Hey, bummer, CFM. Not that I was any threat...
I'm coming to the party late. I ran the race two and half times last night (a little over 100 miles), with two more-or-less compliant finishes and one scrub. Until I learn to launch this thing better there's little chance of AI contact by T1 on the first lap...
I only had about 140 stock, unadjusted miles on my garage car, from more than a year ago, way back at the beginning of Amateur League. So I set about acquainting myself with it a little. I made a few baseline adjustments and after a wipeout I completed the race the first time. My fast lap was in the 1':33.mid" range and the MOL was about -30.mid". However my lap times were not very consistent across the lifespan of the front tires. Neither of the two real hot shoes showed up in this field.
I made a few more adjustments to try and even out the tire wear a little. This actually
raised my fast lap by about 1 second, but it helped the front tire life and yielded
extremely consistent 1':34.mid" laps. I'm beginning to think the 1':33" was an anomaly, like I got a bump draft I didn't notice, or something. My total time fell by more than 2 seconds. Unfortunately, this field had both hot shoes in it, so my MOL was identical to the first field.
In the first race I pitted from 3rd on lap 5; in the second race I pitted from 2nd. In both races I never saw the field again until passing the perennial back-marking bumblehead in the yellow car on lap 14 and holding for a 5th place finish.
Here's my setup, FWIW:
Springs: 17.0/15.0
Ride Ht: 60/64 (trying to hug the ground for top speed)
Bound: 5/6
Rebound: 8/7
Camber: 3.0/1.0
Toe: +0.0/-1.0 (I added this to get a little more rotation and to help front tire wear)
Swaybars: 4/3
Brakes: 12/14 (again, for front tire wear)
DF: 1.00/1.15 (I'll probably back off the rear for less drag)
LSD: 20/40/20
A/S: 24 (trans trick)
FD: 3.860 (almost redlines in clear air; almost rev limited when drafting)
ASM: 0
TCS: 2 (for launch and the last turn)
The car is still a little tight in the sweepers and loose on the sharp turns, so I'll probably knock the rear downforce back a little further. Everybody is leaving me for dead on the front straight and reduced drag may help a bit... it can't hurt!
I'll PM my times to Uncle Bob, but with distant 5th place finishes, I won't be a contender in this one. I'd be in the mix on one pitstop but the second stop is just the nails in the coffin lid for me. Phun, though!
