Ongoing PSN outages

This is BS. Now GT5 is freezing during racing, making me turn my PS3 off the un-healthy way. Im am from this point on putting away my copy of this game that I paid $62 to get until it actually works. Sorry Yamauchi

Maybe another catastrophe has hit Japan. I'm thinking it's pretty obvious what's happening here.

1: Massive earthquake

2: Deviatating tsunami

3: Radiation leaking into the environment

4: Possibly the worst of these, Godzilla!

Yep, I'm calling it early. Earthquake, tsunami, radiation=Godzilla.

1-2 days? My girlfriend is going to freak when she finds out. The company she works for are meant to be submitting game data to Sony right at this minute and had to call an emergency meeting about it today. Oops!

But it is still a game through Sony, or MS, or whoever. It's like having a Ferrari and taking it to an Audi service center. You buy the Ferrari, they want you to only have it serviced through their dealers.

And your point is? You don't have to get anything serviced through the dealer if you don't want.

Give me a valid reason why LAN play isn't a reasonable thing to have a console, especially for games with a disc...

If you want to play offline, just disable the internet connection in the network settings, for the time being. GT5 loads a lot faster with it disabled, as well.

The plot thickens... Anon's website - anonnews.org, is down. Perhaps a retaliatory strike by Sony?

Yeah, stop them from um, playing, um, online stuff I guess.

More than likely it's crashed due to a overload of traffic from people wanting to find out if it was them who's causing PSN to be down

Probably nothing they could say that would satisfy everyone. Sony got pwnd lol.

Nothing anyone ever says can please everyone... ever. Never has, never will.

And Sony isn't the one getting "Pwnd" right now, we are.

I support Sony, they let me play games through their online system.

I play by the rules, I don't hack, I don't cheat, I don't take apart anyone's software or hardware and distribute its contents for others to use as they please. (which, as a side note, will get used mostly [almost entirely] for malicious intent.) If I did, and was caught, it would be my fault.

So because one guy did and was caught a bunch of haters are gonna spoil my (and millions of other's) fun. Oh that's fighting for our rights, that's sticking it to evil corporations, and that's definitely a good cause.

The more I research this, the more I find "Anonymous" at fault and in the wrong. I don't agree with everything Sony does, no. I don't agree with anything Anonymous does either. I agree with some of what they say, yes, but actions speak louder than words.

Now, if you'll pardon what can only be described as paranoid conspiracy thinking, I'll go on a little rant that I hope is as far from the truth as it is from anything logical. lol
Why Sony? How is Sony exhibiting such unfair and immoral policies that are intended to screw over their customers?
Free online service?
Game sharing? (not that I do)
Multiple accounts?
Not banning paying customers from services?

Let me explain a bit more.
Microsoft charges for Xbox live (I guess it's worth it, I do like it's features)
Microsoft does not let you gameshare.
Multiple accounts (even on the same console) must be paid for individually.
And you can easily get banned from XBL just by having a bunch of griefers report you for no reason. Even if this happened on PSN you're not even paying for the service.

How about the recent trend of releasing the ability to even play a game online at cost? (for used games, if you buy new you get a one-time code)
EA, Activision...

What about all the nickle-and-dime-ing that Nintendo does on peripherals?

How is Sony's business model so much worse than all of those listed above that this Anonymous group feels they are a demon and must be exorcised?

Well, two theories? One, Sony is the only one that really stood up against piracy and hacking and thus pissed off a bunch of nerds. Which would mean they're an extremely immature bunch who hate being told anything other than their own opinion, and throw a violent tantrum when that happens.

Two(and this is the silly part, so take it with a lot of salt), they actually don't hate Sony and are actually funded by and opposing company. But who could it be? What company would possibly stoop so low as to use it's financial might to try and undermine another competitor? Surely not the incorruptible Microsoft? They'd never do anything of the sort. :sly:

Then there's the third option that Anonymous is actually totally right and we're all legally entitled to hack and reverse-engineer to our hearts content, and that Sony alone is evil in nature and should die.

And a forth option would be that it's actually Sony attacking themselves in an attempt for publicity and sympathy. Since people (for who knows what reason) actually support the attackers, this would be a rather stupid move on Sony's part and is therefore even less likely than the last option.

Note: DA__dogg, this rant wasn't a reply to you. Only the first little bit was.

Also, I'm not a violent Sony/PS3 fanboy, I've owned, currently own, and will own consoles and games from all companies. I'm just a regular dude trying to play some games online.

Nah, the site is working fine: http://anonnews.org

There is also a link posted: PSN Brought Down By “An Outside Party”, But Anonymous Claims Innocence

"With the PlayStation Network currently suffering major outages, possibly due to a targeted attack from “an outside party” many thought that hacker collective Anonymous had once again set its sights on the network. However, according to the group they are not responsible.

Anonymous backed off the PSN earlier, claiming that hurting consumers was not their plan, but earlier today SCEE spoke out about the recent PSN problems:

As you are no doubt aware, the current emergency outage is continuing this afternoon and all Sony Online Network services remain unavailable. Our support teams are investigating the cause of the problem, including the possibility of targeted behaviour by an outside party. If the reported Network problems are indeed caused by such acts, we would like to once again thank our customers who have borne the brunt of the attack through interrupted service.

Over on the OpSony IRC – the main chat system used to plan and orchestrate attacks against Sony, the topic heading is “NO, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO PSN”, with users all claiming ignorance to the attack. Equally, no press releases have been released announcing a renewed DDoS assault.

A source close to the original attacks – which brought down the PSN and several Sony sites – did reveal to PlayStation LifeStyle that the new offensive could be being organised by individuals who disagreed with Anonymous’ soft stance towards PSN users, but could not elaborate on who they might be,

Has a new organisation formed that has absolutely no regard for consumers? PSLS will keep you updated as the downtime develops."

If yes, then i think we are fu**ed for more than the announced 2 days.

Sony just needs to reset their router and clear their system cache.

Saw it on an episode of South Park. Just unplug, and plug back in the damn thing so we can have our interwebs back.

(A bunch of stuff saying "Anonymous" is not responsible.)

Well if they aren't responsible, I hold no hostility toward them about the current outage.

The rest of what I said still stands.

And let's hope it's not a new group of furious bees who's hive was struck by Sony's stick. That would be even worse than the current group of half stupid people, a group of entirely stupid people. lol

Ah well...

So yea I would refer to the PS Blog for confirmation for when it is up and running.

I for one grew up without online gaming so this doesn't bother me too much. Just invite a friend over or so and play some video games old school way. Using multiple controllers on 1 system. Last night my friends and I had a 3v3 game of FIFA going. Was fun as hell. Today I played some more of the BFBC2 campaign. It seems to me people now days don't know what it was like to game 15 years ago on a console when there was no online.

Just be patient and it will be back in no time.

Oh yes I do.
I just don't have many friends around this area so nearly all my friends are online. Plus GT5 asks you to sign into PSN three times before you get to GTLife, which is annoying as hell.

I'll quit spamming now.

Too bad seasonals can't be downloaded and integrated into the game so we could at least do those when there is an outage.

Well, ofcourse they let me play thru their network, because we pay for the product, right? Whats the point selling people stuff, then dont let them use it?

Second, it isnt Sonys hardware, its my hardware since i have bought it. I can do what ever i want with it, and 100% leagal. What i can not do is use the modified ps3 in online play, because it is against the eula.

Second, Sony shouldnt be victimised, they spy on other corporations aswell, and they got sued by LG over some issiue. But hey, everything according to the law isnt "right". According to the Sharia law i can do stuff, that is illegal in the westerna world, but thats another story.

In the future Sony will probably take a fee for playing online, their online infrastructure has to upgrade, because they are stuck in the past = some one has to pay...

Sony can ban you as well, i have been reported and warned over some bs issue.

I wouldnt call these people nerds, the hackers are as far as i know educated enough to use their capabilities to do such things. As mentioned earlyer in this thread, you dont mess with certain people, that it, or suffer the consequences.
