There's been a lot of controversy about this update, basically Sony covering there backsides legally, people getting upset about their rights.... Same old flaming and overeating about something they don't really understand

That's the new Terms of Service, not this update. Not really relevant is it? Everyone had to agree or stay offline a few days ago, I thought.

My PS3 is broken atm so I didn't have to do it, I was told it was introduced at the same time as the update... My bad :lol:
 
Update 3.73 is out now.
EDIT: downloaded and installed, no visible difference to me.

Yep, i'm downloading 4.0 right now currently. It's going mighty slow though. Can't imagine it's too big of an update with just Vita integrations.

yu just stole some gigabytes that i needed ... grrrrrr

also how do i delete..
the photo gallery thing and that damm netflix
(i already used my free trial )
now i want to get rid of them .....
how do ?? ( if possible )

I'm fairly certain that the update always includes complete new firmware instead of a patch so aren't they always the same size?

and I'm positive that it's not going to use any space on your HDD since the firmware is stored separately...
 
Can someone point me to the 4.00 download link? I keep getting pointed to 3.73 from sony's website and the update via internet keeps failing on my PS3.
 
Any other hidden functionality that has arrived with the 4.00 update? Its a big disappointment as many expected Sony to up their game with a total XMB overhaul and new features seeing as the 360's metro UI update is just around the corner.

I feel sometimes they just release an update to roll the number over so the jail breakers have to keep starting from scratch again. :lol:
 
Yes Sony. Thank you for putting Health and Safety warnings all over the damn place and for cluttering up the XMB even more than it was.
 
A lot of users complain about more frezes after updating their ps3, my shift 2 doesn't boot up anymore !!!! :grumpy:
 
Has anyone found a way to switch off the epilepsy warning? I've seen it once and I'm not epileptic so can I now get rid of it for good please.
 
I laughed at the epilepsy warning. Why would you be playing a gaming console if you have epilepsy that gets set off by playing gaming consoles is beyond me.
 
I tend to memorize navigating through menus; when that warning label was shown at start-up I totally missed it as my brain is trained to hit X as soon as I see anything pop up on boot (to get past the user selection screen).. so when it popped up, it disappeared right after. I did see "WARNING" and just that in the brief flash and was afraid my ps3 was starting to go bad and it was telling me something important. Scared me for a bit, but now that it just keeps showing up each time.....yeah... it's just extra button presses to me.

Do you not have your main user account setup to default on start up? If you want to do it you just hit Triangle while over the user you want it to be and I think it is one of the options. Been a few years since I set it up though so that might not be right.

Updated today. Now my ps3 wont read any discs. Anyone else have this problem?

Some people have had freezing issues and dead drives after an update has been a common occurrence because the updates sometimes fiddle with the firmware for the BR drive and can cause older lasers to burn out.

If its not reading you have to open the PS3 up and see if the laser lights at all when a disk is put in, if it doesn't you need a new laser module.
 
What i dont understand is i had a game in the drive before the update and the ps3 knew it was there(disc icon under games menu). Then when i tried to log in to psn i had to download the update (madatory). After the download i get no disc icon. How can the laser fail when ihavent done anything to the ps3 other than the update? Doesnt play blurays either which uses a different laser apparently. Twofailures within 20 minutes, just after an update is a bit suspect to me...thanks for the help anyway.
 
^Scrub that. Just opened up the ps3 and found a pepa pig ds game in the disc drive. offending item removed, kids taught the difference between sony and nintendo...., problem solved. lol.
