I'm with you guys on regular 3D. I think it's OK on a tv but I've never bought into it and I buy into a lot of tech. It's different when used in VR though. It's absolutely amazing and changes the way game are played and perceived. I couldn't believe how great the first rift worked and it is super low res. I can't wait until my DK2 shows up. My triple screens will be up for sale as soon as it gets here.

It also says on the oculus site that the rift creates a stereoscopic 3D image beyond what a normal tv can do. I'm still not sure though if the rifts software just separates the 2 images itself it the game has to be made to work on the rift.

It's two separate images for VR, and with the way the eyes process imagery, it brings the two separate images together and the eyes naturally create the depth for what you see.

Morpheus would work the same way.

I know it's two seperate images but how is it getting those images. Is it taking the normal 3D image the game produces and separating it or is it something that needs to be put into the game just to run in rift. I know rift works with many games that do not support it.

The B̶e̶s̶t̶ only racing game on the PS4 at the moment is NFS Rivals.

The Crew, Project CARS and DriveClub are set to release this year. F1 2014 is unconfirmed, but very likely to make a debut soon.

It seems to me that DriveClub is a very cool concept, the question is, will it even be close in terms of simulation to the best there is?!
The Crew seems to be a little meh, what do you think?
Project CARS I haven't actually read about.

DriveClub will not be a sim, no.

As for Project CARS - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/board/project-cars/
I think a number of people are possibly going to be disappointed in the sim aspect. I'm guessing from some of your posts that you have played this in beta. I remain unconvinced though until I've tried it myself on the PS4.

I guess there will be no problem using my T500RS with the PS4 and NFS Rival?
Maybe, but why would you unless I'm missing something? It is still an arcade game.

Yes I've been in the pre-alpha testing of pCARS since 2012. It is very much a sim in my experience. Here is a video of professional race driver Rene Rast playing it:

Yes, I've seen similar vids, which have all been on a PC. My point though was in how far that will be true on the PS4? As far as I'm aware, there is no beta for the console yet. Don't misundertand what I'm saying here, I do think it looks exceptionally good - I just wonder how far the PS4 version can be taken as opposed to the PC release, it is after all, still a console, despite its big jump forward in many areas.

Vorpx takes data from one image and reconstructs it for the other eye so you can have many old games work. It injects and forces the render.

The other way for supported or accessible games is to render from different camares in the game at the same time.

I think pCARS will be most realistic console racing sim released when it comes out (November 2014), remains to be seen though what PD have up their sleeves.

Pd might be able to compete on physics and the 'driving simulator' but in terms of a racing simulator I fail to see how they'll come close. The direction pCARS has gone in, focusing on racing, just doesn't seem to be PDs goal.

Well of course I can only tell you what SMS tell us but as far as that goes we're told the PS4 and XBone versions will be identical to the PC version in terms of gameplay/physics and the core of the game, the only difference will be slightly scaled back visuals. Which makes sense really, the only part of the new consoles really different to a modern PC is in the graphics. They have a great amount of RAM and a good processor which they get more out of thanks to optimisation.

We're also told all versions are 'generated' at once, from the same core code, to create 5 different builds at once. Again, we can only go on their word for now but I have full trust in them to date.

Physics is side I am interested to see how well they will be able to compete, I think racing is one of the goals PD are targetting going by direction in GT6, yet to see the Community features and new AI system they have said they are working on but it is good to see they know what people want even if it is not released to public yet. Can't wait to see what they can do with PS4, looking back at a trailer 4 years ago, I can imagine it will be best looking racing game ever created if they target 1080p 60FPS.

Will be awesome to have two good racing games on PlayStation platform. PS4 GPU is as good as the best single AMD GPU on PC (R9 290X) regarding number of Asynchronous Compute Engines and also having AMD TrueAudio, I think PD will be able to use their techniques learnt in getting most of Cell CPU to utilise such part of the GPU quite well. CPU is slow though but gives hope of next portable console being similar speed to PS4 CPU, if not a lot faster.

This isn't the topic for it but what exactly about GT6 makes you think they're targeting racing as a direction? There is no racing, in terms of being anything like reality, in GT6. The older games did it better, so to me that says they're going further away.

Does anyone here have problems watching game previews on the Playstation Store? They just don't load all the way up before starting, is there anything i can do to fix that?

A bit dissapointing that it only dims a little though. With the three available settings I would have thought the lowest setting would be lower than it is.

The rest of the update is all meh to me also. Sure some will get some use out of it though so at least it's progress.

Personally I would like to see a YouTube app, dlna and the auto download/update in standby mode to actually work.

I saw some video play throughs of MLB 14 PS4 and without a doubt it has the most amazing looking crowds I have ever seen in a game. Seriously the dev's outdid themselves making them look and act realistic. Some of the dev's and families are actually in the crowds!

I demand that all sports games have these crowds, NOW!

Do you want to know the reason why Sony is so insistent on having the light bar that bright? If you don't, just don't click on the spoiler...

According to Tech Radar, Sony was so insistent on having the light that bright on the controller was because of Project Morpheus, the VR headset that Sony is developing. Here is SCEE Senior Designer Jed Ashforth to explain the development process.

“The tracking light… it was our department that said we need that on,” said Ashforth. “It was for tracking for VR, and when all these things were coming out six months ago and everyone was going ‘it’s reflecting in my TV,’ we were going ‘oh no’ because we couldn’t tell anyone what it was for.”

Now you know the rest of the story.

especially the ability to lower the brightness of the DS4 light bar 👍 Hopefully, the battery life increase a little.

Sadly, it hasn't had much of an effect. Certainly not a noticeable one, anyway. Bought a 4m cable yesterday. On the bright side (no pun intended), the light no longer reflects on my tv screen.

Personally I would like to see a YouTube app

A Youtube app would be nice (as would a Hulu Japan app *hint hint*), but it's really up to youtube. Hopefully they do a better job than they did with the PS3 app. You can watch it in the browser. Just type in the regular youtube url and add "/tv" at the end. You can log in with your account and pair a phone/device to make searching easier. Unfortunately, certain videos will not be available as the uploaders haven't deemed us "tv peasants" worthy of watching them.

Lastly, want to watch a long video but don't want to drain the controller battery? You could navigate through the menu to turn the controller off as normal, or you could press and hold the PS button for 10 seconds.

Now you know the rest of the story.

Not trying to be funny, but that had been obvious for a long time. Nevertheless, thanks for posting the article.

Here's a complete list of the features that can be found in the firmware update 1.70: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/461248/ps4-update-17-official-features-list-confirmed/

Some neat little additions in there, especially the ability to lower the brightness of the DS4 light bar 👍 Hopefully, the battery life increase a little.

Is it that bad? If I still have time Thursday a friend and I are going to get us some PS4 love. We were discussing, get a second controller or a pretty long cable. Obviously we both thought of getting the extra controller because you know, that one time a year, a friend is coming over and you can play co-op... but then you can't....

My PS3 controllers never let me down, always had the feeling I had enough time on 1 charge. Don't know how many hours but I think I could play at least 12 hours non stop. Or do you have a better idea, buy ... instead of the controller?

Thanks 👍

I went the cable route. I will get another controller eventually, but the cables are cheap. You can also charge the controller when the console is on standby. Not really an option for me, as my wife has a habit of unplugging everything, and it's not a good idea to unplug a ps4 when it's on standby.

As for the DS3, I owned a few and would actually estimate the battery life to be around 25-30 hours.

I wonder what changes F1 controller revision of DS4 will have impact on battery life. All I know is that it has changed battery supply voltage, hopefully battery capacity is same as the DS3. Surprised I haven't seen gaming media mention it yet as I saw it a few weeeks back and thought I will mention it as there is discussion about controller.

Are you sure it wasn't a hoax? I've heard nothing about it, and I browse neogaf on the train to work... Just seems like the kind of thing someone would mention there.

No it is on FCC, I check it now and again to see if there is new PS3 model coming out, another thing gaming media / forums have yet to report is the new PS3 model.
