Perfect Balance's cars | Small update| 05/03/14

Looks good đź‘Ť Needs moar paintjob though. The maroon is a bit depressing.

Also, is that some tyre stretch I see?

Yes, the paint color sucks, but I've never been one to get caught up on paint jobs before. When I get around to it, I'll do it, but it's not high up on my priority list.

Also, yes, that's a lot of tire stretch you see. I've got 205/45/17s on the front, which is entirely too narrow. I want a bit of stretch, but not that much. I just happened to get those tires for free off a friend, so I threw them on.

What size are your rear wheels and tires? The combo looks pretty good.

225/45/17.

I might even end up going down to a 215/45/17 in the rear.

The issue is that the real tire size I need is a 225/40/17, which pretty much doesn't exist. My options are to move up to a 235, but there are 3 problems with that. One, it's about a $30 jump in tire prices per tire. Two, I'll be running more of a stagger than I want, and since these things tend to understeer already, I don't want that, and three, I'll be doing some drifting with this car, and it's not currently capable of doing much with 235s.

With 215s, the tire size will look normal all around, and the car should be more balanced, and easier to slide, although at the cost of overall speed. But like someone once mentioned in another forum, for the money you save on not buying a 235, you can just buy a better 215.

And 215s are mad cheap.

I'm assuming these rims are x9 then.

I'll be planning on S.Drives for my wheels I think. Either 225/45 or 235/40, but they're only a dollar apart. I'll be deciding based on stretch I suppose. Yours looks nice but examples of 235s look nice too. Still stretched mildly, but it looks more like a performance application. Whatever I get it has to be the same all around because I'm stingy and like to rotate.

Also bro, you should get somebody to stitch that crack in your dash with some colorful threads. That would liven it up a bit.

I would probably go 235 in the rear if there was a suitable 225 size for the front, but like I said nobody makes a 225/40/17.

The cracks in the dash are meh, you can buy uncracked dashes for ~$100, and I figured this was a good enough excuse as any to "notgivafug" and cover it with stickers and whatever else I may want to do.

In the future I might take it out, fill in those cracks and flock the dash, but it's whatever for now.

So, while lowering the car more today, I noticed that my tie rods were pointing up at a pretty decent angle, when the car wasn't even on the ground, not to mention they had developed a lot of play within the last few months.

A ball joint only has so much travel before it starts to bind, and I was having pretty bad bumpsteer.

I looked into my options, and ended up purchasing a set of SPL tie rod ends, like these:

They correct for bumpsteer with the longer shanks by making the arm more parallel to the ground, and the heim joints will allow for more movement without binding.

When I get them in I'll do another alignment, but until then I might do another photoshoot with the new height.

Next on the list is some wheel bearings for the front. Ebay bearings are indeed crap. The fronts made noise out of the box, and they've already developed play.

After that is an exhaust, if I have the funds, and if not, I'll skip to the next thing after that, which is a limited slip differential. Drifting with the open diff has gotten pretty bad. I guess with the better tires, more weight is transfered, thus unloading the rear inside tire even more, and the inside wheel just wants to spin. Avoiding this required a very hard, fast entry with lots of clutch kicks. I don't like that.

You drifter people are crazy. I've never personally drifted my car on dry asphalt, much less done a burnout. Not once. Never really considered it because I'm not big into breaking stuff.

Although drifting is probably harder on clutches, axles, and transmissions, grip driving would probably result in more load actually being applied to everything else.

In any case, I haven't broken anything. Yet.

Sooo. I heard they were "beefy".

I was not expecting this massive thing.

Definitely built for some abuse. Should be installing it tomorrow with 300zx tie rods and some new steering rack boots, as mine are torn.

Finally got around to fixing my bumpsteer issue. Had too much spacers in tie rods, basically overdoing what I was trying to correct and ruining it.

It was a nice day outside Saturday and I cleaned and waxed the car and finally did another photoshoot, with the final ride height. (at least for now, might be doing something with the rear once I get the proper tire size on there.)

Nice. The colour doesn't look as bad with a bit of sunlight on it either.
Still not a very pretty color. I'm still not too sure where this car will end up, if it will continue to be a daily driver/weekend track car or if I will be buying something else to daily in the future. I'm not really sure, but I don't want to put a nice paint job on a car that will end up as a track beater, so I'm holding off on any kind of paintwork.

I have that same license plate frame...
I actually got it when I purchased my old Enkei RPF1s for my Civic when I still had it. Good selection of stuff there.

Is your car always depressed? It looks happier when its driving....
It's actually normally happy. The lights will go up by themselves, but not down, so the only time they're down is when I manually put them down.

So I randomly noticed that I had uploaded all of the unedited pics, instead of the edited ones. I've edited my prior post with the correct pics.

Needs a Masa hood and Type-X aero now.
Dunno about the hood, or at least not now, but the Type X aero is definitely on the list. Or at least the Version Select look-alike.

I'd like to make it work better before I do that though. I'm finally ok with how it looks for the meantime, which lets me focus on the under workings for a bit. Then, some more proper wheels and a few visual pieces.

It's not a "ricer" look at all. They were factory parts over in Japan. Same stuff you see in Gran Turismo.
