MUCH better performance by the Texans tonight. The Houston Texans slammed the Atlanta Falcons 32-7. Yeah... we cleaned up the Dirty Birds in this Preseason match. JaDeveon Clowney was pretty beast in picking up a sack and even making a sweet tackle for loss. Former Texans QB T.J. Yates was playing in this game for ATL against the team he helped take to the playoffs and to a playoff win. We picked him off a couple of times. I will GLADLY take this Texans win after the lethargic performance at Arizona. The Texans must have been pissed off, and rightfully so after getting whacked 32-0 at the Cardinals last Saturday.

Up next... "OMAHA!" Texans will have them some Peyton Manning problems when they head up to Denver next Saturday night. Yep- the Houston Texans at the Super Bowl XLVIII Runners-Up and defending AFC Champion Denver Broncos.

Well, I just turned on the Lions game and it already has become a penalty-fest from both Detroit and Jacksonville. This won't be good news if it carries into the season.

The Texans got some balls. They have a level of toughness that I can't really recall during the Gary Kubiak days. They went for two after scoring a Touchdown with 59 seconds left in the game. Had that not connect, we would have lost. Bulls on Parade as the Texans won 18-17.

Congratulations to all other winners of the third set of Preseason games.

This week is crucial for a lot of players because this is where teams will start making roster cuts to try to eventually trim them down to 53 players. For my Texans, they'd be dumb to cut Alfred Blue. This running back has been very productive. He'd be a solid second to Arian Foster in our running game. I also am starting to like Tom Savage over Case Keenum. I like both Savage and Keenum, but Savage just seems more talented and more efficient than the wild and loose play of Case Keenum. But again... it's up to management to determine the rosters for when the games that count begin.

I want to try to get this thread buzzing even though it's just the Preseason. Since you're here, @Omnis, how do you feel about your Dolphins this season? Do you see them contending in the AFC East this season or maybe going for a Wild Card? Or are there just not enough pieces for the Dolphins to be any kind of contender this season?

I'll say this about my Lions- if the team keeps the high penalty count and makes a lot of turnovers like they have in the Preseason, they won't be going anywhere in the NFC North. I hope that it isn't the case, but from what I've watched, it seems to be New staff, same old Lions.

Well, we need a kicker: http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/tlg/4636351280.html

I'm really happy with Bill Lazor. I think he's a genius-- especially compared to the last few guys we've had.

That said, we are still a good 2 to 3 years away from being solid. I think we can make a playoff run, but I would not expect to get beyond the first round. Playoffs would be a huge achievement, but I expect them to fall between a winning season and even.

O-line still has to gel, and our linebackers are absolutely terrible. We have some young guys, but they still need to develop. We can't cut our overpriced free agent linebackers (wheeler and ellerbe) until next season or else they'd cost more off the roster than on.

I think the sooner we get rid of Jeff Ireland's ****-show, the better the team will be.

We could have had an awesome team by now though. The whole fanbase down here was clamoring for Jimmy Graham (the U), Lavonte David, Luke Keuchly, etc. We have been plagued since the Ricky Williams trade with absolutely terrible 2nd-4th round picks.

We'll do it one more time. The final batch of Preseason games will be played out tonight. All 32 NFL teams will play tonight. My Texans will host the 49ers. And of course... none of these games matter any towards the upcoming season or the Postseason. It's all about trying to make the final roster and filling out the depth charts. After this weekend, we'll learn whom all stay with the teams and who all went elsewhere.

Enjoy the final Preseason games, but of course be ready for a new season of NFL action starting September 4.

The Lions get to face off against the Bills for the final game of Preseason. It looks like a good game on paper, but as everyone knows, the only stats that matter are the ones that are put on the field during the game being played.

Well I just got off the phone and it looks like I'm getting tickets to a suite for the last preseason game tonight. The lamest game of the season lol.

Hey, at least you got tickets for a suite for a game! You're also going to one more game than I am since I'm not planning on getting tickets to a Lions game this year.

After the Ray Rice incident, the NFL is really cracking down on domestic violence. The first offence in future DV incidents will be a 6 game suspension, and the second incident will be at least a year ban from the league. This includes the possibility of lifetime bans from the NFL. Based off of the article from the NFL itself, players can appeal the ban after a year by filing a petition for reinstatement. However, the NFL doesn't guarantee that it will review (or for that matter, even accept) the petitions. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...dell-apologizes-for-decision-in-ray-rice-case

I don't see football being the top sport for too much longer. Basketball is going to eclipse it.

Soccer is still well on its way to being a major powerhouse in the US, but it still has a few years before it gets there. I don't think that it'll take down football of basketball, though (at least yet).

On another note, I just remembered that former Lions Head Coach Jim Shwartz is now the Defensive Coordinator of the Bills. I have a feeling that he'll be doing everything in his power as a defensive mind to make the Lions regret firing him as the Head Coach. He may have an advantage too since he knows some of the tendencies of the Lions offense, but that'll be determined when the two teams play.

Just wrapped up... and tonight was damned ugly. This 40-13 spanking of my Texans was almost as bad as that Sunday Night game last year or two years ago at San Francisco. No touchdowns in the first half for the Texans, but it just seemed like the 49ers had EVERYTHING going since scoring that first touchdown. Tom Savage probably did his best Matt Schaub impression by throwing a pick-six. Thank God this is not a regular season game. But still- we got shoved into a meat grinder tonight.

The Lions blanked the Bills 23-0 tonight. The The Defense was actually solid today- which is good since the D has been shaky in the last few games. Also, this was the first game that wasn't a 1-point game as all 3 previous games were 1 point games.

Just got back from the Dolphins game. Man, St. Louis is doomed. They need a QB so bad.

The game was boring as all hell, but the food in the suite was good. When everyone left at the 4th quarter 2 minute warning, we went to town on the cesar salad, home-made potato chips, and the chocolate cake.

St. Louis won't be going anywhere this year. I think that the Rams will be lucky to go 8-8 this season, but even that is a stretch since the NFC West is loaded with super talent.

Just finished watching all the highlights. If Jacksonville doesn't start Blake Bortles, someone needs to be fired. Also, St. Louis should trade for TJ Yates or Ryan Mallet. I'm surprised New England hasn't dealt him already. Garropolo looks good enough to not lose games for them in case something happens to Brady.

I have a hunch that Bortles will be starting before the year ends.
The last game to end was the Seahawks-Raiders game, and that ended with an 41-31 Oakland victory. Yes, this is still Preseason, but I wasn't expecting Seattle to lose to Oakland.

Aldon Smith (OLB, San Francisco) violated the Personal Conduct and Substance Abuse policies. What does that get him? Simple- he's suspended without pay for nine games. So San Francisco's defense takes a substantial hit. I'm preparing a post for another thread, but since I'm seeing this report so much, I may as well report it while making another post.

Seems like the guy has been the center of attention in the NFL for all the wrong reasons in the past couple years. I think that this means that he's missed about a whole season or so in the past 2-3 years due to suspensions. If SF cuts him, he might have a hard time getting another job in the NFL.

Michael Sam didn't make the Rams. Too much was made about him in being the NFL's first openly gay player, but in my view, he's a hell of a player. He even sacked Johnny Manziel for goodness sakes! He was pretty beast when he played his college football at the University of Missouri. I wish Michael Sam well wherever he eventually ends up or wherever he eventually plays football or whatever.

Many players got cut today. I think here in Houston, we dropped CB Brandon Harris among other cuts. So all we can do now is look ahead to the regular season. The fun begins this coming Thursday in Seattle when the Green Bay Packers get hosted by the defending champs- the Seattle Seahawks. This time... with NO replacement referees.

I think that Sam very well might land a job in the NFL since he actually had good numbers. If a team is willing to look past the media firestorm that he'll bring, he could wind being a reliable starter for some team.

It is such a lame suspension. Part of the suspension is for his time he spent in rehab trying to get himself some help last year. So even though, he missed games last year trying to get himself some help, he is still getting suspended for it.

Yeah right. If the 49ers were to cut him, not that they are, but hypothetically, then he would have a job as soon as a team could get ink to paper. Pass rushers of his caliber are guaranteed jobs in the NFL.

Good luck to Ryan Mallett in Houston. Texans got a good deal.

Re: Michael Sam... there was no way in hell he was going to stay on the roster in St. Louis. I knew this from the moment they drafted him. It was like they doomed him. Sam needs to go somewhere with a garbage line like Jacksonville or Dallas.

Forgot to post this:

:)

The field is so damn far away on the Away sideline though. It's a better experience watching from home.

Finally! The games that matter begin tonight. The road to this season's Super Bowl begins tonight and this weekend. We got Green Bay at Seattle to kick off the new season. And this time, no replacement referees for this game (remember that infamous Monday Night match with GB at SEA?). I think I read that SEA is favored by 6 in this game. Let the first weekend of the regular season begin!

Good luck to all of your team(s) this upcoming season.
