I think it will be very interesting to see how these specs turns out when racing together. I have no clue which one will be the best as they all posted very similar laptimes on both slow and fast tracks.

For you who haven't got a clue what to pick, here is what I found out when testing them. These are of course just my opinions, so take it for what its worth.

All GTRs:
This is a very easy car to tune and drive. Good alrounder. In many cases this has been the car everybody wants to have, but it might not the fastest this time. It wasn't for me.

Lexus Petronas/Denso:
Very similar to the GTR but with a little more stable rear. Compared to the GTR, I think the Lexus P/D will be a little better on twisty track and the GTR a little better fast tracks.

Lexus Bandai:
Don't get fooled of its lower 35/60 max downforce. When driving it, it doesn't seem to have less grip than the Petronas/Denso. And it has a higher straight line speed. This car might surprise.

Lexus Eneos:
A very different Lexus. It almost feel like a mix between a Lexus and a NSX. Its the fastest Lexus down the straight, but you have to be able to control its lively rear.

NSX:
At this low PP, even if the NSX still is a challange to drive, its not as hard as at higher PPs (power). For someone who knows how to tune and drive it, the NSX might very well win this time.

Supra Yellowhat:
This car is even faster down the straight than the NSX, and its not difficult to drive. Sounds like a dream car, but you will have to solve its inherant understear and watch out for excessive front tire wear.

Castrol Supra:
With its 50/70 downforce, this is the most flexible car when you're allowed change downforce to get more/less HP. For the guy who wants to spend time testing different settings at each track, you might very well win the championship with this car. Its a bit heavier, but that Turbo gets it moving.

Nissan Xanavi Z:
With its huge torque this might very well be the best car for slow tracks. But when that big turbo kicks in you better be prepared. Not the easiest car to control and to avoid power spins. But if you can tune it well other cars will struggle to keep up. And its not that slow down the straight as well.

Hope this might help some of you less experianced guys to find the car that suits you.

Really depends on the driver/track/tune.
I can't really tell you what you'll experience, you have to test exact things like that out yourself.

I usually run the rears out first on any car, at any track. I struggle to make the front tires wear more, just to even them out.:dopey:
 
Just one question regarding the specs: Are we allowed to put any mods into the cars(Turbo, Engine Stage, etc). If not, how are you going to catch those people who will install the mods and then power limit them? I think some mods don't change the cars' rev limit or any noticeable change.

The specs sound great, low PP, less power. But is it an anti-cheat spec? Is it easy to catch the cheaters?

Edit: Just read that mods are unlimited. Hmm, aren't these PP levels stock ones? The GTR stock goes over 596PP, so with mods unlimited everyone will just put all the parts into the car and then power limit them. :(
 
I have now run all the GT300 cars 15 laps at Suzuka. Stock setup apart from the current specs.

I wanted to find out about tyre wear, Celica and the Garaiyas are the winners, RX-7's are also good, Imprezas losing out.

Times after 10 laps (before tyre wear gets ridiculous), corrected for bigger mistakes:

Garaiya '08: 21:18,68
Garaiya '03: 21:16,93
IS350: 21:18,37
Impreza '08: 21:16,81
Impreza '03: 21:19,44
RX-7 '06: 21:21,40
RX-7 '04: 21:17,46
MR-S: 21:20,98
Celica: 21:18,57

Average 21:18,74.

Conclusions:
  • RX-7 '06 too slow. Much more twitchy than the '04, and it just feels like nothing happens when you floor it.
  • MR-S not as stellar as I thought, but I was a tired when I did that, so probably ok.
  • Impreza '08 is too fast. It also has the worst tyre wear by far, but that can be mitigated rather easy without losing the speed and handling advantage.
  • I think I just found a good rhythm with the Garaiya '03, not sure.
I have no idea yet how much to add or subtract, or how, these are just my findings so far. I am aware the clock is ticking, if there is still time I will test some more tomorrow with reasonable tunes and without tyre wear.

It would be nice to hear some opinions from some of those who ran in the previous seasons.

We can catch the cheaters. No worry for that.

A little exemple for the GTR:
Stock: Max is 9000rpm (so, no engine upgrade installed) - No turbo jauge
Tuned: Max is 12000rpm (so, engine upgrade installed) - Turbo jauge
You can easily check this on the "watch mode" ;)

@cicua: Could you please test the Honda S2000 LM Race Car (full tuned)? I really think this car can fight with the others, and if yes, i'd like to add it on the spoiler.

Yes and no. You can lower aero and use less power limiter, and/or you can add upgrades and reduce aero even further.

Breaking my last one in now, should get some runs tonight.
I'm tentative about the 08 Subaru, because being 4WD makes it easier to run good laps, but the tire wear being worse can also mean extra pit stops in races. As you know, 1 extra pit stop = 25-30 seconds.

Looking at the specs I do see a few oddities between what you would think should be almost identical cars, should have better insight after some runs.

From what I heard, the S2000LM and Altezza touring car simply don't have the grip.
I do plan to give the NSX RM a run tonight just in case, but I also heard that was to slow too.

Apologies if i've been on and off with my activity, i hope it hasn't damaged some of the interest in the league. Sponsor is still A-ok! I'm still in this 100% - but not right at this moment. I'll be really busy this week as im trying to finish up a bit of business at school and work. I should be back full time right when the season starts.

Anyway...

Here's the schedule
January 13-14 - Final Preseason Race (I'll start out the roll-call, and since not everyone has picked cars, it'll be first come first serve basis like we've done on the first 2 races).
January 14-19 - Qualifying Opens for Round 1 of the Regular Season
January 20-21 - Round 1 Officially Starts​


Car Selection
The top three picks are not final. If you're lower down the rankings, and if someone up the rankings has picked your Car 1, you end up with Car 2. If both Car 1 and Car 2 is taken before you, then you end up with Car 3. If all cars are picked, you will be asked to picked again.

Anyone high up the list that has yet to pick a car will have until this Wednesday to pick a car, or else, they'll lose their spots. If they don't show, they will forfeit their car selection ranking and it will be first come first serve for those remaining no shows.

Well, I can just buy all upgrades to the car and then power limit it within the requred PP. This way I obtain the extra torque. Not to mention the aero, which I can run full as well, just power limit it more. :D

Won't this unbalance things a bit? Unless I'm wrong about all I said above. I like the fact we are using less power, but I'm iffy about this open mod thing. I'll do some testing tomorrow and see.

The PP system punishes heavy power limiter use, hard.

The current specs/PP regs were picked for their flexibility, and equality in range.

Every car can increase it's power without an upgrade, and every car can either add a turbo or engine stage, lower aero, and make PP that way if they want a faster straight line car. The Castrol, Z, and GTR would all have a tough time adding any parts, but they can all go high enough on power stock that they're neither at a disadvantage, nor an advantage.

it's a very delicate balance, the whole system. Change the PP limits 1-2 up or down on all cars and you could have very different results.
Considered these hand made-hand selected from the finest ingredients recipes, for the best of the most equal options that can be found.

The design is based on all cars "stock", meaning every car has a prime range there. It's only on the fast tracks where anyone should even consider adding a power adder at all, minus a few select cars.

Ah ok this explains it well. :) So, I just need to find that perfect balance. I'll get testing tomorrow and see what happens.

Welcome to WSGTC newbies! I'll keep this brief and in simple English. Race clean, disciplined, and respectful around your fellow competitors! Fast but incompetent drivers need not apply - rather have slow and clean! Read the Racing Code 685 times (Click Here!).

You must follow the Car Specs and Regulations pictured below (TBA)! Not following specs will result in an immediate Disqualification.

While inside the race lobby, do not use the 'CHAT' feature while Stewards are sending out instructions for pre-race checks. If you have questions, go ask them NOW! Otherwise, read the OP. We will be using a special pre-race qualifying that is listed below - Read it! Thank you for your patience!

Pre-Race Qualifying
  • Since we're not doing the weekly qualifying, we'll do a pre-race one instead.
  • After pre-race PP Checks are done, the track will be reset.
  • The field will be given 15 minutes to do their Qualifying in Free-Run
  • If you are satisfied with a lap, DRIVE back to the pits. DO NOT press PAUSE and then EXIT!
  • Again, drive back to the pits! Do not press pause and exit!
  • Stay in the Pits and wait for the start of the race.
  • Once everyone has been confirmed to be inside the pits, the host will start the race.
  • Once the countdown hits ZERO, DO NOT MOVE!
  • The field will roll slowly and maintain 50mph/80kph
  • Maintain your grid spots while holding a double-file grid (8 rows, 2 columns)
  • Follow the Rolling Start Procedure Inside the OP!
  • Goodluck and Have Fun!

As you can see guys, there are a lot of available spots in each room. But actually, because of a GT5 bug, we can do a nice race with only 12 drivers per room. It means 6 GT500 and 6 GT300. We stop the sign up when there are 6 GT500 and 6 GT300 per room.

No worry there will be 2 room per conference = 48 spots. :)

Roll-call for the race already? :scared: I better get to sleep, wake up early and get testing before all spots are taken :D. Just dont take the GTRs or Lexus guys! Or you will regret it :lol:
