oh i know sphinx won't be doing it all solo but that wasn't quite what i was asking. last night when i heard the divisions had been posted i couldn't find where so someone had to post me a link. this is the only forum i've ever used so i struggle to navigate properly so i just wanted to know how will we know when the event's will be held. don't want to miss out through being a bit thick.:dunce:

Oh I know what you meant, but we're working on a system that might sort something like this out.....automated PMs perhaps...dunno yet. ;)
Generally, PMs will be sent when things happen though.

(discussing the laptimes).

Well sphinx,
you've had so many compliments, i guess you can take a bit of nagging from someone that wants to discuss the laptimes ;p

Before the times were entered it made some sense we could not discuss the laptimes (not to me though). but now that the entry for the trial1 has ended i'm really wondering what that mystery is all about. (edit: after posting the only good reason i could find for not discussing was to prevent someone from making up a faster time then was actually driven with sectortimes that would be reasonable for the time)

The wrs qualifyer plainly states the timedifference between the drivers, and i'm probably blind since i don't see the big letters "do not discuss gtp_qualifyer" anymore on a logical place...(i did see them when the this TT was active).

I'm just looking for a reasonable philosophy that's keeping me from discussing something i'm really interested in discussing.

I suspect that just like the WRS, the qualifier won't change. This way, anyone who qualifies after the registry is re-opened can be directly compared and placed into the existing divisions. How else would Sphinx be able to accuretely place a new member if they were running a different qualifier?

OK, I'll ask the obvious question:

Is there going to be dope testing?

I think you should start with that Timppaq chappie...

;)

lovely, thank's Ardus.:)

Please read what I wrote in Vaxen's new thread about creating a web front-end to accomodate the new situation here.

Seeing all those names really gives you some idea of the amount of work Sphinx has done for this... a massive thanks to Sphinx for getting all this organised and maintained so well...

Yep nicely done, Sphinx.

Congrats to all that ran the qualifier, looking forward to some future events and hopefully PD will give us the update were all looking for.👍

I probably should have practiced a little more before my final entry, a little too much COD4 and Guitar Hero, but oh well. And seeing as I am on the lower side of the board, and when I say low I mean low, will I be able to move up the ranks? Sorry if this questioned has already been answered.

It hasn't ended, It will reopen shortly.

It's a lot harder and therefore a better indicator of driving ability to get a lap time without any prior knowledge of lap time/splits for each division.

The wrs qualifyer plainly states the timedifference between the drivers

But not being a WRS member yourself, you have no idea what is achievable in terms of lap times and the cut off points for each division.

Normally I would've posted the time differences, but seeing it's possible to see the top times on the online database it is therefore easy for any new members to work it all out. We don't want that.

, and i'm probably blind since i don't see the big letters "do not discuss gtp_qualifyer" anymore on a logical place...

Forgive me for not finding time to put something up.

I quite often drive whilst well in excess of the drink driving limit... am I up for a 12 month DQ?

Division 5 Silver qualifier here. It was my girlfriend's fault of course. While I was driving, I was worried she might be putting the moves on my crew chief. On top of that, he and I haven't been getting along the past several weeks. His tuning adjustments mid-race are always off for my style and he doesn't take criticism very well. Maybe it's time I moved to another team? No one ever told me it would be this hard trying to be a professional racer.........

edit: Thanks for putting this together Sphinx. I'm looking forward to some organized competition. It's all about the competition.

Division 5 silver qualifier right here as well... heheeh my excuse... I hate mid-engined cars... :) they dont like my driving style or Im just to aggressive with them... oh well, I'm looking forward to some clean competitive racing! Many thanks go out to Spihinx for organizing everything! See you on the tracks!

I'm quite excited about this GTP Division thing, congrats to everyone whatever position they qualified and thanks to Sphinx for organizing this event.

A question to Sphinx, I know this may sound absurd since the divisions barely got started but do you think that maybe there be a special annual event where there will be a knock out tournament of people regardless of their divisions similar to the English FA Cup in Football/Soccer? For example, each person is assigned a number from 1-364 (at the moment) and is drawn into some random raffle for a race of 12 people. Say the top 4 finishers of that race qualify to the next round while the last 8 is eliminated. This carries on to the final race where the winner will be crowned the annual winner. I think it gives a chance for people to meet a wider audience within the GTP community as well as giving out some potential "giant-killing" results. Or maybe i'm thinking way too ahead!

Thats what I was thinking these last few days, I think its a brilliant idea for the future when we have more cars and tracks to choose from :)

Gold division 2 here, didn't know where I would end up but put a bit of effort to be in the top 100 (online database). Remaining in this division will be very difficult for sure!
See you on the track!

I missed the deadline.

A couple questions:

Was it always the 14th? If not, why was it changed? [edit: nevermind, I see the PM got buried]
When registration re-opens, will you be using the same test, or am I going to have to grind out some more laps on/in a different track/car?

Thanks.

Same track and car.

Confirmed, but it will most likely change after the autumn update.

:( damn had hard enough time with F430 already lol, Please change it lol any ideas Sphinx on what car we all using next? You should do a Poll :P

Sphinx - are you aware that I have you profile bookmarked and it's the first page I go to when I log into GTP of a morning?

Your Visitor Messages are better than watching a soap and a reality TV show smushed together into one.

Just looked at it myself for the first time... 'This page has had 1,689 visitors' LMFAO... most have had 50-100!!

Sorry if this has been answered , but I found my self in div 3 silver .... now how will all this work ? I have not been on any GTP organized races before so I really am clueless in this department. Also another question is about the gold silver and bronze sub divisions , are they according to times or regions (PAL, NTSC) . A question that come to mind is since we don't have a private rooms yet how would I be able to join an organized race for example?

This hasn't been entirely determined (or at least revealed) yet, so stay tuned for more details. Options include organized time trials (much like the qualifier competition, but with times revealed when the competition is concluded), offline races against AI cars, comparing overall times, and online races.
Also another question is about the gold silver and bronze sub divisions , are they according to times or regions (PAL, NTSC) .
Gold/Silver/Bronze subdivisions were determined entirely by time. In most cases, competition will be among all racers in your division number, though subdivision may be used if smaller groupings are required.

Currently, we are running many informal events online. We agree to meet up at a specific time on a specific online event. We synchronize by all joining at the same second, and hope that we end up in the same race. It doesn't always work out, and interlopers often cause problems for the participants, but on the balance it's a better experience than racing with all random public opponents. Check out this forum to see what were doing on an informal level.

I think Sphinx should change his nick to "F.A.Q." to describe the contents of his visitor box
