Thanks to all who posted help on the slipstream battles, I read them all and passed all of the slipstream missions with a total of 8 tries. I never would have got through them all without the advice on here.

Now FWIW, here my ideas for a couple of the tricky ones...

The one (22 I think it is) with the MPVs, follow all the other advice posted here, but don't overtake the second place car too early, bump into it if you have to, you don't want to come out of it's draft until you're well into the last third of the last corner, then you'll be able to catch up to the first place car and get in his slipstream.

The Skyline one, there's a bit of conflicting info on this, I found that as long as you catch one draft at the end of each straight and enter the corners at 170Mph+ you can catch the first car pretty easily

Hope this helps somebody

Do you mean Mission 12, Ford GT LM at Laguna Seca? 11 is at New York.

Yeah, sorry. I hate NY and Hong Kong. 90deg turns and longs straights are not my fav. Fuji, Seca, Deep Forest, Grand Valley, etc...

The GT is a ***** to turn and stops ****ty. I am used to the 400R and My tuned HPA. Need work on the GT.

In 11 you just have to watch your speedometer. You want to maximise your minimum speed. The lower your speed drops in a corner, the slower you will be in that sector of the lap, because you lose momentum. In the last hairpin you should aim to not let your speed dip below 32 mph. Late braking, or even apexing the corner, is largely irrelevant. It's all about maintaining speed, and you should take wide lines to do so.

It's all about momentum. In low-powered cars, you will lose *a lot* of time if you let your speed dip a little, because the car does not have the power to regain the speed. I think of it like this. Take an extreme example. If your car became stuck in 5th/6th gear, what would you do? How would you change your style to minimise the time lost?

The answer is, you woud turn in later, and take wider lines. You would lose time because you are going the long way round the corner, but the overall you are *faster* because you scrub off less speed.

So in mission 11, watch that speedometer! The higher the numbers are, the faster your laptimes are going to be!

Thanks daan, Mission 12 is giving me some jip... I will study this vid closely... cheers!
It's not brilliant. I mess up the corkscrew on lap 1, but even with that, I'm easily ahead of the Oreca Viper by the corkscrew on the last lap.

I can't believe what an out and out life sapping waste of time mission 23 is. This isn't racing and it probably defies the laws of physics in some subtle and very disturbing manner.

Bullshine, I say.

Never did like the frigging big oval anyhow.

Still, I'm obviously some sort of GT wimp, since I've only got 15 golds.

Mission 11 took me awhile and really scared me as far as how hard the rest of the missions would be.

I thought Mission 12 was one of the easiest ones just because Laguna Seca is so easy to perfect your braking points with those little numbers by the track. You certainly don't need a perfect lap. I just counted the number of little signs that would pass before I hit the brakes each time (which is actually easier than remembering the number on the sign you brake at since you don't have to look right at it). I think most turns are between 2 1/2 and 3 2/3 signs till you brake. On the corkscrew you have to go full-brake the very instant the recommended gear lights up then power out of it from the middle of the corkscrew.

23 is frustrating because you have to figure out what gets the AI to draft you. Trying to help them draft by slowing down isn't the answer. All you have to do is be in the right section of the track and they will do the work by themselves. Go to the inside view and put the oil light on the outside yellow line.

Hats off to Famine for doing mission 23 without going into 6th gear, certainly an interesting way of doing it, since you sacrifice about 2 mph straight line speed. Each to his own, I suppose.

I counted Famine got one more draft than me, and won by 0.916 seconds. I won by 2.215 and I think that's partly because when you are in 6th gear, you get less drafts (it takes longer for the AI to catch you because you are going faster), but the drafts you do get are bigger. Most of Famine's drafts were 170 mph-ish, and his largest was 174 I think. My biggest draft was my final one before I drafted the lead car - an absolutely huge draft when the whole field passed me, and I reached 179 mph as I took them back. It catapulted me round the track and I passed the lead car on the straight before the last corner.

I had a little fun and made a simple photodrive analysis for M29 (C5R @ Infineon). I'll be working on M11 @ Knew Yawk shortly. 💡

1.) By the time you reach this sector you gap should be around +30.5xx or less:

2.) 1:30.xxx as you overtake the C5

3.) 1:40.xxx - 1:41.xxx overtook Grandsport

4.) Approx. 12.5secs behind the leader as you pass the Stingray

5.) Passed #2 before the hairpin, slow in/fast out is vital as to whether you're gonna catch the lead Vette or not.

6.) The gap between you and the leading car on the final straight

7.) Whew! Caught it right before the checker flag and edged it out by .3xx secs! :scared:

So Far i have compleated 48% and i want 50% so i just keep trying the missions. i have done 1-10 and 21,23 and the last mission and i need help on the Test Course missions (i have done 2 of them)

Christ, on what must have been my millionth attempt at M34, I came in second place... by 0.034 seconds...

I just beat this tonight by .001 seconds. Thought I was gonna lose it but thankfuly not. Now I can put the missions to bed.

Is the 8 second difference on M34 (between PAL and NTSC) to compensate for the timing problems that were in earlier versions of GT with licences? i.e. clock runs the same speed but NTSC game runs faster. Maybe its only in this test because its the only one long enough for the clock difference to be noticable. I have no idea, just food for thought. I can beat the mission by more than 8 seconds so I don't feel too bad, but I suppose that I meet the cars at different places on the track which could be either an advantage or disadvantage. any thoughts???

I just went back and beat Mission 34 with an extra voluntary 8 second wait (I play PAL). Lap time was 9:14.936, won by 4.075 seconds, after passing the lead car at the penultimate corner.

Got a clean run, passed the first car exiting the karussell corner, passed the 2nd corner exiting the slow 2nd gear left hander (you know the one I mean), passed the 3rd car just after the exit of the later karussell-type-corner, passed the 2nd car near the end of the long straight, aggressively (but without contact) forced my way past the lead car in the 2nd to last corner. Never had more than 2 wheels off the track, hardly put a wheel on the grass which was nice. Lost a lot of time passing the 1st car though, that's pretty hard to avoid.

Passed all the cars without touching except the 2nd car, I bumped wheels with him lightly as he turned in on me.

Sector times (1 or 2 missing):

1:50.0 behind
1:40.9
1:33.1
1:19.6
1:06.6
54.6
39.8
30.2
23.8
11.5
3.1
-4.075

I have no idea how to beat mission 13, 14, 15, 18, 34!
Any videos available for mission 13,14,15,18?

Thanks

1.) By the time you reach this sector you gap should be around +30.5xx or less:

30.5 is impossible. The best I can do is 31.4 - with luck. Do you take shortcuts over the green?

I've sent daan a video of this one. He'll probably record it as soon as he's run out of better things to do :D

A video of the Corvette Mission? That would be great. The leading car beats me with 0.3 sec., so a 31.0 would be enough for me.

If you have a video, you can send it to me. I can upload it (my webspace account has unlimited traffic). -> ICQ 177793103

Ah'm fair puggled fae makin' aw these vidjoes, ye ken.

I've worked my solid ass off for several hours last night. And i've completed all the missions but the Skyline Slip Stream one ( Downloading Famine's video off Daan's site to see exactly how he explained this mission ) and then Mission #34. The Mercedes around the nurburgring.

I went back and checked, it was 30.91x. :sly:

No shortcuts.

are all those replays created from the drivers maximum effort? because, compared to my S16, that replay is pretty weak :sly: i got 7:01.3...and i think the replays should be kept in the normal 3rd person perspective

If I was trying all out - especially on a long track like the 'Ring - how much use would people who were outside gold or a Mission Hall 1st by the odd second find them? Hmm?

Obliterating gold time by 15 seconds wouldn't prove much use, because all they'd find out is that they're slower everywhere, rather than identifying sectors where time could be gained.

And as for "pretty weak", your time is only 1.1% quicker. Hey, round of frickin applause!
