Israel - Palestine discussion thread

Yeah, Twitter is now awash with reports and videos of what looks like Iran being hit by Israel.

Well that was more limited than I expected. Hopefully the Mullahs will be like this...again

The Sun is capable of spin, but are you accusing them of spinning direct quotes from an interview?

Be better.
As if that's not how spin works? It's not lying, it's just being misleading with the truth.

You know this. You do it all the time.
These are real people who have been through the most traumatic experiences known to man and because one had the misfortune of being interviewed by The Sun we largely dismiss what she says....
No.

We dismiss what The Sun says she said because The Sun regularly mischaracterises and misrepresents things in situations like these. We go looking for other sources that are more reliable in their reporting with regards to being complete and objective. Because without other sources it's unclear what in The Sun story is true, what is true but with skewed context, what is deliberately misleading and what is lies. They have poisoned their own well, and it cannot be trusted alone any more than a random poster on Twitter or Reddit can. It is at best an indication that there is a story that might be worth looking into elsewhere.

You seem to think that repudiating a source is the same as repudiating the story. It is not. The war in Gaza continues to go on, but there are sources that I would not trust to report on it accurately. Calling out those sources is not denying that the war is happening. It's being sensible about where you get your information from.

Genocide enjoyer Naziyahu strikes again.

Israel said they would attempt to work with partners to get relief into Palestine, but given that they've tried to stonewall it every step of the way, I'm not confident in that at all. I hope Biden grows a pair and cuts military aid to Israel like he threatened to do.

So not just the IDF “targeting” UNFIL then…

Yes, Hezbollah are terrorists and are an enemy. Yes, Hezbollah is involved in Lebanon, among other Middle Eastern nations. However, no one expects a terrorist group to follow international law or target only military targets. What we do expect is a civilized nation backed by Western powers to follow international law and only attack legitimate military targets. Israel isn't doing that. Their Nazi-esque leader is doing the same thing to the Palestinians that the Germans did to the ancestors of his people. Although, Netanyahu has repeatedly denied parts of the Holocaust...which is weird.

This is going to be a lovely echo chamber in about a years time 😂

Sorry it already is
Tell me don't know what that means with telling me you don't know what it means.

An echo chamber wouldn't present alternative views while allowing yours to remain, it would simply remove them. As such it seems to be projection of what you want, not what it actually is.

I also note you avoided answering the question I raised, so lets add another one. Who here, do you believe, supports or condones Hezbollah?

What are you on about? Why in a year's time? Is something magical going to happen between October '24 and October '25? B

This isn't an echo chamber, either. People often come into this section of the forum and spout something without doing an iota of research into the subject, then claim it's an echo chamber when others point out their idiotic stances. No one here believes Hamas or Hezbollah are the good guys. No one here supports terrorists. No one here hates Jews or is antisemitic (at least no one who posts). I would wager all of us believe that Israel has the right to defend itself from terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. What Israel doesn't have the right to do is ethnically cleanse the Islamic population of Palestine. Israel doesn't have the right to violate international law or target civilians while attempting to defend itself. Israel also doesn't have the right to cut off aid to Palestinians, who are just as affected by the war as Israelis are. Israel also has zero casus belli to take Palestinian land.

Can you post the source of this information so we can track it more easily?

This sounds exactly like Israeli thinking to me, callous disregard for innocent bystanders. But it's difficult to assess this from a text grab.

If this is all true it is deeply disturbing and dystopian. The point of a war is to achieve some strategic objective...the point of Israel's war on Gaza seems to be simply annihilation. They are effectively erasing Gaza.

“In the short term, we are safer, because we hurt Hamas. But I think we’re less secure in the long run. I see how all the bereaved families in Gaza — which is nearly everyone — will raise the motivation for [people to join] Hamas 10 years down the line. And it will be much easier for [Hamas] to recruit them.”

At least somebody in Israel can manage some rational thought...It blows my mind that this is not an immediately obvious repercussion. The hatred for Israel has probably never been higher than it is right now.

At first glance it's almost like the IDF and/or government were wilfully ignorant in that their stated "war goal" is to eliminate an organisation rather than an ideology, any cursory notes of their allies bombardments/drone strikes during the war on terror would be enough to see how detrimental that is on a long-term basis.

That said it's become systematically clear that Isreal is not willing to entertain the possibility of a repeat of Oct 7th, not to mention Ben-Gvir and his cronies advocating for a partial, if not total resettlement of the Strip in addition to their ongoing occupations in the West Bank. In that regard it doesn't matter that there's a hotbed of potential recruits just waiting to be plucked over the next few years... because the way things have been proceeding over the past few months in addition to actions such as forcibly shutting down UNRWA, the remaining population will eventually be forced out of Gaza, war crime allegations be damned.
