Hi guys, welcome to week 7 of the driving skill competition. This is the new weekly competition where driving skill is everything. Each week a stock car and track is chosen the car CANNOT be tuned or modified in anyway as to give an advantage over others.

This week is the Nissan Calsonic Impul GT-R at Fuji and tyre choice is RACING HARD. All aids are to be turned off except ABS on 1. Transmission and grip choice (low/real) is down to you.

The car must be accessed via ARCADE MODE!

Brake balance can only be adjusted if you are driving with ABS off, if you are using ABS on 1 you must keep the default brake balance.

This is an offline competition and you can do anytime, just choose the car through arcade mode then select the track. Everybody Is free to enter.

Please send in your best lap time stating whether you used ds3 or wheel (lap must not have gone red).

Its time to show your skill and race! Good luck everyone thanks for the support! Any questions just PM me and i'll get back to you ASAP! Enjoy!

When sending your times in please could you use the following format:

Driver: GTP name/PSN name
Time:
Transmission: Auto/Manual (if manual state whether clutch used)
Controller: DS3/wheel
ABS:
Brake Balance: Front/Rear (only applicable if ABS is off)

Also please state your updated time in a new post, do not simply edit a previous one.

The Week 7 leaderboard will be up later in the week!

I will also consider allowing previous competitors the ability to add their own times to the leaderboard to save time.

After the huge success of the previous weeks it would be great to get as many people racing this week. So get out on that track and have fun!

Also if this isn't enough of a challenge to satisfy your gt5 needs head over to the sister competition of the weekly driving skill competition (WDSC) which is called fortnightly driving skill competition and can be found under the 'gran turismo 5' section of the forums. The FDSC runs alongside the WDSC.

This week is meant to imitate an asia only competition running at the moment so we are allowing people to have a go at the competition in a less competitive atmosphere. Thanks. Good luck 👍

Had a 15 lap run:

Time: 1.38:573
Transmission: Manual (no clutch)
Controller: Wheel (G27)
ABS: 1

Still time to gain as I messed up a few corners in the third sector :dopey:

Does anyone have any tips for the third sector, I'm losing a lot of time there. I can't do the few last corners, my line gets completely messed up.

Stay wide, clip apexes, power as early as you can get away with whilst exiting wide.

Thats the best I can describe it!

Just tested this quickly with the DS3. Cool combo. I love the sound of this car:)

I find this one of the toughest tracks. One thing that helped me visualize those final corners was to aim for the rumble strips - drive straight at them at a 90º angle, brake and turn into the corner. I dunno if this is the best way, but a definite improvement over my previous "wild guess" cornering approach.

Now if I could just figure out a good marker for that 1st brake point... :scared:

Happy to get under 1:40, but I don't think I'll do any better today. Drinking while playing will do that.

Me too, I just sort of guessed my way through those few final corners.

Arrgh, so frustrating. Can run consistent 1:41s but just can't see how to improve it. Hope to see some videos! 👍

Improved slightly:

Driver: Whistle Snap
Time: 1.38:291
Transmission: Manual (no clutch)
Controller: Wheel (G27)
ABS: 1

Was much cleaner through the 3rd sector but my entry on the first corner let me down bad, I will definitely get in the 37s.

Wow great laps everybody, lap times seem really low 👍 hopefully I can fight my way up the leaderboard if I have enough time to compete. Good luck everyone :)

That's what I'm aiming for, not sure if it'll happen though :) Early best from 10 laps.

This might help, you can't go far wrong with these lines: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqzfczJVy7Y

edit: more useful video than the F1 lap, it's in the GT300 class so is a few seconds slower but the braking points are there

Nice times guys! Again I've got some time left in it, but this will do for now. Look at how close we are mizx!

Great times guys. 👍 Seems this weeks challenge is going to be a close one.

Great lap time, everybody seems to be mid 39's at the moment! I'm struggling with the braking points in the last sector.

NOTE: The FDSC and WDSC events are now under 'gran turismo 5' > 'gt5 online competitions' > 'spot races and time trials'. This is because the moderators feel this is the suitable place for them to be, and I must say I agree, however we may get less new competitors joining. I hope this has made everything clear. Thank you for your cooperation. 👍

Well, we had a few weeks of "advertising" on the GT5 mainpage, hope it helped :)
The last sector is quite tricky

Also this is the only video posted I can see on YouTube so far for that event:

I noticed the thread move like about 4 times back and forth between the GT5 main section and the Spot races and time trials and also saw this locked. Any reason for so many moves?

Still plenty of time to gain. Mostly struggling with getting optimum traction out of the sharp corners. There's still a few corners where I'm not hooking up very well and losing a lot of time as a result.

EDIT: Thanks for posting that video, it's good to have a comparison of your own run. I'm actually slightly quicker in the first half than that video, but looks like I lose most of it on the hairpin chicanes (the difference between the F and GP version) and the penultimate corner.

The moderators moved it to spot races and time trials, I then moved it back, not realising it was an offence. But I now agree with the moderators about the placement of the thread.
