I voted yes only because I could still drive cars like peugeot 106,205... If they had decided to not include any standard cars, this kind of cars wouldn't be in GT6 (I'm sure they don't want to premiumized this kind of car).

Right and left wheeler?

If and when they're updated to premium models each can be listed as a trim/drive option in the showroom but they shouldn't be counted as different cars. Changing a badge and the drive side doesn't make a new unique car but PD currently pretend it does, creating an artificial number of cars.

I don't know why i'm saying this though, we know what PD will do. Maybe once we get to "1600 cars" we'll have 700 unique cars.

I have to say I am in two minds about this, so I'll do my best to explain.
We have a fair amount of the premium spec cars in GT5, and I do spend most of my time racing in them, because I really enjoy racing in cockpit view. On top of this, pictures for replays look grand with premium cars.
However, some of my favourite cars are standard cars and I think that while they are lacking in the graphics, they really do still add to the game.

BUT I recently bought a standard car (I cannot recall which one it was) and upon examining it I was appalled at its quality. I have never seen a car so badly made in a PS3 game every. It was really really bad! And this made me think: if such cars are to be present in GT6, will they add to the game? My answer to that was no. However I know the standards will be touched up, but still. Even to have ONE car of that terrible quality will drag the game down.

Happy with standards in GT5? Yes.
Happy with them in GT6? All in all, I have to say no. BUT I will reserve final judgement when I have seen the standards for myself.

Simple answer: Nope.

Even if they are updating (some) of the exteriors to be less terrible - actually, that almost disappoints me more, because wasting any amount of time on last-gen, obsolete modelling methods is time that could be spent better doing many other things.

It's going to be hard enough showing the game off in the face of the next-gen racing games that will be arriving around the same time (and yes, despite whatever sort of reasons people will put forth about how "unfair" that will be, it will happen). Showing off a game that will still be predominantly comprised of cars that were modeled a decade ago? I wouldn't be surprised if they're swept under the rug until right before release, just like GT5.

I'm happy because some of the cars I like will make a comeback, but I'm NOT happy that some of the cars that absolutely have to be scrapped will STILL be here... 👎 the duplicated Skylines, Miatas, NSX's, renamed Opel/Vauxhall cars...

:yuck:

This is what bugs me the most... it's pathetic... plain pathetic... for the 2nd game in a row were are going to have a game composed of modeled cars from 2004/5...

That's why I consider PD to be a mediocre game-producer right now...

It is true that there are cars they could ditch because they are so close to the same as others if not the same but then again they could make one of these premium and the others would fall in line as well giving them 5 premiums for the cost of one and boosting the premium count while reducing the standard count and keeping the overall count.

Speaking of standard MX-5s. If we can do this(at least low ride height and drive with down option[i understand this is not the wish thread or customisation thread, just helping those to see standards wouldn't be all that bad)] and to other standard cars I'd say all is forgiven.

That reminds me: considering they're modeled with their tops down in Photo Travel, it's utterly bizarre to me that we can't choose the option for racing. Especially taking into consideration it was an option for plenty of the Standards in GT4 of you didn't mind racing one other car.

Oh for sure. I bet when the modeller looked at his email and saw he had to do 40 MX5 interiors he said, "____ THAT!"

Aww. Anyone else want to vote and give their reasons towards standard cars? Come on theres gotta be more in this forum. :)

Seeing as to how the anti-standard contingent is in the distinct minority, I would say the burden is on them to sway the opinions of the rest of us.

Are you looking at the same poll as the rest of us?

100 Happy
114 Unhappy
84 Don't care

Distinct minority? Seems like about a third each.

Yes, but that's more than 60% who aren't bothered by them.

Anyway, these are typical Standard cars in GT5 now - and the only editing was to shrink them down a bit:

I think they look awesome now, and they will look better in GT6. I don't know what PD is doing, but better than this works for me.

"Shrinking them down" is the perfect way to hide their imperfections.
That is true, it's the resolution of textures which gives it away more than anything.

The bad ones are awful, the good standard cars are okay. It won't bother me particularly as long as the physics are a lot better.

Dude. The pics are still 1280x720, and I don't want them to go away because of bandwidth limits. If you still can't see any imperfections, you need a seeing eye mouse. ;)

The embeded pics are only 800 × 533, I have to look at them on your photobucket site for full size. Stryker99 :)

This is a 720 shot (your pic, quote if you want the link):

Enlarge both and you'll see the difference, here's the reference for comparison:

Exactly, they're not 720p embedded, they're barely above SD resolution. Make them bigger, make them the same size as they are in game and the imperfections are easy to see.

It's no good saying they look fine at low resolution, if I played the game at low resolution it wouldn't be an issue.

I post them, hang on...

All pics in real 720 res, click enlarge to see them!

Right, and now all the problems are easy to see.

Jaggy, drawn on window edges side and back, drawn on panel gaps, jaggy wheelarches. I'm not going to go through all of them but most of them are the same issues.

184 are happy or don't care.
The burden is on the 114 who are arguing for change to convince the majority of the rest of us.

I thought many standards looked half decent if you tweaked the pictures a bit. Not great mind you, but passable.

Or you could say 198 wouldn't miss them if they were gone. Glass half empty or half full?

For me, standards cripple a lot of the things that I think make GT special. If I want great driving physics, I go elsewhere. If I want stunning graphics, or to see the interiors of special cars I might not otherwise be able to see, or to play in photomode, standards just get in the way of that.

What's more, I think standards are a crutch. As long as they're acceptable, there's not as much pressure to produce premiums. Were standards not available, PD would have likely decided that having a 200 car game was not acceptable. Premiums would have been modelled faster at a lower (some might say more reasonable) quality. Given that they're largely overkill at full poly count for PS3 nobody would have noticed the difference, but we'd have more premiums.

But hey, that's a lot of what ifs and that's just me. For now, they're OK but really not what I would expect from a AAA first party game. If they're still there on PS4, I hope we don't have to go through this again with people making excuses, because that would be unbelievable.

Its just ridiculous that we have over 800 poor quality cars in GT5-6 a small revamp is not enough. They should take their time and hand-pick some standards and delete them period.

If they are released a multi-platform game, then what? Same amount of cars? Same standards and premiums? Slight revamp of graphics? There is no point of a PS4 version if there is no big jump, especially coming from a PS3 version.

The more the merrier. The standard cars are giving me the most replay value right now in GT5. When I first played the game, I refused to drive anything but the premiums mostly because they were new and I drive with the interior view, but the entire past year I have been enjoying racing standards and I'm happy that they will carry over into GT6.

Everyone always complains about how developers should give game players the most options possible and here it is. We have standard cars; lots of them. Use them or ignore them.

Nah, you couldn't say that, because I'd be changing my 'don't care' to 'happy'.

I'm not 'going through' anything by having standards in the game. I could NOT care LESS about cockpit views OR photo mode. I use standards almost exclusively.

Edit: It's now 199-119 against change, which shows a trend toward 'no change' (pick up of 15 no-change v. 5 change)
