that sounds pretty efficient to me compared to launching GT6 on PS4 with an install base of zero to start with.
I really don't think the "0 install base" factor is THE issue. Every other developer making PS4 games are making them for a 0 install base. And darn few games have the market draw of Gran Turismo, and believe me, GT6 on PS4 has the potential to double PS4 sales, or more. Rather, I do think it's part of the decision. First, to provide a large infusion of instant cash for SONY, who likely need it after funding the production of the new system. Plus, it does give breathing room to racers like Drive Club and Project CARS, as well as whatever is looming for PS4 next year. But at the same time, don't tell me they aren't dreading GT6 releasing this year, even on PS3.
Anyway, to the topic. I'm happy now.
At first, I was disappointed. Earth, me, and a number of others have waxed endlessly here on how much better a GT6 on PS4 would have been. And still would be. All that power available to Kaz and the team makes my head swim from the potential.
But all it took was the Silverstone event to make me drop all my misgivings. When you have seasoned racing journalists remarking on how the feel and handling of the cars is up there with the best PC sims like GTR 2, I could hardly contain my excitement. When I saw the Bilstein Audi R8 video, it made me giddy. It almost makes my Nordshleife replays look boring. We just getting juicy tidbits from off the cream, and every new tidbit is like I'm dreaming of the ideal Gran Turismo - on PS3, yes, but come on! Saidur Ali posted a link to
this article:
The car was rigged so that performance data could be captured during the race and tested on Gran Turismo 6's engine in real-time, letting developers fine-tune the handling and performance of the car to get it as realistic as possible. They could also do things the other way around, simulating "changes in vehicle dynamics due to suspension and aerodynamics" in the game, then if they worked, making the same changes to the actual car.
This is ridiculous! Polyphony Digital really are the gaming wizards of our age.
I keep reminding myself that we still know very little about GT6! Oh my gosh, the wait, the wait... but it's going to be more than worth it.
the GT6 trailer looked so much more beautiful compared to the FM5 trailer. It shows how much potential GT has; a previous-gen console game looking better than a next-gen console game.
Surprisingly, I agree with you. I still can't get over that Bilstein video. Christmas is going to take a small eternity to get here... heck, so will July! I can hardly wait for that demo! Gotta go race my vacuum cleaners!
