đź‘Ť This is exactly how it is for me.
I also never load my best time ghost when I start a new session, I start from scratch and race a new ghost.
I find that if you chase the same ghost for too long, you do nothing different lap after lap.

exactly

Yep, that's when you know its time to step back and take a break for awhile. I have found that in any given session, I usually peak about 30-45 minutes in and lasts about 30 minutes. After that, my efforts start falling off and I end up doing nothing but running meaningless laps. I take about an hour break, then go right back to it...repeating the process. Other people may find different experiences, but that's how it works for me.

Yeah i have to walk away or i go nutz!

Well the last few days will mean no different to me really, after a week away I'll be so out of rhythm it will be horrific.

It's all in the seat of my pants, my butt can only 30-45 mins and it needs a break!! :D

Brands Hatch has hooked me, I'm having so much fun trying to scrape every last tenth out of this combo. At first I was having trouble with the car, but now the thing is a dream. I don't want to say to much about my approach with the car for fear of upsetting the over worked mods but man that Bimmer is fun.

Can't wait to see where I qualify, I'm not sure if I really belong in d1 but I sure like seeing it in my sig. I also like facing off against Matt and Mohit as often as possible.

A huge thanks to the mods for all their hard work, I have no idea how you all find the time.

Always a pleasure Baron, always ends up going down to the wire between the three of us!

But yeah qualify in D1 because that's where I am planning to be :). Unless I messed up. I hate flying blind lol.

I really like the two combos. They use different skill sets and the average of the two will be a tell all about were a driver belongs.

I like to find the clipping points on the track and leave a little cushion so I have an easy to judge replay. Consistency is the standard I use to get my speed down. I would rather run endless laps clean at a little slower pace then that extra 2% and red light 90% of my session.

Some think that this is a competition but it's not, it's the bed you make for your self and you have to sleep in it. I think I can dig deeper by running 98% of the width of the track and wire it, than I can by blazing at 105% and not have anything to build on except a bunch of red times.

Little showed me the spool up trick for the beginning of the first lap of Willow and it is considerably faster but that will only mean that I am digging a grave for my self in that everyone will know what was done by the F/L crossing speed and it's a rhythm destroyer.

Good luck everyone and have a merry Christmas đź‘Ť

I am taking the last corner differently to get that extra 2 kmh (1.25 mph). It does break my rhythm but gets me that slight advantage. It's how I roll ;)

Haven't seen Little in forever, hoping he runs more often in GT6!

Merry Christmas to you and your fam :).

As long as you don't drive outside the cones on the last corner then that's fine ;)

And may I take the chance to wish everyone in the WRS a very merry Christmas!

Merry christmas everybody. Glad i must take break from the qualifier. Although i will miss flying in that Beemer, so much fun.

Does anyone (or everyone) do the hot lap cold lap hot lap way, so your not always pushing it but setting yourself up for one each time??

No, I like to get in a rhythm. I used to reset each time I messed up, but that only frustrates more. I like to focus on driving clean laps and following the ideal line now, that way you get into a nice rhythm and that's much more productive then forcing every last 0.01% out of each lap and driving 70% dirty laps. If I mess up I focus on the perfect line for the remaining of the lap and especially getting a good exit out of the last corner.

Oh my, no! First lap cold tyres again every time you restart.
I do about the same as Joost mentioned.
Cold tyres make no difference...
The only thing I do sometimes, instead of restarting immediately. If I only make a small mistake I push harder after that and see if I can make up time on my ghost for the rest of the lap :)

We have had debates in here about cold tires and first laps... For the record, I agree with you that they make no difference... As long as tire wear is off.

Maybe it's just in my head but I feel the mégane understeers more on the first lap than the second.
The BMW is way more sensitive to throttle oversteer coming out of the turns on the first lap.

No difference in tyre temp, and the understeer isn't bad if your early into the corner, its a pretty nice car to thrash around. Quite enjoying this. Compared to this the BMW feels like its floating on air, will have to get used to the downforce :)

DTM
Understeer in the RS ain't that bad, aslong as you turn in early. If you want to take a right turn tomorrow, you steer in today

I'm trying to use this approach with the BMW but it still doesn't turn:

I just don't understand this car

That 3rd shot and the last one are awesome đź‘Ť

I've pretty much hit my limit with the Megane, could spend hours pursuing that extra little bit but wouldn't be realistic of how much time I'll spend on each week's combo.

I've been changing colours every time I come back to the car and each time I seem to do a better lap :P

The BMW is fastest in white, but don't tell too many people.

The BMW is alot of fun to drive, it's my first try with this car and I think I'm already near my target time. Just a few more corners that need improving. The Megane on the other hand... needs more work.

I've often run my best lap on my first lap in the Time Trials. At one point, we were even theorizing that the tires had more grip on that first lap, with tire wear off, of course.

In general, I prefer the get in rhythm and just run laps approach to going faster. Typically, I only reset if I make a big mistake that's already thrown me out of rhythm, i.e. putting the car in a sand trap. In those cases, you spend the next 2 corners trying to keep it on the track from all the crap on the tires, and it's sometimes better to just give myself a clean slate.

The best lap on first lap thing would tend to happen when I exit to save a best lap, come back in, and immediately improve. It's more likely that I'm just in rhythm than it is that the tires are actually faster on that outlap. Even if they are different, it's not really enough to affect overall performance in a significant way.
