Playstation 3 System Update Thread

Yeah I've been using it a lot since update. I was having a lot of problems getting logged out of websights multiple times a day. After deleting cookies it's better, but not gone.

I've also had the browser freeze up the entire PS3 about 10 times already, they haven't fixed that part yet.

I have that logout problem now too. It's weird because it's only on Photobucket. It used to work but now it only logs me in for 1 page so I can't view any photos while logged in. Also, today I have probably been on the browser a total of 2 hours but it's frozen at-least 5 times.

If you open browser, go to a simple page like google, delete cache, delete cookies, delete search history, then close browser, restart PS3, you might get rid of problem. I did that and it fixed 99% of log out problems.
 
Just tried that, hopefully it will be better. I forgot I posted on here already, I was going to complain about the same thing. :lol:
 
It seems like the cookies are stored in a part of the memory that gets overwritten when you visit a website that uses a lot of RAM or page file memory or whatever.

If you stick to a few well known (to you) sites that don't have huge pages that take up lots of memory, you can go for weeks without the cookies getting wiped out (and getting logged out). If you explore the net at all and come across a website that hangs the PS3 browser or that has a huge page with a gazzillion pics or something, chances are you will be logged out of websites.

This is totally unacceptable and completely stupid, but it's the way it is.
 
System update 4.20 now out.

You can now copy and delete multiple save data's in one go and the system auto off is customizable.

The update was 99% useless. Having a few more options in shut off is all this did.

Yeah like most of them are, I think they roll the numbers over for lol's :ouch:

They need to sort out the browser and maybe bring Google TV to the system, seeing as they are allergic to providing new features which actually pertain to gaming.

What happened is that the PS3 is getting long in the tooth now and they basically don't care to improve it any more not that they were ever particularly big on adding massive new features like full game installs for example. Just look at the browser and that says it all!

Its funny because MS is still going full steam ahead with features on the Xbox like the Metro UI, proper Internet Explorer browser, voice recognition etc.

I think Sony are now just looking towards the PS4 and chalking up the PS3 as a bit of a stumble in history.
 
They sure don't seem like they are in a hurry (or in any sort of mindset) start hyping the PS4 either.

Its probably because they want to keep selling the PS3 as long as they possibly can to recoup the looses its development has caused, any hint of the PS4 by them and sales likely will slow dramatically. However, they don't seem to be putting as much effort as they should be on system side of things. They are making loads of effort on the games though.
 
I don't think they updated the browser much if at all. They need to keep the Java updated to continue to have it functioning properly.

Sony makes hardware, M$ makes software. M$ should be making software for Sony and get out of the hardware business, just like PC's.
 
I noticed too that messages without a subject will have the message displayed in place of the subject in the inbox. Take a look if my explanation doesn't make sense. Which it probably doesn't.

That's absolute genius right there. end the rivalries between the systems and we the consumers benefit greatly from an awesome system.

I also think that improvements are coming slow due to no one suggesting them on some sort of forum that Sony looks at, if one even exists...? They should really look here, we seem to find flaws everywhere :lol:

I get the feeling the PS4 is nearly here, sometime within 12 mths i think.

The PS3 has been dropping in price rather quickly i`ve noticed.

It looks like Sony is subtley dropping price to move units for a reason, and there hasn`t been any adverstising of new low price`s of the PS3, Sony want to quietly shift PS3`s. (on the other hand the PS3 has been around for a long time and economy of scale could be the cause)

Generally the subtle "runout pricing" that seems to be appararent really only means one of two things in the sales world.

1. Price has dropped to clear slow selling/excess/old stock, because.....
2. Newer model (PS4) is on it`s way

I do think a price drop will happen before Christmas. The 320 will be $200. Hard drives are dirt cheap. A 1tb can be had for a little over $100.
