The Glitch

I know this was already in the news thread on GTP but, as it had never happened to me before I thought it must be something to do with people's internet connections.

This happened to me last night when in a room with 12 friends. Only 11 of us were racing. I couldn’t understand why I was so slow when I had been fastest in the free run. We were at Nurburgring GP/F and my race laptimes were a full 5 or 6 seconds slower than I had managed in Free Run, with the same car, tyres and setup. I saved the replay and watched it back this morning and timed my laps with a stop watch. As I suspected my laptimes were 5 seconds quicker on the stopwatch than the game timer suggested.
Another strange thing happened too, the leader was around 3 seconds ahead of the guy in 2nd, they both pitted on the same lap for tyres. The leader went into the pit first, then the screen kind of jumps and the guy in 2nd appeared ahead of him.(he did not go into the pit too quickly and get the penalty thing, in case you were wondering) After the tyre change the guy who was previously in 2nd left the pit in 1st and had a full 5 second lead on the previous leader going into the first corner.

This is the kind of thing that will put people off racing online or even playing the game at all. It will definitely have an impact on any racing leagues too.

I suggest postponing the WSGTC race league until this problem is corrected. I for one will not be taking part in this race league until this issue is resolved, even though I have qualified for it.

there have been quite a few gt500 drivers practicing throughout the week, so where are they, hmm a little bit disappointed to be honest. Where's biffy is he racing?

We already have delayed it. One of the reasons for running a pre-race tonight is to test for these issues

They aren't usually online. Just click on the coffee cup 👍
Are you racing NTSC or PAL this season?

have anymore gt500 done their laps?

also the PAL gt300 is split by just 2 seconds from 1st to last. Which is quite close. Should be an interesting race

Sorry guys (Nepalii and mainman) but i won't be racing tonight if we're less than 7-8 drivers.

Thanks for telling that in advance. Really appreciate it. 👍 On the other hand, where the hell is everyone?!! Not even half of people who qualified to the series is in the qualifying sheet. Come on race guys, don't be afraid! Yes, I know the aliens are intimidating, but you got to face your fears :D.

Yeah I'm racing, just got back from exams (:scared:), not had much practice myself, but couldn't really do much about it as I've been studying hard all week.

Pag ill make that bigger ive not practised all week and am just joining Pal 1 to qualify after stuffing down my dinner.

If you fly into the pits at break neck speed, your car enters, then enters again. Call it a penality or glitch, it adds time to your pit stop, you must be at 55mph/88.5kph or under when entering. If you are slightly over that, you will get a 5-10 second penality after your tires are changed and any fuel you have taken on, and the car sits in the pit till then.

The performance glitch is very real with 13-16 racers in a room. Sadly, it has not been fixed to date. I run a 50mbps internet connection, and I still feel the problems (on some tracks but Nurb Nord and 24hr seem fine). Just jump in a room with more than 12 to see if it happens. It started with update 2.02 and the qualifying lap times are out of sync too. They mean nothing as well, as when the race starts, you are rarely where you should be on the starting grid.

less than an hour to qualify guys get them laps in... Looks like a better turn up now stop, would prefer more but hey lol

It does sound like you got reset, which is when you're going too fast, the game physically resets you at the beginning of AI takeover in pit lane, and at a much slower speed. Usually costs 5-9 seconds.

This "bug" has been around for at least 9-10 months. it's just been made more obvious recently. (Dated back to at least April 2011)
Because it's been around so long, I have my doubts it will ever be fully "fixed", now that we know how to find it, and that it exists. Because we know, we'll look for it, and since it's probably always been there, we'll continue to find it.
I see no reason to delay the start of a season, we'll have to limit the drivers to 12 for now, but currently we're not filling more seats then that anyway, so it seems a non-issue to me.
With 12 drivers, mics off, visual damage off, I haven't seen any races really affected by the bug so far, so I think we're fine with 12, in case you're wondering.
