Wow! This field is getting tough with Mr P and IforceV8 showing up. I better get going on this tonight.

just tried slowpoke's setup and on my first lap i put up a 1'30.8 in free run and from what i saw i think that time is still slow. after one minor adjustment i got 1'30.1 so ill see what i can do during the race a little later, i have to pick up my sister right now. later.

Hiya Guys!!!👍
:D Sorry for the delay but figure you'd like to know the story behind the "Rules Adjustment." I "Only" ran this Race 5 times today!!! First I installed "slowpoke's" set-up which normally works well for me. Cut my first 1'30 on Lap #3 on cool tyres & thought "Kool, I'm gonna nail these guys!" WRONG :irked: Never had another Lap even in the 1'31s!!! then got spun thru a "Fairly Spectacular" 540 just past T-1 on Lap #13. (Should have saved the replay as I never touched a wall!) Went ahead & finished the race & was only 5 seconds shy of my best.

Decided to try it again but it was just too "Loose" for me. Re-Loaded "MY" set-up & "pokie's" trans & set out for the third time. "Close but NO Cigar" & I noticed the "Different AI Combo" ran just like the "specified combo." Tweaked the trans a tiny bit & hit the button for Race #4. Ran my first 1'30 with "Mostly" MY set-up & had 7 more in the 1'31s lowering my personal best by 7 Seconds! THEN I noticed I'd raced against a "Non-Specified" AI Combo, :dunce::dunce::dunce: so I couldn't submit it!!!

Soooooo, took a deep breath & started again w/the "Correct" combo. Ran about as good as I'm probably gonna, 100% Clean & .049 quicker than Race #4 but still short of our present leader GPTim. :grumpy:

Anyhow...run against ANY Combo that shows up & have phun!!! 👍 (And now you know what we do on 100+ degree days in these parts!!!):lol::lol:...UB57 :D

Thanks for the info UB57, I'll try my best to get in a time to you.

Angelx - not sure that free run is that useful as you dont get tire wear (unless ive forgotten something). During the race this car eats the fronts faster than the rears (well it does it my hands). Which will affect the cars handling. Setting up in a qualifying session will give some idea of how the tires will wear and hopefully allow settings to be adjusted accordingly. :)

@ icemanshooter23 : "Welcome Aboard" 👍

@ angelx: GPTIM is correct, this thing eats tyres unevenly. During initial testing I ran one step softer rear tyres to help even the wear but then it was Way too quick for the competition. It would really be handy "IF" we could test in "Free Run" WITH Tyre wear!!! Just another "Wish" item for GT4 I suppose. :guilty:...UB57 :D

well... i know the issue about the tires, however it gives me a feel of how fast i can run the laps with good tires and therefore if i get even close to those times i know am on the right track. Don't know why, but this method just works for me, (i placed 3rd in the 10 lapper and this is the way i went about it. My fastest in race lap time is 1'30.xxx

Absolutely!!! 👍
:D Free Run is a fantastic tool to tune for these (or any) races. I just think it would be even better if we could "Toggle" tyre wear ON or OFF as well!

@angelx - thats cool, whatever works for you! Sorry if i came off the wrong way with my last post, was just trying to be helpful :)

Well my PS2 has finally died. Over the past year I have had it apart many times cleaning and adjusting the lens, greasing the lens rails, etc. Last night I went to run some laps and instead spent the whole time taking apart the PS2. Now it's so bad that I can't load any discs at all. So until I get a new PS2, no more OLR for me:indiff: I've tried every repair trick that I could find on the internet, and usually it would work for a while, but now it's toast. I'm not even going to bother buying a new one until closer to GT4's release because there's really no point IMO. So have fun everyone, sorry I can't join in.:guilty:

:guilty: Sorry to hear your machine died CarbonFiber Man! :guilty: I just hope GT4 isn't delayed even more & you get "Rusty" while waiting! :guilty: Wait just a Minute!!! Yeh, I hope you DO get "Rusty" so maybe I can beat you once in a while!!! :irked: We'll miss you for sure, don't stay away too long! 👍 ...UB57 :D

Hey, bummer, CFM. Not that I was any threat...
;)
I'm coming to the party late. I ran the race two and half times last night (a little over 100 miles), with two more-or-less compliant finishes and one scrub. Until I learn to launch this thing better there's little chance of AI contact by T1 on the first lap...
:(
I only had about 140 stock, unadjusted miles on my garage car, from more than a year ago, way back at the beginning of Amateur League. So I set about acquainting myself with it a little. I made a few baseline adjustments and after a wipeout I completed the race the first time. My fast lap was in the 1':33.mid" range and the MOL was about -30.mid". However my lap times were not very consistent across the lifespan of the front tires. Neither of the two real hot shoes showed up in this field.

I made a few more adjustments to try and even out the tire wear a little. This actually raised my fast lap by about 1 second, but it helped the front tire life and yielded extremely consistent 1':34.mid" laps. I'm beginning to think the 1':33" was an anomaly, like I got a bump draft I didn't notice, or something. My total time fell by more than 2 seconds. Unfortunately, this field had both hot shoes in it, so my MOL was identical to the first field.

In the first race I pitted from 3rd on lap 5; in the second race I pitted from 2nd. In both races I never saw the field again until passing the perennial back-marking bumblehead in the yellow car on lap 14 and holding for a 5th place finish.

Here's my setup, FWIW:

Springs: 17.0/15.0
Ride Ht: 60/64 (trying to hug the ground for top speed)
Bound: 5/6
Rebound: 8/7
Camber: 3.0/1.0
Toe: +0.0/-1.0 (I added this to get a little more rotation and to help front tire wear)
Swaybars: 4/3
Brakes: 12/14 (again, for front tire wear)

DF: 1.00/1.15 (I'll probably back off the rear for less drag)

LSD: 20/40/20
A/S: 24 (trans trick)
FD: 3.860 (almost redlines in clear air; almost rev limited when drafting)

ASM: 0
TCS: 2 (for launch and the last turn)

The car is still a little tight in the sweepers and loose on the sharp turns, so I'll probably knock the rear downforce back a little further. Everybody is leaving me for dead on the front straight and reduced drag may help a bit... it can't hurt!

I'll PM my times to Uncle Bob, but with distant 5th place finishes, I won't be a contender in this one. I'd be in the mix on one pitstop but the second stop is just the nails in the coffin lid for me. Phun, though!
:D

Well, I dinked my settings some more, and tried to adjust my line a tad and work on throttle control. I cut a lot of time off my total and moved up a notch to 4th in the race... barely. It was tooth and nail to hold off one of the Flying Wardrobes without getting pushed!

With only 1 pit I could have won easily... which is UB's point, the old Master of Suspense that he is!

:D Leaderboard Updated w/improved times but No "Movement"

I'm hanging onto a Podium Spot by the skin of my teeth VS the DS2 Guys (Trying in Vain to defend the Honor of Wheel Users! :irked: )...I could "Wheely, Wheely" use some help from the MOMO & DFPro Drivers who signed up!!!:lol::lol: ...UB57 :D

Bwahahahah. Welcome to my kind of schedule! Actually the little woman has been playing a Gamecube game called "Animal Crossing" a lot, so I've had some quality time to put in on this one. I'll update my times in a minute, Bob, but I don't see it dipping much further, unless I get some braking point epiphany or something. I've reached the limit of what my reactions will reliably handle!

This has been a good one - one I don't mind losing.

My first run thru got my a MOL of nearly a full minute!!
But my best lap was in the 1'34's.
I had the Yellow and RED blocking me like crazy the first 4 laps and couldn't get past the both of them until that point.

I came down to the "Harry Potter Room" (my computer room is literally under the front stairs) to cop some settings to see if I can get my lap time down. But "Godzilla's" tie is too tight and all he wants to do is waggle his ass thru the first turn.
I'll be going back to run this in my RED car. If I do better then I'll transfer the settings to my FRESH black car and run it again.

Props to UB57 for teaching this old dog even more humility.

Update: I've spannered Bob's settings onto "Godzilla" and dropped 26 seconds off my overall time.👍
This time I actually spent a little time in 2nd place. Then I had to pit and I never saw the pack again.
But the two "wide-bodied bricks" weren't able to bully me so much.👍
I think with a bit more technique, and some of the cues from Duke, I may drop another 10 seconds off my time.
I was able to run a couple of laps in the 1'33.mids. But as the tires warm and I get the hang of it, it's time to pit.:irked:
I think, that I might be able to give them a better run on a less "strenous" pit schedule.

I think I'm gonna go try these settings on my "Fresh" car.
Then I'm gonna go to the music store to get some horns (Clarinet and sax) freshened up for the school year.

Sounds like you're in the hunt, Gil! Excellent work!

I thought I would drop in and let you guys know I'm in on this one.

However, I gotta say, I love the names.

I haven't been reading up on the thread's past, but just reading Gil's post had me laughing about the nicknames for the list of racers. 👍

As for my take on the race so far...

 :scared:

Haven't made it past 3 laps thanks to time problems, but I did notice some major competition.

It was hard to avoid contact properly, but I believe a first lap lead is possible.
Just gonna have to race a bit more to find out.

Also, the straight is really hard to get down without a bump from behind. I may play it safe and just get out of the way all together. Puts me off the first line, but lets me avoid contact like this is a real race.

In fact, just avoiding any contact before that certain spot is hard enough... lord knows it's gonna be hard to avoid contact throughout the race. :scared:

I think I can handle it though.
And on that note, off to the races I go!

Will be back with updates... even if it means a double post. :mischievous:

Later.

Well, taking the "no contact by T1" literally is not too hard for me because I'm still struggling to catch up from the launch. I'm just arriving at the back of the pack shortly after the T1 time appears. With a good run and making sure not to initiate any contact after that, I can take the lead on the back straight of the first lap. I usually lose it by the time I get to the S/F line, thanks to the horsepower deficit, but if you can clear the last turn with a lead of more than 1.5", you can get to the far end of the front straight still in the lead.

Heh, if GoKents is in on this, I've just lost any chance of a podium spot. Guess I'm back to trying for "best of the rest" as usual...

That's nice of you, but I don't think you need to worry about me.

Trust me, for right now I am way off of where you are probably expecting.

Back later with more depth to my post.
Till then,

Finally some clean races today. I think I must be close to 100 restarts by now. The first only took of 4 secs. :banghead: The next 10 secs. I've submitted again in the vain hope to put just a little pressure on banjobear. ;)

I really fear that the the sparse hair I got left will be gray after this Godzilla nightmare. :scared:

You've still got Hair!?!?
:D "Finally" some "Movement" on the Leaderboard after two days!!! GREAT Job NielsG!!! You & "Duke" have posted "Sizable" improvements 👍 Leaderboard Updated...UB57 :D

...and I thought for a minute I was gonna be in the money. Still 4th.
:(
Good job, Niels! What color car do I see coming up in my mirror? Mine is black and my fresh one is red, unlike Gil, who's runner is red and backup car black. They look good in among the Flying Boxcars and other speed demons.

Thought you all would like an update on my progress.

On my best race...
1st Place
MOV: 18.243 (denso)
Best Lap: 1'30.726

I'm only using 5 gears and my suspension is set so that I get to yellow tires on the front, then it's time for a pit.

The suspension is also set so the front gets worn quicker than the back, so when I pit at the end of 5 and 10 there are green/yellow tires in front and green in the back. 👍

Hope that let's most of you know where I stand. :D

Later.

My old one is red, but it had to many miles on it. Got a brand new from MK's program and choose my favorite. So watch out for a blue one with a smashed headlight.

Thanks Duke,
I'm still about 3 sec. a lap off the pace. But I only need to cut 1 sec a lap to still be able to see the rest of the field at the finish.

Gil,

Why don't you post your setup.

I know it may sound rediculus, but I might be able to help out.

You did mention that your tires just got warm as you finished the 5 laps before pitting... maybe you would be well off with some changes to get you closer to my tire wear pattern.
Gil Post #49
But as the tires warm and I get the hang of it, it's time to pit.
GoKents Post #57
The suspension is also set so the front gets worn quicker than the back, so when I pit at the end of 5 and 10 there are green/yellow tires in front and green in the back.

With that in mind, I think there is room for more tire wear before pitting in. If I work on it a bit, I may be able to ensure yellow front & rear when pitting.

Do you guys know much about Camber and Tire Wear?
I don't. :D
But I can experiment until I get it right. ;)

This race has also been interesting for another reason.
For the first time is way too long I have been able to use a leader to break wind resistance. 👍

It was great just because it was such a shock. I had almost forgotten about this element of racing, but then I topped out hard on the long straight and realized I was following close enough to get into the slip-stream (or whatever it's called? ).

Any way, fun stuff UB 👍
Please tell me you already have another race lined up, I just hope it's not too long!
