best laps I have ever driven.

Oh my god......

You don't have a wheel?!?!?!?

As soon as I saw your time I knew I couldn't do anything about it. *Time pops up* *nope.avi*

Obviously not..............

Just surprised, I thought it was common knowledge.

I was surprised myself Joe, it was a .109 I think, quite a few tenths faster than anyone else. My tune is very simple so it's a wonder it works so well.

EDIT: I used to use X and [] before I got my DFGT at Christmas as well mate, it just felt better even though people said using the triggers gave you better throttle modulation and control.

Can't remember what my time was now, something around a .3xx or .4xx I think.

So to summarise, Matty: DS3, X and [] for throttle and brake, and slight input lag.

EDIT: My Indy NASCAR tune is very simple too Tom. I guess simple works best at Indy.

I used to use R2 and L2 before I got my DFGT, I also have input lag, but I don't know any better then it so it's like second nature to me now..

Also Tom, may I 'borrow' your Indy tune for... Indy.. :D

I've adjusted to it too. It's only really noticeable now when I use the look back button.

And why borrow a tune that'll be old news once the new season arrives? :sly:

Yes you may 'borrow' it Matty, as long as I may 'borrow' Anarchy's road course tune.

I'll send you it tomorrow 👍

Because its better then mine :)

Am.. Anarchy's tune is well, modified but I'll send it in any case.. :)

Don't worry Matty, Joe can't make up 3 tenths, my tune is unbeatable. Me, you and Akmuq will lock out the front row :sly:

I wish you hadn't said that and just let us all know it silently...

And I'll send you what I was using, but it's not quite Anarchy's tune, more so my rendition of it..

I get all my tunes from searching around GTP. So much easier to test a few potential setups in order to find the best (then possibly apply small tweaks), than to spend ages on your own.

The only setups I made myself are my (old) NASCAR Daytona race setup that nearly grabbed the pole for our most recent Daytona 500 against Niop's qualifying setup, Ford's alternate/backup Indy NASCAR setup (the setup that isn't Homeslice's one and that nobody else has ever seen or used), and my NASCAR road course core setup.

EDIT: Sure I can find 3-4 tenths. I know how much more my setup can give if I adjust some basic stuff. Maybe even just a single setting if it works like my NASCAR setup.

Time to check a replay from an Indy race to see how much more my car can give. (Thanks to our good old friend- tyre wear)
